“Not bad for the price”
Reviewed 2 September 2013

I recently stayed at the Golden Gate Hotel & Casino for 1 night, and I stayed here another time for a night. The rooms are tiny, but clean and modern looking. The beds are quite comfortable and soft. I requested a room away from Fremont, and I could only hear the noise very faintly until about 1 am. One good thing about this hotel is that the walls seem very thick. I never heard anything from other guests here. It has an intimate feel. No swimming pool or spa, but they now charge a $20 a night resort fee. Totally ridiculous and greedy. Overall, nothing special, but better than some Vegas hotels that classify themselves as 4 stars.

Thank you for reviewing your recent stay with us. While we did instate a new resort fee, we've also dropped our room rates in order to keep our prices competitive. Hopefully, we'll see you again in the future.

The Golden Gate casino is one of the older casinos on fremont street. It is very friendly and accommodating but its wear shows. However I believe Derrick Smith who redid Fitzgeralds will make that his next project. It still is a lot of fun there. I did not see the rooms because I did not stay there.

This is a review of the casino only. I loved playing blackjack here. Dealers were fun. Limits were low. Drink service was quick. It gets busy in the evenings which along with the dancing dealers creates a great atmosphere.

My favorite place in Vegas to play

The room was nice and clean with amenities (locker most importantly). The washroom was at substandards though. I would only suggest you can stay here if you are planning to spend your night at Fremont and then wish to switch hotel near strip next day, like I did. Its not a bad place to stay but you will not miss it either if can find other better deal around Fremont street. I didn't bother to stay here as I was hanging out till 5:00AM and only went to room to have 3-4 hours sleep. Its fifty fifty I would say.

Room Tip: Doesn't matter, you would be in Vegas. I am sure you wouldn't be spending most of your time...

The fee will almost double the cost of a room on Sunday - Thursday night. I paid $24. Once the Resort Fee starts, the room will be $44. For that price you can stay at almost any other Fremont-area hotel, all of which are significantly nicer.

The hotel was built in 1906. Rooms were added in 1924, and suites were added in 2012. Other than the suites, the walls of the rooms have a concrete/mortar-like appearance which hasn't changed since the early 20th century.

The rooms are very small (a little over 200 sq. ft.) but have new beds, end tables, HDTV, dresser/TV stand, carpet, and a cushioned chair. The air-conditioning doesn't quite do the job, as you'll find yourself sleeping with only a sheet (or less) due to the warm air.

The bathrooms look like something out of a 1940's hospital. Everything is clean, but the tub (in rooms that have one) was chipped and discoloured from decades of use.

Finally, live music plays from a stage outside until 1 AM (2 AM on Friday and Saturday nights). You will only be able to sleep if you have an "interior" room and earplugs.

Maids were very nice and they kept the place clean. They'll all be unemployed soon, however, if the new $20 Resort Fee stays in place.

I took my lady here for her first night in Vegas, she is European and we stayed in a Suite for $61 on a Sunday Night, and although downtown is seedy the stay was very nice. The lobby was old school Vegas which I loved, you can see the 1st telephone from Vegas here and some other artifacts. The room was on the 4th floor out of 5 and very quiet, nice (had some cool art of Dean Martin). the bathroom was nice 2 shower heads, 1 was rainfall style. Oh and a little mixing drink bar for entertaining with sectional leather sofa (which had a sleeper bed we didnt use). Fremont Street happened to have a free concert series all summer long on sundays and it was nice. Also I left my laptop with a lot of important documents in the room and realized across town at MGM 3 hours after the noon checkout, the Golden Gate Staff was kind enough to find it and hold on.

The staff are arrogant and the security grads think they are real policemen. I saw them trowing customers out. The street is full of homeless and they want to threat everyone the same. I will never spend a penny on this casino. We are the ones that keep this crapy place running. Avoid this casino and hotel They girls dancing to attack customers but little they know that they are going to be treated like crap

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Accurately billed as Las Vegas' "Most Historic Hotel," the Golden Gate has stood the test of time and then some. Since opening as the Hotel Nevada in 1906, this modest and cozy corner establishment has stood placidly at One Fremont Street while the town -- and the world -- changed around it. Most notably, the Fremont Street Experience was built right outside its door. Very little has changed to compromise the hotel's old school charm in the intervening years, although the Golden Gate has made improvements and modernized. The hotel remains proudly dwarfed by its neighbors, at just 106 rooms. The rooms themselves, on the other hand, have been updated and include modern amenities like flat screen televisions and iHome clock radios. The casino is just as active as opening day -- and just as intimate -- although now its boasts Dealer Dancers from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. nightly. Its shrimp cocktail -- widely acknowledged as the first ever served in Las Vegas -- is as popular as the day it was introduced. Even as Las Vegas builds toward the heavens, the Golden Gate keeps close to the ground, rooted in its rich and wildly successful history. ... more   less
