Huge rooms, 11 restaurants, nice pool, 64 lane bowling centre, large multi-screen cinema - overall this hotel has a high standard of facilities. It's a little off the main drag - taxis were costing about $24 to get onto the Strip - but they were readily available, and the Hotel does provide an all day 'Shuttle Pass' for $8, but we weren't organised enough really to use that - so that's our fault, not the hotel's. We were there for the World Series of Bowling, so I saw a lot of the Bowling Centre, but it's well appointed, large and airy (a little cold for non-bowlers!) - food and drink provision is good. I find it quite difficult that most if not all of the casinos in Vegas allow smoking - as this is no longer permitted in the UK, it's not pleasant if you're a non-smoker, but hey ho! South Point is a good option if you don't mind not being on the Strip itself. Plenty to keep you occupied at South Point, but the Bell Desk will help you organise trips out (and sort out problems quickly). Great.

Room Tip: All the rooms were huge from what I can tell - LOVELY beds - although they're huge as well. Jus...

I booked three rooms here for my wife's family's birthday. I would have given it an average rating for rooms, prices, amenities except for the following. Customer service is horrible. Except for two occasions they are for the most part apathetic and on three distinct occasions were just downright rude. For the most part they are just disinterested and not helpful. After two days of this, the final straw was that after spending the entire night gambling we put a do not disturb sign in the key card slot and housekeeping just ignored it and knocked on the door so they could clean the room.
Then when they did clean the room they just threw the blankets over the bed, took the dirty towels and left one.
The casino is small compared to others but this is what we wanted. If you are looking for the glitz that Vegas is famous for you might want to stay on the strip. And I don't believe that I have ever seen this many penny slots in a casino. Reminds my of the Indian Casinos in Florida. Wacky games.
Taxis to the bottom of the strip (Mandalay Bay) is a minimum of $20. About $25 to the airport.
The resort fee here at present is $15. per day per room. So if you want to do the strip and are just staying here for the price you would probably be better off staying on the strip. The taxi and shuttle service will add up fast.
Look, we had a good time, but if you have have to deal with any of the staff, you probably won't be happy. The only happy staff we talked to was at the roulette wheel. Cindy (dealer) and Jeff the pit boss. Thanks for trying guys. If the other employees were like this I wouldn't mind the distance and lack of glitz, but as it is, it is doubtful that we will return for our yearly excursion to Vegas.

We are sorry to hear your stay with us was not an enjoyable experience. We can assure you that this is not the type of guest service we train our staff for and we will discuss this with those areas mentioned to prevent this from happening in the future. Our mission here at the South Point is to provide the best possible service to our guests, and anything short of that is totally unacceptable. Please accept our sincere apology for any inconveniences you experienced. We hope you will reconsider a future stay with us.

This is my third time staying at the South Point and it's always a pleasure. It's more down to earth, less flashy, "family-friendly" Vegas. Rooms are huge, clean, modern, and the showers have great water pressure. Some days it was hard to get me out of the shower, it felt so good! :) Rooms are always affordable and the staff is friendly and helpful. I stayed with a large group of friends from all over the country to see Tower of Power at the Showroom and we all had great experiences. South Point offers a little something for everyone. The restaurants are all wonderful, particularly the Coronado Cafe for the variety and ability to seat large groups quickly and with a smile. My group is also overly fond of the Seattle's Best Coffee shop and Steak and Shake, as well as Don Vito's and the tequila bar. The pool area is bright, sunny, large and oh so relaxing, particularly the jacuzzi in the back corner. There was a rodeo at the SouthPoint the weekend we visited and the place was packed with cowboys. The staff got into the spirit, dressing like cowboys, playing country music etc. Between the rodeo, the movie theatre, the bowling alley, restaurants, showroom, spa, salon, fitness center, pool, bingo room, and casino, there's no way you could be bored. You can stay for days and never leave the hotel. If you want to see the strip, they do have shuttle service available with drop off at Excalibur, Luxor, or Aria. My group considers the South Point our own "clubhouse" and we look forward to staying there every fall. It's affordable luxury and great customer service at a location a few miles from the strip. It makes it quiet, less crowds, and is close to Premium Outlets as well as the stores of suburbia. if you're looking to do Vegas on a budget, or want a less flashy place to stay with great food, great rooms and great staff, SouthPoint is the place to be. I love it there so much!

Room Tip: upgrade to mid level room for view of the strip or the pool

We stay here every year for a horse show. The rooms are huge and well decorated especially for the price and especially when you compare them to rooms on the strip. The hotel has plenty of restaurant options in all different price ranges and types. You never have to leave the hotel if you do not want to. The equestrian center is easy to get to and very clean and well managed. The pool is very nice and the hot tub is even better. It is large and in a private area with a waterfall in the middle. Great for fall days! I have also been to the spa which was clean and professional and relaxing. I really do not have a negative thing to say about this place. If you are looking for an upscale yet reasonably priced hotel off of the strip, this is the only place!

