The menu is small, but so is the restaurant! The hamburgers are real burgers, and not the flat gray things that are available elsewhere. Our food did take a bit to arrive, but we came just under the wire at closing, at a very slow time of the year and week. We did not have a problem with that, as we knew that they were actually cooking our food, and not just opening a box and warming something up.

The fries were excellent as well. And they were also not out of the freezer! Fresh cut fries are the best.

Recently reopened under new management. Rough on the details but looks like they are headed in the right direction.

By the end of the third week of our road trip, we were tired of the laminated-menu places and were looking for some local home cooking. We found what we wanted at the All Aboard Cafe. (I think they serve dinner only on Thursday - Sunday nights, so call before you go.)
It is located in a bed and breakfast a block or so off the main street. Our party of eight was seated in our own cozy room off the main part of the restaurant.

The menu changes every week, except for the "stuffed" hamburgers (various fillings between two patties of meat) and the salad bar. The night we were there they were serving a basque menu. I had a hard time deciding between the roasted lamb and the basque chicken, but the chicken won out. It was delicious; a perfectly cooked breast with a very tasty sauce made from red peppers, onions, some tangy sausage, and other yummy seasonings. The teen-age girls in the group were very happy with the all-you-can-eat salad bar; my daughter ordered a well-seasoned and prepared steak; and the balance of the table decided on the hamburgers. Everything was delicious and the servings were large, so that I had half of a chicken breast to take in our cooler and slice for sandwiches the next day. The service was a little out of sync, with each person's courses arriving at different times, but that was not a big problem.

Overall, this restaurant was a big hit and one of our favorites from our 3-week trip. Highly recommended!

If you're down in Ely, Nevada to ride the train (or for any other reason) and you want a bite to eat, visit the All Aboard Cafe and Inn. I was there to volunteer at the NNRY and had several absolutely delicious breakfasts in the cafe part, served piping hot fresh from the kitchen (the diced potatoes were a personal favourite). The staff/co-owners are friendly and accommodating, and the prices are very reasonable (in my opinion). I didn't stay in the bed & breakfast part as I had made other living arrangements prior to my trip, but if the dining room is any indication, they are likely beautifully done and very comfortable. They are located on 11th St., about half a block away from the East Ely train depot.
