We took a family trip to Vegas to celebrate some big birthday milestones. We had a two-bedroom at the Marriott, and then added a one bedroom at the Planet Hollywood Towers, which is right across the street.
We checked in to the PH Towers first; and we felt let down with our Marriott room because if felt frumpy when compared to the classy PH Towers. But by the end of the week, we all grew to appreciate the Marriott because of the significant difference in service between the two – Marriott (first class) and PH Towers (no class).
The Marriott really should have gone with a different design for Vegas – something more contemporary or glamorous. The room was very traditional which is fine in Lake Tahoe, but I would expect something different in Vegas. The room was nice – our only complaints were that the kitchen layout is difficult (the dishwasher/sink/refrigerator area) and our shower was black on the ground and leaked. The shower has a “governor” on it, so I could never get it hot, which was a bummer. We cooked which most people don’t on vacation, and found the facilities good for entertaining. We had a washer/dryer in our room, plus another full size set right down the hall.
The location of the Marriott was very convenient; and service, as with any Marriott, was excellent. Valet parking was free, and the valet staff was awesome. They seemed interested in what we were doing, and always ready with directions. We had a couple of maintenance calls (our fault, we locked ourselves out of our lock-off and we couldn’t figure out the washing machine) and we had immediate response to our needs. We never walked in or out of the building without someone greeting us. Our only complaint was that they were working on the room above us with power drills at 8:00 am. Seriously? Vegas at 8:00 am?
Security was good, elevators required key access after 6:30.
Internet access was extremely slow and frustrating, even after the front desk gave us a bridge.