Room Tip: Mid level with a pool view is better priced then a room on an upper level with the same or lesser vi...

We have stayed many times at the South Point. My review is based on our recent stay at the end of October 2013.

The Good. The pool is open until 10:00 and was still open the last week of October. The pool area is ample size with lots of deck chairs and room for shade and privacy (unlike casinos like the Mirage or Treasure Island). The pool being open is the main reason we chose the South Point for this trip. The hot tub is very big and circular with an island in the middle. This provides many air jets and privacy. This is one of the best hot tubs in Vegas. The music at the pool was very good and not too loud (unlike the jungle thumping crap at the Rio). The room size is quite large. It has a round table and two chairs we find very convenient when having a coffee and muffin in the morning. The bed and bedding was reasonably comfortable. It had a comfort pad over the mattress. The bathroom is in two parts which is convenient when getting ready. The room was well cleaned every day and well stocked with supplies. The room has a little coffee maker supplied with coffee and tea included in the price, We avoid using those coffee machines since we don't believe they can be adequately cleaned. The parkade is close to the casino. The highway (15) is very close. You can be on the strip in 7 minutes and downtown in about 10 depending on traffic. I hear other reviewers complain that it is far off the strip. Yes it is. Stay here if you have a car or shut up. Try google maps before you book. You get a coupon book that gives you the buffet at half price. The buffet is marginal. It is definetly not as good as years past. I would not pay full price. There are better buffets elsewhere. The security staff are friendly unlike some casinos (Rio). They do a good job and are present during the evening by the elevators. They have a hot dog cart by the sports betting from 11:00 to 5:00. They sell fantastic Vienna hot dogs for .75 cents. Make sure you tip the lady since she has to hand out probably 500 or more hot dogs a day standing on her feet. It is great if you just want a light snack.

The Bad. The day we arrived (Oct 27) it was over the top smokey in the casino. The next day it was better. It must have been a mechanical failure or something. They should have opened all the doors to clear the air. There were two unruly unsupervised kids in the pool area that were screaming, running and jumping in the pool. The lifeguard/attendant did nothing to control them. The pillows had a chemical smell that you couldn't avoid when lying on them. For years the Vegas casinos have been plagued by whiners about the fee for internet access. In response they now charge everyone!!! We all now pay for those immature insecure people who can't function if they can't be close to facebook, twitter, e-mail etc. Your on vacation. Take a break!! The Steak and Shake franchise is awful. It is overpriced and lousy food. Get in your car and go to In&Out Burger on Tropicana for amazing burgers and shakes for 2.00. If I owned the South Point I would dump Steak and Shake and bring in In&Out burger. The final bad point is that they now TRY to charge you for a higher room or one with a view. THERE IS NO VIEW!! You are miles from the strip. Don't fall for this bean counting con job. REFUSE!!

Now inspite of my negative comments I would recommend the South Point provided you can get rooms for about 35 to 40 dollars. Add in the tax and bean counter fee you are around $60 per night. Any more and I recommend staying on the strip or try the Suncoast ($25) etc..

Room Tip: Don't pay extra for a higher floor or a view room. There is no view. You are miles from anywhere...

Traveling with a group of friends, we did a quick one night stop over here and were not disappointed in the least! This place offers such an incredible variety of things in one place that it would be perfect if traveling with a family. Movie theater, bowling alley, gambling, equestrian center, bingo and more. Huge variety by way of food choices. We ate steak and shake which was delicious and affordable. Others in our group ate the buffet and were very pleased as well. For breakfast, I had a fantastic made to order egg and cheese bagel at a deli located over by the sport's book (can't recall the name of the deli) and I was sorry that I hadn't seen this place for dessert the night before. Huge glass display case full of NY deli style desserts that made me seriously consider having dessert for breakfast! The room itself was large and clean with comfortable beds. Parking was free which was an ever welcome bonus as most casinos charge for parking. All in all, if you don't mind staying off strip, this place is definitely worth checking out!

We have stayed at various hotels on the strip but this time we were just stopping in Las Vegas for one night on our way to Utah and Colorado.
This was our first visit to South Point Hotel, Casino and Spa, and we were pleasantly surprised. It's a newer hotel and it has enough going on to keep you entertained without having to venture out to the 'strip'.
We have stayed at the Wynn, Encore, Monte Carlo and so on and this hotel is up there with the best of them and at a more reasonable nightly rate.
The buffet, with it's great dessert variety including a whole range of 'sugar free' deserts if desired, surpassed the one at the Wynn - which, by the way, had no cheesecake on out last two visits there!
The rooms, at South Point, were clean and spacious and the beds were very comfortable. Our only annoyance came when a few intoxicated young guys came up to their rooms - shortly after 11pm. They were loud and woke us up. I guess this is something that cannot be prevented by the hotel management and I won't let it affect my review of this fine hotel.
We will be back - South Point.
