I have stayed at this resort/casino 3 times now, and never been disappointed. It has everything you need, a good casino, movie theatres, great pool, good restaurants, bowling alley, equestrian center, bingo hall, etc. Something for everyone.
I like the fact that it is at the southern most end of the Strip, away from all the hustle and bustle. I usually rent a car, so it is no problem to zip out to other attractions and casinos, being right on the strip, with super easy access to Highway 15. And when I am tired of the craziness and noise of the Strip and Old Town, I head back to South Point! If you don't like to drive, don't worry, there is a shuttle to get you around, but don't be surprised if you find you never leave the place.
Rooms are quiet and comfortable, and clean. Staff is great. And I personally have found a little more "luck" here than at the larger casinos.
I am a non-smoker, and find the casino is pretty well ventilated, unlike some of the older ones. Also there is only 1 floor of rooms in this hotel that even allow smoking. A BIG plus.
this is my go to place when I am in Vegas!

Since 2009 with my family qwe are regular visitors of this Hotel. We've stayed there already nearly 10 times.
We like it because it is easy access everything in Vegas and surrounding, still it is off the crowded Strip.
The rooms are big, clean and tidy, equipped with Plasma screens. Now finally with free wifi.
The restrooms and are really great.
Food is for your choice, you can find nearly everything for great value price, my kids favourite is Steak and Shake.
Don't miss Rene's egg creations at the breakfast - and yes ask real eggs, not the liquid.
There is always something what will entertain you additionally.
The staff is really friendly and keen to help.
The pools are very good with hot tube as well. Although on hot summer days the big pool might be for some people too chilly.
It is good to take a room with view (mid floor and up) - you can see some fantastic sun rises through the windows over the mountains - of course if you can wake up so early...
The hotel is always crowded, still everything goes smoothly.
You can have really bargin offers if you can book in advance, via email, Twitter, or Facebook.
We never play, so I can not judge the casino :( we keep the money for travelling and shopping in the near Outlet Center.
If you have really nothing else to do, the cinema complex is great you'll enjoy your favourite moives in highest quality.

Room Tip: Take minimum mid floor it is worth to pay a bit more! View mainly towards the mountains at sunrise i...

We booked here because it was away from the crowds, and the rooms were inexpensive. In that respect, we got what we paid for. The restaurants were cheap, but the food quality and service were substandard. The rooms are clean, but the main floor needs attention. It reminds me of Circus Circus in the Casino and restaurant areas. There are regular buses to the strip, but you have to transfer buses and the wait can be substantial. It took me 1:10 to get to the South Strip. The Resort fee was a drag, as I didn't expect it.
We wouldn't stay there again.

My wife and our 2 friends stayed at the South Point over the Easter Weekend (March 28-31). As our flight from Toronto had arrived too late to take advantage of the complimentary shuttle bus, we had to take a cab. This was still a reasonable cost, given the distance south of the Strip that South Point is located. Check-in was uneventful, and both couples were able to upgrade to a city/mountain view room at no additional charge. The rooms are very generous in size, with very comfortable beds (always somewhat of a, uh, gamble in Vegas). An in-room fridge would have been nice (they're available, for a $15 additional fee per night), and having more actual glasses would have been nice (only 2 small glasses and 3 dixie cups are standard). They'll need to think hard about renovating/redecorating within a few years, but the furniture/carpets weren't looking too careworn. Still, for a cheap rate, I wasn't complaining too much.

The most pleasant aspect of the resort was (except for one notable exception) how friendly the staff here was. Not that we had too many requests, but everything we asked for was done quickly, professionally and with a smile.

Food was good. The Steak & Shake had good burgers and great shakes, for reasonable prices. The buffet was solid if nothing special (we had a coupon that gave us half-price for brunch, so that was nice)...pretty much par for the course with most Vegas buffets. The Mexican restaurant (Baja Miguels) had good service, but after eating there, 3 of us ended up feeling naseous, and I was actually sick. Bad luck, I'm thinking.

While it's a fair ways south of the Strip, there is a shuttle service departing hourly at a round-trip cost of $8 per person...well worth the cost, since a cab to the MGM from the South Point will run you $25. There's an outlet mall about a 5 minute cab ride away, but don't bother, or go to the North Vegas location.

As far as gambling is concerned, this was (for me) the most pleasant surprise. Lots of $5 Blackjack tables operating 24/7, with 3/2 odds and friendly dealers. That said, if you end up with a bald-headed Asian fellow named John, leave the table quickly. Unlike all the other dealers, this guy was a rude jerk, who wasn't shy about telling players off if he felt they weren't behaving properly. A real turn-off. Craps were also cheap, but the odds (compared to other casinos) weren't great. A lot of locals come here to gamble because of the low limits. For me, this is the main incentive to return.

The pool area was nice, though not as big as depicted in the images on the resort's website. Nice layout with lots of ample chairs and loungers.

The only negative was that there were a LOT of families with young (and mostly unsupervised) children. Part of the issue was that there were several basketball/baseball/bowling tournaments going on locally, so there were a lot of typically loud and rude teenagers prowling about the pool area. I'll never understand why people take their kids to Vegas. This is a town for grown ups. If you want family fun, take them to Florida or Disneyland in CA.

All in all, I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone, particularly if you want to gamble and chill out. I love the strip, but it can be crazy and expensive if you want to hit the tables. This is a nice all-inclusive alternative that's close to the Strip to be a viable option, and you can't beat the value as far as the rooms are concerned.

Room Tip: If you get there later, you should be able to upgrade to a Mountain/Strip view room at no additional...

Stayed two nights, mid week. Prices were great. Loved the valet car service; with just a small tip, our car was right there within minutes. The room was big & clean. Spent an afternoon at the pool and loved it. Enjoyed a good breakfast at Coronado Café. Enjoyed a REAL GOOD lunch at Baja Miguels. Not real impressed with the Garden Buffett-Just OK. Only wished the curtains in the room would totally block out the east morning sun.

Room Tip: Maybe ask for a west side room, to avoid the east morning sun.

We were there Spring '12 for the second time and loved every minute! The rooms are lovely and clean.
We had THE MOST FUN at the casino..enjoyed the more laid-back atmosphere compared to the strip.
We found the restaurants to be wonderful and reasonably priced.
The ONLY reason not 5 star is the location..not conveneint to the strip or much of anything else..but a great place!
We are going back the end of April (for just a night) before a flight home to FL..but we can't wait..celebrating our 10th anniv with a trip and can't wait to get back there again!

The average crowded, noisy, smoky, casino hotel in Las Vegas. Went to Vegas for business, my travel partner chose this hotel because of location and the opportunity to gamble. If you like crowds, inhaling thick smoke, very loud casino machine noises ... then this is the place for you. While we were basically only there to sleep, it was impossible to do with the hard beds, stiff pillows and the paper thin walls (heard someone snoring in the next room). Very uncomfortable stay overall. Just like the saying goes, "some will, some won't, so what ... next! If I have to travel to Vegas again, I would prefer to stay in a quiet, non-smoking, non-casino hotel ... if there is such a place.
