“More Casino than hotel?”
Reviewed 4 August 2014 via mobile

Nice rooms, nice enough pool with cabanas you can rent for 100$/day (the music is a little loud - this is moustly a family hotel in my opinion), but the receptionists must try a little bit harder! Almost impossible to get a taxi at night (we were learning for the airport at 4 a.m), they didn't know the prices, gave us wrong information about the cabanas twice etc. Annoying. And it's allowed to smoke in the casinos - not a plus in my book.
Situated next to a nice enough mall. Quiet location.

Hotel room exceeded my expectations. Spacious, quiet, very clean. Most of the staff are extremely friendly and accommodating. Room does not have refrigerator, microwave, or coffee maker (they want you to visit the Starbucks downstairs). However, small refrigerators are available upon request. Walmart is within walking distance for stocking up on snacks and beverages. The only decent restaurant in the hotel is the Italian one-- but it only opens for dinner and closes at 9 pm. If you are considering the hotel's buffet restaurant, definitely take a look at the food first-- we passed this one up as it was reminiscent of high school cafeteria food. If you travel light and want to cut down on the cost of travel from the airport (approx $35-$40 for a 15-20 minute ride), the city bus has a route that runs several times per hour ($5 and a 55 minute ride).

Room Tip: Higher floors,12+, are quietest.

my family and I thought this hotel was great. it is a bit far from the Las Vegas strip and Fremont but if u have a car and don't mind driving its not so bad. this hotel is affordable and for the quality of the room I thought we got a good deal! we got a room on the 17th floor and at night the view was nice. we got a room with 2 queen beds and the room was quit spacious. and it was clean! there is a casino but the hotel is still family friendly. we also enjoyed the pool!

Comfortable gaming environment. Usually a little less crowded than strip properties. Rooms and property clean. Restaurants good. Grand Cafe has great late night specials. Buffet is one of the better values in town especially with the generous 2-4 coupons they send out to their players. Easy to get to location and ample parking.

This hotel is at Henderson so unless you have a car, you're a little bit far from Las Vegas attractions. The area around the hotel has all the chain restaurants and some chain stores for shopping.

There are lots of families using the pools so expect to see lots of children. I was very surprised to learn that smoking is only prohibited in the rooms but nowhere else in the hotel.

There's a very large casino on the ground level of the hotel. There is paid wifi unless you have purchased the resort package.

My husband was working and the family tagged along. We don't gamble so I can't review that part, but as far as a hotel goes it was great! We had a junior suite which was very spacious and nice. (The couch does Not pull out though) bathroom was also nice! But the best part of the hotel was the amazing pool! Wow! The kids just loved it... Gorgeous!

First time staying at any of the "Station" resorts. We came to Vegas for a family reunion and most of the family from out-of-town stayed at this resort. Typically, we stay on the strip or downtown. I found a Groupon for this and stayed over a long weekend (Thurs-Monday cause I hate driving from Los Angeles with the LA horde on Friday/Sunday) for $252. Cheaper than the strip but about comparable to Freemont Street.

Overall, the resort is nicely appointed with big rooms, flat-panel TV with plenty of basic cable channels (unlike downtown resorts). Basic wireless internet within our room is included in the $15/day "resort fee". This fact is confusing for most people as when you first use the internet each 24-hour period, you must use your room number and last name (room registration) to access the internet. The gateway webpage plainly states that it is $9.99 per day for 1mbit or $14.99 for premium access. When I quizzed the front desk about this extra fee they stated that basic is included and they waive the $9.99 fee referred on the gateway page. And that is true, as there was no additional charge when we checked-out.

The swimming pool is large and roomy and easily accessed from the hotel rooms. Security is great at Sunset Station. A guard is placed near the hotel room elevators where you must present your room card-key and elevators also require room-card to operate. Security patrols the ample parking lots on bikes regularly. I could look out our room and see them almost everytime I looked.

Sunset has a buffet that is inexpensive $6.99 breakfast, $7.99 lunch and $9.99 for dinner. However, the food is very mediocre ("you get what you pay for") and I would advise skipping it instead going for the Grand Cafe which is much better. Additionally, the Mexican restaurant (Cabo) is very good having a Salsa bar with warm chips. Inexpensively, one could just order guacomole and margaritas and pig-out on the free chips and salsa while watching Sports Center at the restaurant bar area. There is also an Italian restaurant that we tried which is also pretty solid. The open environment in the whole resort has a nice airy feel to it.

We played a little slots there and Sunset has all the latest slot machines. My wife won a little bit but I did not. My game is black-jack but our money was tight so I didn't try my skill at it. I checked out the tables and there were plenty of $5 tables available -- even on a weekend nite. Try getting that on the strip or downtown--near impossible. They even had a $5 single-deck table and a non-smoking table!!!! Are you kidding me?!? Non-smoking table?!?!? Wow, nice! Additionally, the stained-glass decorations in the gambling area is impressive as it rivals any church for opulence.

The sports book is huge, having lots of seating and TV's in little booths that you can switch around (saw some guy sitting there watching the O'Reilly Factor) Additionally, there is a bar in the sportsbook. Played a $5 future bet on Browns and Rams winning their divisions for 2015.

We enjoyed our stay at the Sunset Station. It is cheaper than the strip but also lacking the rowdiness & freak show that is the downtown Freemont Street Experience. Sunset is very family-oriented, with lots of families and older couples staying there. We would recommend it to anyone staying in Vegas and we will be returning in the future.

Room Tip: Ask for a higher, strip-side room.
