Firstly, I review hotels based on their star ratings. Hence, I have five star expectations when staying at a five star hotel and three star expectations when staying at a three star hotel. Vdara is marketed as a five star hotel. I will list pros and cons for each category to justify the two rating I give.

Location:
Pro: the hotel is located about a block from The Strip and it takes about ten minutes to get to the strip walking through Aria.
Con: it is a little tricky to find when driving.

Check-in:
Pro: there was only one person in front of us so there was no waiting involved.
Con: we were checked in by Kyle who was not particularly welcoming. We had booked a Vdara suite as it was our honeymoon and requested a suite on a high floor with a nice view prior to arriving. We got a room on the 38th floor and proceeded to go to our room. It turns out that Kyle had given us a deluxe suite (they are small, not larger than a room at e.g. Crowne Plaza) rather than a Vdara suite. We took the elevator back to reception and were helped by Summer who assured us that Kyle could not see the room type we were given when he checked us in. We got a Vdara suite on the 12th floor. We, again, proceeded to the elevator and it turns out that the suite stank of sewage. Not the ideal romantic honeymoon ambience you want. I called reception and spoke to Leah who upgraded us to an executive corner suite on the 36th floor. The third time was the charm as the room was as advertised.

Room:
Pro: very nice views and the room is large and has a very comfortable bed. It is great to have a washer and dryer in the room.
Con: the room was not particularly clean as several other reviewers have mentioned. There were stains from glasses on the window sills, the windows were very dirty on the inside, there was dust/dirt on the floor in the powder room and there is no towel hanger in the powder room. Also it is worth mentioning that there are no utensils in the kitchen.
I expect the room to be spotless at a five star hotel.

Other:
Pro: valet parking was quick and all employees were friendly.
Con: the pool area is small and the market cafe is pricey for what you get.

Overall:
Pro: valet parking is good and the views are nice if you get a room facing the Bellagio fountains. Housekeeping will honor your requests if you tip them. We tipped $5 and requested coffee pods that weren't decaf as there only were decaf coffee pods when we arrived. The housekeeper left a good number of coffee pods and she also left four cups for us. It is non-smoking which is nice.
Con: this is NOT a five star hotel and staff aren't particularly friendly or customer oriented. There were lots of intoxicated and high guests as we stayed during EDC. I would not stay here again. I have stayed at many different Vegas hotel and I would rather stay at Monte Carlo than Vdara. The hotel should not pretend to be a five star hotel as it does not provide a five star experience on any level.

Just returned from this hotel after a 4 day stay. So here goes. LONG check in wait on arrival after an 11 hour flight from Manchester. Then a further 3 hour wait for our corner suite to be ready (which was I have to add fantastic) Mini bar prices etc and constant ongoing tips were excessive, very slow housekeeping waiting, and certain so called security staff not polite at all wanting to see your room key all the time despite seeing you over and over again. The pool area was far to small for the size of this hotel bad planning, and the pool was far to WARM and always cloudy full of loud stag and hen parties thinking they was appearing in a movie. My advice is to book and hire a private pool Cabana if in a group. Food and drink was average and expensive and you are not allowed to take anything of your own into the pool area albeit we sneaked some drinks in despite over zealous security checking your bags. And it was also far to crowded and you cannot use the sister hotels pool areas at all. The ARIA HOTEL NEXT DOOR IS FAR BETTER IN ALL AREAS.
Our room views were amazing especially at night when all the strip lights up. Try and get a Bellagio fountain view suite. Overall facilities at the Vdara poor, A Starbucks as always with long waits for an average coffee! One Cafe and it was rubbish, again made to wait to get a table and it was empty! A bar full of prostitutes asking you is this seat taken....totally non smoking in all areas so BEWARE SMOKERS, its 112 degrees in Summer and way to hot to walk over the road if you want a cigarette and in some cases 35 floors down! I loved the modern features of the Vdara but would stay again at the Aria next door for the reasons highlighted. Other than that Viva Las Vegas...Enjoy

Stayed 7 days in a 1 bedroom suite at the Vdara and loved every minute. The hotel is modern, clean, well maintained and a breath of fresh air (literally) in Vegas, thanks to their no smoking policy, you can apparently even have your pets stay with you too. Our suite was great, however we did have to request housekeeping to send up extra items for our kitchen which weren't provided automatically eg., extra plates/bowls, knives and forks which seemed odd not to be there in the first place. The addition of a washing machine and dryer was fantastic as we had accumulated a lot of washing at this stage of our holiday. The view from our room on the 39th floor was amazing, both night and day. The suite was well appointed, masses of room, gorgeous bathroom - couldn't have asked for more. After exploring Vegas for hours on end it was always a wonderful feeling to get back to this hotel as it is such a contrast to almost all the others on the strip. Would definitely stay here again if and when we return to Vegas.

Room Tip: Get a suite, that way you will have your own laundry facilities in your room.
