“Strange Policies for a Resort”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 July 2013

Firstly I want to say the hotel is beautiful, well kept with excellent service and of course all the wonderful Westin amenities.
So why give this resort a two?
If you are going to charge me $25 a day resort fee, then I expect full use of the resort. Having a pool area and slide that opens at 8:00 am and closes at 6:00 pm does not cut it. Families consider this if you like to do other activities through the day and round out your day relaxing by the pool. Or are you an early riser like myself who likes to sneak in a quick, quiet swim before the rest of the family awakes? Can't do that here.
Also for my $25 I expect the kayaks that you provide as part of this fee to be in good condition. 90% of these had broken seats, straps missing etc.
The lobby area bar was closed through the day as well...sometimes I just like to read a paper and have a drink and people watch.
This is a beautiful remote hotel and could be a perfect place to unwind, if you are willing to do it on their schedule.

We greatly appreciate that you’ve shared your perspective regarding our resort fee. I'd like to extend my apologies for any inconveniences that you experienced while with us. We always want our guests to receive the most out of their visit. After reading your review, it seems we may have missed the mark. It is reviews such as yours that allow us the opportunity to improve for our future guests. Thank you for taking time to address the specific areas that fell short of your expectations. Please keep in mind htat our pools are open from 8:00am-8:00pm. We can understand your frustration if our kayaks were not in the best condition. I have passed your review along to the appropriate departments so we can further look into this concern and rectify the situation. Thank you for your review and as we continue to improve the quality of our services, we hope to welcome you back again.

This property is really gorgeous. We went in the summertime when the weather was 110+ degrees. The hotel lacks enough eating choices. You really only have their restaurants, a little cafe and room service. It's very quiet so it can be good in some aspects but it can also give you a slight ghost town feel as well. I enjoyed being away from the crowded bustling strip for the most part since we could still dive there but when you wake up first thing in the morning and want to find some good brunch, it's a little hard to get that here. The check-in, bell, concierge, maid, and staff at the water sports were friendly. The only complaint was the staff at the life vest pick up were difficult.

The best things about this place are the ease from the lobby to the rooms (unlike Las Vegas Strip hotels where you often times have to go through a bunch of casino or lobby to get to your car, this place is quick and easy. The property is beautiful with a lovely view of the lake. It is dog friendly. With all the water sports and evening activities, this place seems very family friendly. We plan to return with children in the future.

Room Tip: Facing the Lake.

We stayed here with another couple over the fourth of July and it is a great resort! A little diamond in the desert. The food, staff, service, rooms were all great. We only have 2 complaints though. The lack of umbrellas at the adult pool is highly ridiculous for a resort of this quality. Only 7 umbrellas for umpteen chairs! and over the 4th of July no less, and the temperature was 110! Poor planning. The other complaint is that there are too many kids in the adult/relaxation pool. I am sure that a lot of people don't know that it is an adult/relaxation pool but there is a security guard at the gate that could gently inform them. The kids pool is great, they should go there. Other than that we loved our stay and will definitely be back.

Thank you for spending the Fourth of July holiday with us at The Westin Lake Las Vegas Resort & Spa. We can't wait to inform our staff that you have described our property as a diamond in the desert. What a wonderful compliment! Regarding our pool area, we’ve taken good note of your concern regarding the number of umbrellas that were available and truly regret any inconveniences. Furthermore, we apologize if any disturbances prevented you from receiving the relaxing, poolside experience you deserve. We can understand your frustration and will pass your review along to our staff. Thank you for your review and we look forward to your return visit.

If you are coming to Las Vegas with children, there is no better place to stay! This is a beautiful location away from all the craziness of the Strip. The hotel provides a shuttle to the Strip if you would like to go there and there is a kids club that can watch and entertain your children. The hotel features two pools, an upper level one which is more for adults since the lower level one has a slide for the kids. There is also a small beach with complimentary peddle boat and kayak rentals. There are fire pits and outdoor fireplaces. Even if you are not staying here with children, this is still a great place to stay. Service was very good. Everything went smoothly during my visit. The other resort at Lake Las Vegas, now the Hilton but originally the Ritz, does offer some advantages if you are not traveling with children. The rooms are nicer, larger, offer very nice bathrooms with separate soaking tub and big shower. The spa is also larger at the Hilton and the gym is beautiful with an incredible view. The bathrooms at the Westin are basic but comfortable. The gym is adequate. The Westin is not accessible walking to the Village so that is another advantage that the Hilton offers. Both properties are extremely beautiful but the Westin offers superior service. You will definitely be pleased with the Westin, especially with children.

Excellent choice for a 2 night stay if you can get the $99 special that includes a wonderful breakfast for 2 and 2 drinks for each night. This is a up scale resort that you will want to return to often. I found this deal on TravelZoo and loved every moment of the stay. This hotel is done in the moroccan theme and really does take your breath away from the moment you walk through the doors until you leave. Prepare to be pampered and waited on hand and foot. The view goes on and on down the side of the mountain and looking at the lights of Las Vegas.

We decided on the resort because of the location away from the strip (wanted to get away from the crowd etc). We did not experience any of the negative issues like others experienced at the hotel. The room was clean and very roomy for us and our little one. Great view of the lake...next time I will request a room with juliette balcony. Like others, the resort is very beautiful hotel!!! The pool area had two separate pools: adults and kids. Note: pool during non Saturday/Sunday was quiet and had no problem with lounge chairs with shade. If you use the pool on Saturday get there early to get few of the lounge chairs with umbrellas or tree shades. We also enjoyed the paddle boat ride out to the lake.
Recommend the Marssa restaurant (Japanese/Asian). Loved the presentation of the food and excellent taste.... I used the fitness center and the equipment was clean (small center).
Only disappoint with room was they did not stock the free Krug coffees (had to call front desk and they delivered in 30 minutes).

About 30 minutes drive to the Strip and I recommend the drive into the Lake Mead National Park on LakeShore Rd. ($10 fee good for 7 days). Couple of scenic lookout points.

Room Tip: recommend the Lake view rooms and request Juliette balcony.

Was a perfect stay in every respect. Staff could not be any more helpful than they were, from Jennifer at the front desk, to Renee, and Chris our waiters at Rick's Cafe. Even the room maid pointed out she had not forgotten us in make up our room and it would be next. Beautiful property in Moroccan style archtecture. Dreaming evening with cocktails and Middle East Hors d'oeuvre on the patio from Arabesque Lounge. Hated to leave and return to the real world of being un-pampered.

Room Tip: Ask for high floors away from the lobby and the patio noise. Take advantage of all the amenities th...
