“Wonderful Room, Wonderful Service, They LOVE dogs!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 December 2006

After touring Zion, Bryce and the Canyonlands of Utah, my husband, I and our mini-dachshund wanted to finish our trip with one night in Vegas. We chose the Westin over other dog accepting places in Vegas due to its location. Had many pleasant surprises.

1st surprise, they were having a special and the room rate was $99.

2nd surprise, the hotel not only accepts pets, but welcomes them. All thru our stay we saw staff members ooohing and ahhing over various pets including a boxer! They also provide an area for the pets outside that includes a trashcan and plastic thowaway gloves so that you can clean up after your pooch with minimum fuss. As a result, that area was always immaculate.

3rd surprise, as Starwood members (we weren't, but they efficiently signed us up) we EACH received $20 in gaming credits effectively reducing the room rate to $59!

It is located just a block from the back entrance to Bally's which by tunnel takes you to Paris and then on to the rest of the strip or 2 blocks to the corner that has Bally's, Bellagio and Caesars Palace.

The toom based on other Westin's we have stayed at was exceptional as all are. Heavenly Bed is wonderful, we also had 2 nice arm chairs and an ottoman to boot.

If you are looking for the tur Vegas experience, leave your dog home and stay on the Strip, but if this is a return visit or you are travelling with your dog, the Westin is the place to be.

It is a quiet haven off the Strip, but nice because it is so convenient to the Strip. And quiet is the truth, we heard nothing once in our rooms, surprising since a maid was cleaning next door and we didn't know it until we walked outside. Even the color scheme is very quiet and neutral, a nice plus after a day in all the glitz of the Strip!

As to the smoking, the front desk advised us of the fact that smoking was allowed in the casino, but we were not bothered by it and we are both non-smokers. Perhaps a new ventilation system is in place since the other posters complained.

  • Liked — Staff friendliness and welcoming attitude towards dogs
  • Disliked — Nothing, it was a memorable stay!
  • Tips/Secrets — Save some steps, walking towards Bally's, cross at the 1st light and then use Bally's tunnel to the Paris. Then enjoy a crepe at the Paris!

Bottom Line: We love Westin, this was a great value for our family, and the Hotel Staff made all the difference. For fussier reviewers, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don't expect a Wynn or Bellagio experience at the Westin. Go to the Wynn or Bellagio and stop whining.

Reasons to Stay here:

The staff is incredible. Hotel was 100% booked during our stay and the staff were very professional and treated us like valued guests.

Close to the Strip but you avoid the Strip traffic and the convention crowds at the big hotels. Very easy to park and enter/exit the hotel. You can also walk to the Strip, which we did the night we went to see Mystere at the Treasure Island (GREAT SHOW!!!!).

Close to great restaurants. We ate at Bahama Breezes (5 min away) and really, really enjoyed it.

On-site Starbucks and full service restaurant.

Hotel is smoke free.

Westin heavenly beds are very comfy.

Allows small dogs for a $35 fee per stay (not per night). There is a dog run just outside the hotel.

Small but functional gym.

Small but functional casino if you get the urge.

This hotel offers a great value for Vegas.

Reasons Not to stay here:

Somewhat narrow hallways.
Elevators are a bit slow, but were fine for us.
Not a big singles scene -- This hotel is best for couples and families.

Hint: Apply for a Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG) membership before you book. It's a great program and Westin/Starwood is a very forward-thinking company.

I just returned from staying at the Westin and have to say that the service was very mixed. Some areas, like the front desk/ check-in, smoke free environment, heavenly beds/showers and personal greetings when calling the operator were very nice. Other services, just needed some improvement...

Elevators -- I stayed on the fifth floor, and for two of the mornings, waited over 10 minutes for the elevator - then decided to take the stairs. I heard the elevators going by, but they were not stopping on the floor. When I took the stairs, I wound up in the back area of the kitchen -- and these were stairs that were supposedly available for guests... strange.

Restaurant -- Each morning, there was a long line in the restaurant to be seated. There were many open tables in the restaurant, but the very slow hostess took one party at a time to their tables. It was an excruciating slow wait, and I don't understand why the other people at the front desk couldn't seat us.

Business center was very slow and unresponsive.

All in all, the Westin was a good deal because of the price -- however, don't expect a 5 star hotel - or you will be dissapointed.

The Westin Casuarina Hotel would be considered a really nice hotel in most cities. However in Las Vegas it is just okay. It is a nice quiet and clean hotel with a very comfortable bed and nice bathroom. It also is not nearly as crowded as the big hotels on the strip and it is a short walk to the side entrance of Ballys which gets you to the strip.

The main reasons to stay here would be the cheaper rates, it’s close to the strip, and it’s not too crowded. I personally prefer the excitement and amenities of the large hotels right on the strip.

Did NOT like Westin, felt like a under average hotel barely making average and
the appeal drops drastically because it is off the strip. Casino smelled of
smoke. Gym was really small. The bedding in the room was okay bathroom was
small. Our room just passed the mark for okay but I can see how things can
go wrong at another time and another room??? Do not pay more than $89/night.

Just got back from a baseball tourn. in Vegas. Stayed at the Westin and had a great experience. When we arrived the desk clerk let us check in early and put all our rooms together, which was great for the kids. Free self parking 50 feet from the hotel. Great breakfast and starbucks in the lobby. Clean rooms, comfortable beds with nice bathrooms. Hotel was very quite and only a short walk to the strip.
