“Good off-the-Strip hotel”
Reviewed 29 November 2013 via mobile

We stayed here with 35 members of our family for a reunion. It was perfect for us because we could make our own meals and the rooms were spacious enough for me, my husband and our three teenagers.

The staff sanitized the breakfast buffet area every morning after breakfast. The food was adequate. The pool is small. However, we spent so much time outside the hotel doing other things, we didn't even go to the pool once the whole weekend.

It is a half a block from Las Vegas Blvd. and the MGM Hotel so be prepared to walk to casinos and to see the action on The Strip. It's not far though and when you're in Vegas, you walk a lot anyway.

We would stay here again.

We spent 2 nights at the Desert Rose and enjoyed our stay for the most part. Our room was lovely. Well appointed 1 bedroom suite with full kitchen. A good breakfast is included daily and is more than sufficient. The only things we would comment on to the negative, are that we had to wait for approximately 3 hours for our room to be ready. This may have been because we booked through a booking site and not directly with the property. We also found the sightseeing helicopters which buzzed overhead every 20-40 seconds (yes seconds) somewhat annoying. On the plus side, there is a lovely pool with BBQ's and a happy hour in the afternoon. Would stay again as we like the low rise smaller property and the staff were very nice.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms away from the laundry.

Great BBQ on site too.love the breakfast every morning and Happy Hour Monday thru Thursday. When we arrived we felt as though we were a little way off the action.
Once we settled we went for a walk to the strip and wouldn't have taken us more than 10mins.
The room was a bit of a distance from the main entrance of the hotel but there were other exits and entrances that we could get in and out of.
Room was sizeable with lounge area, kitchen and dining, separate bedroom although only bathroom was through main room. We had our 16 year old staying on pull out couch.
The breakfast was ok, we did have to line up but line went quickly and we always found somewhere to sit.
Everyone was very helpful.

Room Tip: Our room was great except that having a 16 yold having to go through bedroom to get to toilet/shower...

We stayed at this resort during the government shut down. Several sites we wanted to visit were closed, so everyone in Vegas was on the strip. The hotel was very nice but in need of updating. Our room overlooked the dumpster and when we asked for another room we were shown one that was not cleaned. We did not have tissues in our room or enough shampoo, soap and conditioner. The tub drained very very slowly. The breakfast was very good and well attended. During the week they host an evening cocktail hour which was a nice time to meet other guests. Guests were smoking in the pool area which meant that we asthma victims could not use the pool. The laundry area was neat and clean and located near our room. The hotel is just behind the strip so we were able to walk to the casinos. We traded our Marriott resort for this and felt that it was not really a fair exchange even though Marriott left gifts for their owners staying at this resort.

Our flight arrived late, and, thankfully, the check-in was quick and easy. Since we were exhausted and hungry from the long flight the staff recommended Coco's about a 5 min. walk away. Great choice! Good food and inexpensive. He also advised that since we were timeshare residents, we could have continental breakfast delivered to the room daily at no charge along with the USA newspaper. What a joy! My only complaint was the condition of the carpets. They needed shampooing badly! We had a 2 BR 2BA unit with a side view of the strip. The bathroom was extremely small and needed some shelves for tolietries but we adjusted to that after a few days. Admittedly an older resort, but, with a little housekeeping and their great customer service, the Desert Rose could easily be a 4 star resort.

We stayed at this hotel for 4 nights at the end of October 2013 and could not fault it. It is in an ideal position nice and quiet 1 block away from the main strip that takes about 5 minutes max to get to. It is smoke free and casino free and there is no resort fee added to the final bill as most Vegas hotels do. The free breakfast is ideal to start the day with a nice choice of toast, cereal sausages or bacon etc. There is free tea and coffee 24 hours a day. Monday to Thursday 5-7 was free beer and wine. All the staff were helpful and friendly. The rooms were massive, clean and tidy. As it was the end of October we had no problem getting a lounger around the pool but this might not be the case in the height of summer. When ever I book a holiday I research trip advisor before making a decision of where to stay and it never ceases to amaze me what people moan about. So ignore the negative reports, which I did and I guarantee that you wont find a better value hotel in Vegas. enjoy your holiday here as we did
