This resort has a lot of going for it but a ways to go to get to 4 or 5 star as they wish. We were in one of the remodeled units. The shower is the smallest I've ever been in. The shower head was partly clogged. The facet at one sink kept turning around & around.
Thepans in the kitchen were not tuflon coated so the food stuck and burned. The fireplace can be seen from both the master bedroom & the living room. Sounds good except if you are sharing the unit with others. You better make sure they are not in the livingroom while you are getting dressed in the bedroom.
It was nicely furnished & comfortable. The Hot Spring pool are wonderful. The restraurant was very warm each time we were there.

Spent one week at the resort and we had a great time. We traded a week at another resort for the stay, so our stay was in a 1Bdrm time share unit. Unit was clean and had the usual amenities. Everything worked OK.

The main hotel building visitors did not fare as well. The AC unit had gone out and it got a little toasty during the day for them. They got it repaired the day we were leaving.

My wife enjoyed the hot mineral baths in the AM & PM. Time share owners got to use the baths free, but other visitors had to pay extra for the use of the baths. I enjoyed the baths as well, but did not use every day.

The resort had a nice restaurant that we took advantage of numerous times. Food/service was excellent and would recommend it. They served breakfast, lunch & dinner.

The resort is a little remote, but we enjoyed life off the beaten path. You are in cattle/ranch country. Minden/Gardnerville is about 5-6 miles away. South Lake Tahoe is about 30 minutes away via Kingsbury Grade. Pretty scenic drive for all to enjoy.

Overall we had a great time and we will return.

We did a timeshare swap and boy are we glad we did - David Walley's is an amazing, beautiful place. It truly is in the middle of nowhere, but there is nothing like being surrounded by mountains, fields, rivers and complete quiet and relaxation.

Our rooms were beyond what we expected (especially the Master bath) and we were in the area that had yet to be updated since the take over - still nothing to complain about!

The resort grounds are stunning, pools are great and although the pipes burst (twice) for the hot springs and we couldn't access for several days (we checked in Sat. night at midnight) and it was up and working on Wed. BUT...that did not bother us at all - it was warm and sunny the whole time there and the kids enjoyed the pools more then anything!

Admittedly, our teen boys were a tad bored, but we would go into Genoa (less then a mile or so away) but it only has about 200 people, Carson City, Virginia City (fun but touristy), Minden and Gardenville (5 miles or so for groceries etc.) and over 207 to Tahoe and Stateline. We still kept busy!

Thanks David Walley - Ideal, relaxing vacation!!!!

After reading all the negative reviews, I reluctantly traded our timeshare for this spa resort. As we drove up, the entrance and grounds were inviting. It was peaceful, and the front desk staff was very nice. Our one bedroom condo was in the Canyon Bldg and although not a remodeled unit, was actually very nice and clean. It had a great view of the valley and part of the pool. We were on the 3rd floor. We were there for a week, and sorry to say, it all went by too quickly.

The condo was equipped with blender, toaster, microwave, coffee maker, pots and pans, utensils, refrigerator, washer and dryer (yes, inside the unit!), trashbags, dishwashing soap, sponge, 2 rolls of toilet paper, two boxes of facial tissue, 1 roll of paper towel, ironing board and iron, and dishes. Two TVs are not flat - screen, only in remodeled units. No granite countertops, but the tile countertops worked just fine - no cracks. Just overlook the tired looking silk arrangements on the tables, otherwise, the unit was rather tastefully done. Large jacuzzi tub and shower in the bathroom.

The new owners are on top of things. For instance, there weren't any towels poolside, so I called and within 5 minutes, housekeeping was there with towels. One day our front door wouldn't open, and within 10 minutes maintenance was there to fix the problem. Other than that, things went very smoothly. The pools and tubs were clean and the temperature constantly monitored. I would say that the shower and changing rooms at the spa building could definitely use an upgrade, but for now, it is adequate.

We have stayed in five star resorts and hotels in many places, so we know what we can put up with, but since my husband's business is on a roller coaster ride right now, we decided to stay closer to home (home is San Francisco). We figured if we were dissatified with the place, there's always someplace we can stay in South Lake Tahoe that would be better. Luckily, that didn't happen.

RECOMMENDATIONS: 1) If travelling with the family, bring DVDs from home, as their DVD library ($2 rental) is not extensive. 2) The 1862 Restaurant is great for breakfast and lunch. Dinner can be touch and go - they were understaffed when we went and it did not go smoothly, especially for the price points they were asking. 3) My husband's massage was great and comparable prices to other spas. 4) Spa tubs/pool over the bigger pool - better surroundings, some shade. Big pool is better for children, I think. 5) Look for deer on the grounds - we spotted two on separate days. 6) Location is rather central to local attractions and Lake Tahoe is only 20 minutes away. 7) Costco, Target, Safeway and Galaxy movie theaters, are all on the way to Carson City (downtown). 8) Must dine at Buona Sera restaurant in Minden (10 minutes away) - Amazing! 9) Don't bother bringing the tennis rackets until they renovate the court - there are courts close by if you have to. 10) At Tahoe, rent bikes at Anderson's by Camp Richardson - Fabulous paved bike trail.

