“Just off the strip”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 January 2014

This hotel is great for a business traveler. It is just off the strip, which makes it a little quieter and still convenient to casinos great dining and shopping. The bar and gift shop are great, too. And, there is a Starbuck's right there! I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: It is my understanding rooms on the higher floors are already renovated, so you may want to request...

Green Features: This is a smoke free hotel; with the exception of the bar and slot machine area. If you are a Starwood preferred member, you can earn extra points by opting out of daily linen and towel service.

We were in Las Vegas to attend a wedding, and we wanted a hotel that was affordable, comfortable and pet-friendly. The Westin certainly fit the bill. At check-in, our dog was welcomed as a featured guest. Our fourth floor room was big and comfortable. The beds were very comfortable. The food in the restaurant, as well as the service, were first-rate. We were off the strip and yet located conveniently close enough to the Strip to make us feel included. Geneva and Nicole in the Spa were great to deal with. We will definitely return to the Westin on our next trip to Las Vegas!

Room Tip: Our room faced Flamingo, but the noise from the street never filtered up to us.

Although the rooms are all non-smoking, it's too bad you have to walk through the smoky casino and elevators to get to them. Room clean and comfortable. Didn't try the restaurants - just the happy hour, which was kind of okay, average - beer, wine, light snacks. Staff throughout kind of blasé - no one goes out of their way to greet you, ask you anything.

We hadn't been to Las Vegas in a long time. Very different from when we were last here. Big, giant behemoth casinos that, once you get in, takes forever to get out. You used to be able to walk up and down the strip in a day, in and out of casinos. Not anymore. Construction everywhere. And, again, the smoking. Las Vegas caters to smokers. Smokers, smokers everywhere. Because, smokers are gamblers.

A lot of riffraff, smelly drunken bums, loitering all over the place, in and out of casinos. When the Mob ran Vegas, you would never see that. They kept the riffraff out. Now it's all rich, greedy corporations who don't give a s**t except for profits.

Las Vegas needs to get into the 21st Century and go the way of the rest of the country, with non-smoking establishments.

Never going back.

Thank you for your review. Although we are glad to read that you found the accommodations at our hotel to be clean and comfortable, it is certainly disappointing that your time spent in Vegas was not as you had anticipated. We truly appreciate that you have taken the time to share your thoughts with us and hope if you are ever visiting the area again you will allow us the pleasure of welcoming you back.

So you just CANNOT compare this to the true 5-star hotels within a mile of this Westin. This is a great "option" hotel. Personally, had no complaints but it is a dated hotel but everything is kept in great shape. So for the price during CES week (points, dude), this was quite comfortable.

As mentioned by other reviewers, check-in was easy and friendly. No grand lobby (nothing like most other Westin properties, let alone the glitzy LV hotels), small casino floor that greets you before the lobby, has an Enterprise Rent-a-car desk, Starbucks coffee shop and decent restaurant for buffet breakfast.

Rooms are easy to get to - elevator has no security feature (most high-end hotels in Vegas do). Rooms are very good condition - heavenly bed, clean bath (not modern as I would have expected), 32" LED TV and a small fridge, desk / work area. Not much of a view since you're off the Strip but nothing blocking the view either. And you're not in paradise for the view anyway.

Gym is relatively small but all equipment is updated. Fresh towels, fresh fruit, water provided complimentary - no attendant though. If you want to use the spa (relaxation room, sauna, steam, showers) - it is complimentary but in a different area on the same floor. And if you want to use the hot tub & pool it is outdoors (also on the same floor) but the access is outside the spa doors (which is a bit inconvenient, but close enough).

Breakfast was buffet - nothing made to order but the items were replaced constantly. Didn't have lunch or dinner there to comment. Casino floor is small - few tables for 21, craps, roulette but low minimums. Everyone was very friendly - great experience. Would definitely stay here again - 3 min walk to Bally's, 7 min to Bellagio.

Room Tip: No Strip view from any room. Higher floor better.

I love Westin Beds, so for that alone, it was worth staying here, certainly the price was right. The location is also very good, as the main strip is a block away and it is strategically located in the middle of everything. The lobby? What lobby? Its a Casino floor! The casino itself is tiny by Vegas standards, but in a City where the Convenience store has slot machines, its required...
The rooms are a good size and have what one would expect from a Westin. They did try to have a happy hour which was complimentary, but only for one hour... Where was it held? In a conference room that was stuffed to the gills with square but comfortable squares. The problem was that it felt institutional at best...far from relaxing. The hot dog pizzas they served added to the tacky setting.... But I guess this is Vegas, so for the value of its location and the quality of the rooms, this may be the best bet around....

Room Tip: Depends upon your definition of view...

After travelling to Las Vegas regularly for the last 6 years for conferences it was very nice to find a fully non smoking hotel. Yes smoking is allowed in the small casino but not in any of the accommodation areas. The rooms were clean, large enough to be comfortable for a 10 day stay, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel s located a block off the strip but an easy walk to the strip, the monorail and many full casino's.
The food at the restaurant for breakfast and lunch was great. Breakfast was a choice between a well stocked buffet or order off the menu, and lunch had some great choices. Located where it is it is very quick to catch taxi's to most places as you can easily access some of the back streets and avoid the main Boulevard.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on a higher floor with views.

Green Features: The hotel had a very good bonus scheme for people who didn't want to get their room cleaned every day.

This was the Old Maxim Hotel that had been here near the strip for a very long time. It was something else even before that. The hotel is a little worn but decent enough if you can get on a preferred starwood floor like we did. Showed up at 3;30pm. Check in is at 4pm and they don't mean 3:59pm even if you are a VIP member like myself. Breakfast is atrocious so don't pay for it. We only went because it was included in our rate but it is not worth 50 cents. Gym quite small and not well equipped. Pool is nice but outside in the cold during the winter. Rooms on the preferred floor are in pretty good shape. Bathrooms too! Very close to the strip within 50 meters and right across the street of the entrance to the food court that attaches to Bally's and beyond as most of the casinos are all attached now with shopping. The new Ferris Wheel that is a copy of the London Eye, but called "High Roller" here in Vegas, is being build right beside the hotel. When that opens it will be really nice. Thanks to union workers, the entire project behind schedule by a year so it is not supposed to open until 2nd Quarter 2014. When it does they estimate the fee to ride to be $25-30.
Not a bad stay. But the hotel has certainly seen its better days.

We’re so glad you mentioned the Ferris wheel that will soon be opening next to our hotel.
