Description: Welcome to Border Grill, Las Vegas' destination restaurant overlooking the Lazy River just off Mandalay Beach, where Chefs Mary Sue Milliken and Susan Feniger, Bravo's "Top Chef Masters" and Food Network's "Too Hot Tamales," want nothing more than to spice up your day. With two floors of patio dining, and a beautiful outdoor bar, it's the perfect setting for sipping margaritas and savoring the bold flavors of Mexico while enjoying views of the beach and pool. Border Grill Las Vegas is located in Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino. There's so much to do at Mandalay Bay. The Shark Reef, right next door to the restaurant, features sharks of all kinds, as well as a slew of exotic, predatory marine life. Stop by for fish tacos after and have the last word in the food chain.

We really wanted Mexican food. We are from the Uk so not aficionados. I went on Trip Advisor, lots of choice and some pretty terrible reviews, the Border looked ok with a few negatives. I have to say it was so bad that we actually said something....being English and never complaining directly that shows how bad our experience was. My only experience of Mexican in the states was in a restaurant in New York, can't remember the name but the stand out was that they made a guacamole at the table. The Border guacamole tasted like it was straight from a jar. The helpful waitress recommended her favourite main course, i cannot remember what it was, something slow cooked beefy, it was horrendous. We had a party of 5, everyone had different mains and everyone was disappointed. They gave us a free desert after we expressed disappointment, even that was grim. I don't think this was us being unlucky, the food just seemed to be bland, it read well, perhaps they should put more time into making sure it tastes good. It might be us, Americans might like their Mexican like this?? I reviewed a taco take away next the Wynn called tacos el Gordo. It was $2 per taco, best food I had in Vegas and best takeaway I have ever had. Save your money, go there and then you can go to the casino with more bucks in your pocket to lose!!

“Delicious food....drinks not so much.”
Reviewed 25 August 2013

Went here for a wedding reception. Because we had to wait for wedding party we hit the bar....Granted...Hussongs,T&T, pink Taco all have so-so Maragaritas but this was by far the most generic. If you want a great Margarita go to Ricardo's on Flamingo. Anyhow..back to the food.

The guacamole and chips are incomparable. Best chips and best guacamole by far and the trio of salsas were excellent. The caesar salad was really great and most salads are nothing memorable but it was downright flavorful.
The steak was served perfectly cooked with a mushroom poblano pepper over a bed of chilaquiles. Personally i love chilaquiles but others at the table did not. The steak was delcious. The side of plantains and beans were flavorful. I was impressed with the service and the food. For large parties they put you downstairs which is not the best view even if the patio is well thought out, I would have preferred to stay upstairs to see the wave pool through the windows. If you want to try Mexican food with a fresh and flavorful twist then this is your place. Drink your Margaritas elsewhere or order straight tequila for best effect.

“Fresh and flavorful”
Reviewed 21 August 2013

We ate here for lunch while at the Mandalay Bay and were pleasantly surprised with our experience! We were seated outside on the patio, and even in August, it was relaxing and not too hot. The portions are not overwhelming like at most Mexican restaurants and while we left with a full stomach, we did not feel disgusting. Guacamole was very fresh and tasty and came with 3 small salsa options. I had the carne asada taco, which were smaller than most soft tacos and the spices used on the meat were fantastic! It came with a small scoop of black beans and rice-again, the portions were much smaller than at a typical Mexican restaurant. My co-worker had a shrimp/mango salad that was a special-it was super-fresh and light. The service was also outstanding-very attentive without being annoying. If you are looking for a casual lunch or dinner, definitely swing by here!

“Not the foodie experience we expected, but not bad, either.”
Reviewed 18 August 2013 via mobile

This is nowhere near the league of, say, a Rick Bayless Mexican restaurant, but it's better than most ordinary places in this genre. The two celebrity chef owners are better than the restaurant's level of food quality, so we were more disappointed than impressed. Chile relleno, guacamole and tacos all were pretty good. Rice was way below par.