Overall, a great place to stay and play. We really enjoyed our views and the serenity of the place.

We just returned from a weekend at David Walley's in Genoa. I had read many of the comments and some of them weren't good at all. I will admit this did concern me but I decided to keep an open mind and hope for the best. Everything was fantastic! David Walley's is under new management and they are doing a wonderful job at getting the resort to a high class level. We were always greeted by friendly staff, our 2 bedroom/2 bath condo was so nice and really large, and even the timeshare presentation went smoothly. It wasn't a hard sale and we were done in 75 minutes which is almost a record! We went with another couple and their 5 year old son and we have a four year old son. We were very happy to see this resort really caters to families. Everybody had a wonderful time! Our room was perfect with a large kitchen, dining room, living room and both bedrooms were big with king size beds. Our kitchen didn't have granite like the model we saw with the timeshare presentation, but it was still really nice. We were on the 3rd floor and had a huge balcony with comfy chairs to enjoy the view. The decorations were beautiful and the master bathroom had a HUGE sunk-in jetted tub! The only thing that was a bummer was the beds were pretty firm. We like softer beds so it took us a while to get comfortable. I could see how a family could easily stay here for an extended weekend or a week and be completely comfortable. The nice thing about Genoa is you can stay at David Walley's and be centralized to other areas. This resort can be your jumping off point to Reno, Carson City, Lake Tahoe and even Eldorado County wineries. Genoa is such a beautiful area with lush green fields, trees, and beautiful mountains.

We ate at the on site restaurant for dinner as we had a $50 coupon for food. We did have to wait a really long time to be seated which was rough on our little ones. We made reservations for 8:30 p.m. as that was their very last reservation time slot available. When we arrived we were told it was going to be another 20 minutes but it ended up being 80 minutes before we sat down. So that put us at 9:40 p.m. before we even sat down. I guess that night all the guests were really chatty and didn't want to give up their tables. The restaurant bent over backwards for us and even comped a lot of our meal because we had to wait so long. We had a fantastic waiter who took great care of us. And of course the food was amazing! We actually had rattle snake, python and wild bore. That was quite the experience. There are high priced items on the menu but you can also get by pretty reasonably if you watch what you are ordering. All in all it was a fantastic experience even if we didn't eat until 10:30 p.m. and our kids fell asleep before their dinners arrived.

We enjoyed the hot tubs and pool. The pool was a nice 83 degrees and the mineral tubs went from 97 to 106 degrees. The mineral pool that was 97 was heavenly...We never tried the hotter tubs as they were too hot for our kids.

David Walley's is under new management and they have a great plan in place about the upgrades they will be making to the resort over the next few years. The timeshare presentation was actually quite informative and being timeshare owners already we are definitely considering purchasing into Walley's in the next few years. It's a great program with a lot of benefits.

I would highly recommend this resort to anybody!

My husband and I stayed here for one week starting on Memorial Day Weekend. We traded in with a timeshare and could not have been more pleased. The grounds were clean and neat with the exception of the mineral tub area which is currently undergoing upgrading. The outside trim had been scraped ready for new paint and new tiles were being installed while we were there. Some of the planned improvements may be annoying during the summer of 2011. For example we heard they were going to put in new hot tubs which will mean jack-hammering to remove the old tubs.
We stayed in a 2 bedroom unit that had been remodeled. The beds were very firm (almost too firm). The kitchen was small but nicely functional. It featured new granite counters. The room itself was clean with new furniture.
What truly won us over were the mineral tubs. There were about 6 tubs and one larger pool which they kept at various temperatures. We used them daily and loved the mineral water experience. The mineral tubs are included free with timeshare exchanges, but not if you rent in with any service other than directly with David Walley resort. Three were some people who were quite upset with this policy.
WIFI cost extra in the rooms but is free in the lobby. There are also 3 or 4 computers available for complimentary use.
I recommend David Walley resort if you like:
Golf, beautiful nature hikes, wonderful views, casinos, exploring little historic towns and museums, and a quiet get-away spot. Costco, Walmart, Target, restaurants, casinos, etc are about 10-15 minutes away. We did not try the restaurant at 1864 Walleys but heard it was good. Too pricey for us.

We look forward to our next trip here in a year or two.

I don't know about the dramas involved regarding staying overnight as we came to use the pools and for us, it ticked all the boxes. The pools were clean and the staff were pleasant.
