This was our second visit to this hotel. Yes, it's not on the Strip, but we were visiting with family who were staying downtown. From check-in to check-out, the stay was just as nice as when we were here a few months ago. Large, very clean rooms. Comfortable bed. Pool view. We ate at a couple of the restaurants, which were fine. Large gift shop. A good value for a mid-week getaway.

South of the "strip" but has everything you need. The rooms are large and well furnished. The hotel itself has plenty of activities as well as eateries to satisfy just about any taste. If you absolutely must visit the strip, there's a shuttle that will take you and pick you up.

Room Tip: Some rooms face the other towers of the hotel. Try to get one that doesn't

Stayed in April 18th - April 23rd 2014 on the 16th floor with a Mtn View and Pool view room. We were 2 adults on a 5 night vacation to see the strip as well as Hoover Dam.
Room: as many reviews have stated, room size is spacious. Our view from the 16th floor was nice overlooking the pool and Mtns to the west. Being on the 16 floor seemed to be high enough for the views but also since they split the elevators between room floors 1-14 and 15+, we never had to wait that long for the elevators as we were the first off and last on when returning from the ground floor, a nice advantage I would say, less waiting and small talk on the elevators during vacation time can add up, you will be traveling up and down the elevators more than you think.
Lack of mini fridge is a real bummer, we purchased a $3 Styrofoam cooler for our stay, need cold drinks and lack of mini fridge is a real miss for this hotel.
Hotel: gift shop had real good prices on beverages, no need to run to supermarket for these, just purchase at gift shop. We are not gamblers, so the casino did not interest us but we did enjoy walking around seeing the action. The main floor has the casino and most everything else, a pretty basis rectangle layout with a bar, restaurants, coffee, betting room, etc pretty much on the perimeter surrounding the casino. It was nice and easy at first, but after a couple of days on the strip just strolling through the mega resorts, this sort of layout kind of got boring, that can be good and bad, as we quickly learned our way around. We ate at the Mexican restaurant on the 2nd floor and the food was excellent, good price and service was fast for a sit down restaurant, no complaints here. We had the Sunday Easter Buffet at the Buffet restaurant, huge selection, but was crazy busy and lines at the many stations were difficult to determine who was next or if someone was cutting in line, many stations with different variety so folks jumping around. Once you do their buffet once, I think the next time you will navigate it much easier. Food better than average I thought, I am simple steak and potato type guy, my girlfriend was so-so on her review of the food. Breakfast buffet much the same, get there early, lines were huge for late breakfast folks, we just made it in before closing.
Arena: for kicks we purchased tickets for the Bull Riding event, they told us all the cheap seats were sold out so we upgraded to the next tier, and come to find out the arena was only half full for the event, so we felt a little shafted by the ticket salesman for this bait and switch approach. If staying for an event on property, make sure the salesman isn't just trying to upsell. The arena itself is quaint, and easy access, no bad seats in the house, hence why we were a little upset for getting the unnecessary upcharge for "upgraded" seating.
Pool: did not really use the pool during our stay since it was extremely busy during Nevada school vacation period, but we used the adult hot tub area which was excellent and a large circular rock formation so folks could sit on both sides, and adults only so any kids under 14 not allowed and service seem to make sure this was monitored closely, a nice service to keep little folks out of the adult area, I am not a little folks hater, I have two of my own, but when you want adult time and there is a huge pool for the little ones to enjoy, keeping the ages separate I feel is best for everyone to enjoy. Snack and beverage shack with waitresses taking orders made a nice vacation atmosphere.
Strip distance: it was about 15 mins from hotel to strip. We had a rental car and used valet every time, made sense to pay a few dollars on pick-up (not drop off) and we never waited too long, those valet parking attendants work their tail off, the faster they work the more they make. Do the same at the resorts, use valet, do not bother with the free parking, you will find yourself walking long distances and wondering where your car is, we chose self park at Ceasars our first visit and learned our lesson, for a few bucks so well worth it to use valet, don't be cheap or you will regret it. My girlfriend used the shuttle service one day as I went golfing (Paiute Wolf, very nice) and that was a nightmare for her, the shuttle is not clearly marked and service was horrible, she had to call and ask why she did not get picked up at one of the stops, she got the runaround and another couple experienced the same, get a rental car and avoid frustration.
Overall, we really enjoyed South Point, you get a lot for your money. This was our first trip to Vegas, and we are not big gamblers so we thought staying off the strip and visit at our own pace made sense. If we go back, I am not sure if we will decide the same, depending if you plan on staying on strip for most of your time or not. For us, South Point was perfect knowing we were going to Hoover Dam and I was playing golf out of the 5 days we were there, that the higher prices for strip hotels did not make sense.

Room Tip: get mid level Mtn Room view, levels 15-18 so you get off and on elevator quicker

Finding a hotel in peak summer on the strip is a daunting task especially when you plan for a spur of the moment trip to Vegas. Having to compromise on the stay, we settled for this hotel that turned out to be ideal for our convenience.

Checked into a plush and spacious room with comfy bedding and spotless sheets. The room did not have great views but that did not bother us as we were out on the strip most of the time. The service was impeccable, staff helpful and the rooms spacious and clean. Perfect for the 3 nights we spent in Vegas. Econmically affordable for families and large groups.

Very comfortable dwellling that had all the facilities of interest in and around the hotel. Really good find even though it is off the strip (about 15 minute drive) this hotel is perfect for your family budget.

Bowling league books this hotel for the end of our "winter" season. Rooms are spacious and clean. Not as crowded as the strip, see more locals, and has a semi-western motif. Not only is there a bowling alley, but a movie theater. I normally like heading east towards Eastern Avenue where there is shopping and restaurants.
