“Family friendly”
Reviewed 24 June 2013

Intentionally booked a week's stay in a casino-free hotel. In town for a wedding and sought a family friendly resort. We were not disappointed. Walking distance to the strip. Security personnel visible and observed walking the perimeter of property which borders Hooters. Felt very safe as a mother traveling alone with child. Would recommend to others seeking a quiet hotel in Las Vegas.

We recently spent two nights here because this is where we met our Colorado River rafting group. Rooms are very small and bathroom even smaller. Free breakfast is crowded and hard to find a place to sit. Everything is pretty worn and tired looking. When we returned from rafting trip to pick up stored luggage, the lobby was a zoo with people trying to do the same plus new check ins. They needed more staff for this time of day. Staff is friendly. Spend a bit more and say somewhere nicer.

I first stayed here several years ago for a Jimmy Buffett concert at the MGM since the Desert Rose is only a block or so from that part of the Strip (but remember, a Vegas block can be about a mile long). The resort has a little more 'used' look to it than back then, but still is as advertised - a relaxing and refreshing hideaway dramatically different from the crush of people at the Vegas casino hotels. We refer to it as our Desert Oasis, quiet & safe. It has 24 hour reception and security staff. The staff was friendly and helpful.

Desert Rose consists of several buildings with one and two bedroom units, each with a full kitchen, dining area and livingroom. Our condo was clean and comfortable. There's a pool, lawn, free parking, wifi and a laundry. Each morning there's a complimentary continental breakfast buffet from 6 to 9:00AM. Monday through Thursday afternoon there's a complimentary manager’s reception with snacks and beverages (including beer & wine) from 5 to 7PM.

The resort is within walking distance to the strip. There was a bus stop near our building that travels up and down the strip and downtown to Fremont street. You can buy 24 hour $8 ticket and just hop on and off the bus wherever you want. Note - if touring around Fremont street later at night, be sure to board the bus/grab a seat where it originates at the downtown/busbarn stop because it gets very full very fast with tourists all heading back to the Strip hotel/casinos for the evening.

I stayed at the Desert Rose Resort and was welcomed like I was a returning guest. The service from the staff was incredible, they went out of their way for me without really having to.

Rooms: I stayed in a one bed-room unit and was glad to have the full kitchen. The bed and the couch were both comfortable. The unit was clean.

Location: Although the resort is not near the Strip, it is in an area that you feel safe in.

Price: YMMV, but I was happy with the rate that I paid. Very seasonal.

Overall I would recommend staying at the Desert Rose Resort, especially if you plan on staying in Vegas for more than 3 days and don't mind being off of the Strip.

Room Tip: There is not a great view from many rooms, the best would be to over look the pool area.

Rooms were clean and very comfortable. I was in a two bedroom suite, which had a full kitchen. The pool is very nice after a hot day on the strip. Breakfast is included and is adequate to start the day. There is a shuttle service for $7.50 from the airport or a cab for about $14. Return to airport is cheaper by cab, about $10 , as the is no airport service charge. No food other than breakfast is served at the hotel but the casinos are close. Make reservations in advance as it gets crowded.

The good thing is there was a kitchen included but no frying pan. You have to bring or purchase some basics such as oil, salt, pepper and seasoning. Recommended to stay longer more than 5 days because you will need one day to go to groceries for you kitchen and to use up all your stuffs you bought from the grocery store. The air cond. were noisy when the compressor is running and the 2 rooms temperature were unegual. The wireless internet were all so slow even in their front desk. Air cond and computer speed needs updgrade. Two days without coffee serve at the continental breakfast due to out of order. They have tea bags but no instant coffee pack. Hot water were cold and the 24 hours coffee pot were cold...no one checking on it.
If you stay late in the Las Vegas Strip, you might miss the continental breakfast (6AM-9:00AM). Not unless they will extend to 10:30AM. Not much selection. No quaker oats, muffins, croissant.
Staffs are helful. Welcome Reception from Monday to Thursday, 5PM to 7PM, free beers, wines, juice and soda with fingers food cheese, cracker but sometimes only carrots and celery.
To take a taxi from Hotel to Airport in about $10 plus tips. Otherwise if you could walk (10 mins.)with your luggage to go to Tropicana bus stop near Tropicana hotel, cost you $2. You can pay upfront to the bus or buy 24 hours ($8) before the following day departure of your flight at the vegas strip and you could use that night for DEUCE bus or SDX bus in the las vegas strip. Then the following day use it to Wescliff Express Bus (WAX) for the airport, it will stop one bus stop and it will take you to the airport for ten minutes only. Do not take SDX bus, cause they do not accept luggage (but some did it) and it will take you more than half hours cause it will stop so many times. This WAX bus is accessible from the Airport to las vegas strip.
Building 2 or 4 is near to the bus stop. I prefer 3rd floor but the elevator were hot as you were inside the oven and slow although you can go by the stair, if you have no luggage.

Room Tip: Building no. 3 or 4 are a little bit near to the strip. Buiding no. 3 near at the Luxor and Mandalay...
