“An Unexpected Delight and a Real Bargain”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 January 2009

We were in Vegas en route to St George, Utah for reasons connected to my s/o mother's estate, so not for gambling. We just needed a pleasant, comfortable hotel for one night and selected South Point based on TripAdvisor reviews. We paid a ridiculous $47 for a huge, lovely King sized room, it was very nicely furnished, not tacky at all and everything seemed brand-new, terrific bed and linens, flat screen tv, Bath and Bodyworks shampoo etc-which were great-and a wonderful bathroom with separate dressing /sink area. As other people have said , the parking is quite a way from the elevators and you either have to drag your baggage through the casino or pay for valet...come on if you can afford to gamble surely you can spring for valet parking plus tip!! We ate at the breakfast buffet which was fine nothing remarkable but a basic steam table buffet with terrific oatmeal and some good fruit selections and it was 2 for 1 with the book of coupons that are provided upon check-in. Check-in and out were both a breeze and the few staff that we came into contact with were pleasant and eager to help.We drove to the strip in about 6 minutes and parked for free at the Mirage-the parking guys suggested a quick route and also told us where to park for free...so they earned their tip!All in all a very good experience, not a 5 star property, but a very good 3-4 star. The only negative was the $25 for use of the gym.exercise room which seemed like daylight robbery it should be included in the rate.

  • Liked — The Room was great
  • Disliked — Being scalped for using the gym.

Just back from the South Point and our stay was wonderful. The entire staff with whom we had contact were very helpful and always pleasant to deal with. If we needed anything, the response was swift and always in a very pleasant manner. The atmosphere throughout was very enjoyable and provided us with a very worthwhile stay. The hotel and casino are a nice break from the strip which looks more like a construction zone rather than a vacation destination. Access to and from the property is easy and convenient. This allowed us to visit many more of the Las Vegas places of entertainment, dining and attractions with out spending an hour trying to navigate the strip for an hour just to get in or out of our hotel. Free self parking is very conveniently located at the South Point. We had a rental car so we did not have to listen to the cadre of complainers who wanted the shuttle to run on "THEIR" schedule rather than one that best fits the majority of the patrons. This is our second stay at the South point and definately will not be our last. The casino is very well lit and not cramped together like many of the properties on the main part of the strip. We did not win a fortune but we also did not lose. The return on our gambling dollar was very reasonable and playing the various games was extremely enjoyable. Dining was enjoyable and reasonably priced. Everyone we talked to at the hotel and in the casino had nothing but praise for the facility and the staff. The South Point has been and continues to be our choice of places to stay and gamble in Las Vegas and trust me, we have stayed on the strip at Places like the MGM, Luxor etc... and this beats them all for our buck. If all you can do is complain, maybe you ought to rethink what your idea of a vacation is or go elswhere. For us, we will continue to stay at South Point.

We stayed at the South Point Casino based on Trip Advisor reports and found it to be a very pleasant hotel next to the Freeway on the edge of the city .

The Hotel was large with plenty of free parking ,it also had a very efficient valet check in service which we used as it was raining and cold !

Check in was very quick and the check in clerk very helpful in telling us about the facilities and how to get to the strip which is another story .

The rooms we had were on a non smoking floor and cost
us $107.90 for 2 nights INCLUDING 2 garden buffets ,free fitness center entry and 4 free cocktails . This is a promotion South Point Run and the offer code is BBFAVPKG.
We had a super king bed in a spacious room that was all you would expect of a 3 to 4 star hotel . Had to say even tho i am not big at 190lbs the towels were tiny and made me think we had stumbled on a small persons bathroom !

One thing about Vegas that bugs us is how people smoke in just about every space , even the elevator ! Jerks...

The food was nothing to write home about and we only ate at the Garden Buffet once and went out to eat .

Since South Point is out of Las Vegas you can either drive in or catch the Shuttle to the Mandalay Bay . It takes 15-20 minutes dependant on traffic and was a pain in the butt . We are going to Vegas in Jan 09 and will stay nearer to the Strip at the Hilton .

Its a good value hotel that will appeal to those looking for value and larger rooms .

  • Liked — Great pricing
  • Disliked — Too far away from the strip

Large hotel casino about 10 minute drive south of the south end of the strip. They have a large parking garage or you may use valet. Check-in about 3pm was quick compared to others I have been to. It took about 10 minutes wait in line and about 5 minutes or less once to the desk. Reserved a high floor smoking king and that is what I got. Great view looking north across the city toward the strip. Upon entering room I was very impressed. Clean!! Large flat panel on the wall. Bed was very comfy with like 5 large pillows on the bed. Large clean bathroom stocked with Bath & Body Works products. If you like to talk on the phone while in the bathroom you can do it here.

Casino has many slots, table games, video poker, a sports book, race book for parimutual races. I found the buffet to be reasonably priced and quite tasty. Prime rib on Wednesday was $15. Included an Asian station, seafood, mexican, bbq, italian, salad bar, dessert bar. Service was friendly and attentive.

Hotel has several other restaurants, bars, gift shop, business center, movie theatre, arcade for the kids.

I ordered room service once and it came in about 30 minutes. A little pricey but very good. I played slots and had good luck on the penny machines. Hotel was built in 2005 and is in very good condition. Housekeeping took good care of me and kept me in towels, made the bed and left bath products.

About 4 miles south of the strip but an easy, quick drive if you have a car. I found other guests to be friendly also. Not your "strip" crowd.

They charged my CC a $100 incidental deposit with the unused funds returned as credited on the card 4 days after check-out.

Loved it, almost luxurious. I will return.

  • Liked — Fairly new, clean property. Rates.
  • Disliked — I had to leave and go home.

Don't be deceived : the South Point is not a classy hotel. Their non-smoking areas were poorly marked and very small, and complaints to the staff about such were literally mocked ("This is Las Vegas" -- oh, I didn't notice).

The staff didn't know their way around their own casino, and the advertised free shuttle to the strip was magically 'discontinued' just before our stay. Definitely a casino with hotel-like pretences -- they didn't seem to care about their guests at all.

A word of warning, I would not recommend this hotel for a first-timer in Vegas. The hotel is a 15 minute drive from Mandalay Bay, most southern of the bigger casinos on the Vegas Strip.

If you have a car or would not mind riding the bus, I would recommend the hotel. I have stayed at a number of hotels in Vegas and I can claim that the South Point was excellent. The rooms were ample and even large for comparable ones in its price range. There was a flat panel TV in our room. The bed was comfortable and the sheets were excellent. The bathroom was clean.

The buffet at the casino is nothing to get excited about, but was decent for the price. There are other restaurants in the casino, but we did not have a chance to eat there.

The hotel also has amenities for children and minors. There is a bowling alley that seems to be open 24 hrs and an arcade. There is also a bingo hall (We do not play bingo, so I can not comment on this aspect). There is also a heated swimming pool and a movie theater.

The only snag was that it took 30 minutes to check in. The front desk attendant claimed it was due to computers being down. I would not mind staying here again, although the commute to the center of the Vegas strip gets old after a while.
