The price is worth small rooms! Had a great stay and all staff was very nice. Diner in hotel has absolutely the best pancakes ever! Only problem I experienced was the room I got was near the alley and the dumpsters were picked up everyday at 5am. Not good when you didn't get to sleep till 3am!

We landed in Vegas after midnight and made it to the Golden Gate around 2 a.m. Of course we were not going to sleep right away, but I went to bring our bags to the room before playing some keno in the casino. WOW. The music is SO LOUD I'd have never slept through that. THE BEDS ARE THE MOST COMFY BEDS EVER!!! Our room was a comp, so I don't care - but did have to put down $100 cash (or a credit card) which was returned the next morning upon checkout. Had $20 free play, and food comp at DuPar's. They have fabulous shrimp cocktail, and the reuben, avocado burger and french dip are all to die for. The atmosphere is a little kitschy and loud. GET THE SHRIMP COCKTAIL, it's $2.99 and sooooo yummy. We were so looking forward to gaming, loving our penny keno over there. This time, it was stubborn and the casino is so loud with the dancing girls and music that we returned for short stints only. We had more fun elsewhere this time. The cocktail waitresses are the best in Vegas - for sure, hands down. They come frequently and we know several of them. Appreciated the free room to crash in eventually - and I hear good things about the suites....but unless you are going to crash after the bandshell directly under your window is no longer hosting performers, don't buy a room here - unless it's a suite not facing fremont. Certainly an old Vegas classic and we will be back to see our friends!

Room Tip: Plan on passing out after 2 a.m. unless you have a suite not facing Fremont....or a free room.

We appreciate the feedback from your recent stay. If the music from Fremont Street tends to be too loud for some guests, we are happy to move them to a different room on the other side of the hotel, per availability. Thank you for the review and we hope you'll join us again for another round of shrimp cocktail soon!

We love Fremont Street and have stayed in just about every hotel on Fremont. My husband really wanted to try the Golden Gate, so I booked our stay through Expedia. On seeing our room for the first time, I was very disappointed. It was so small! No place for the suitcases! One chair, no table. There wasn't enough room for two people to walk around the bed. Bathroom was so tiny! Nowhere to set any toiletries. The shower water was scalding hot and was impossible to get to a tolerable temperature, even with the hot water turned completely off. The air conditioner was noisy and the dirty air gave both of us terrible sinus issues. After seeing the room, we immediately ask for a different room. We are not complainers, we will usually just tough it out, but I couldn't stay there. The front desk girl was rude and condescending. She wasn't willing to help us at all. After staying one night, we again tried to get a different room. Same girl, she was just as rude and refused to help. I called Expedia. Expedia tried working with the hotel, they just refused to help us. We ended up moving to the Plaza. We were so happy at the Plaza. The rooms are so much nicer. If you are looking at this hotel, book the Plaza instead. You won't regret it. FYI: Golden Gate charged a 20.00 resort fee. For that, you get sketchy wi-fi, and nothing else. Plaza charged a 12.00 resort fee, you get 2 waters daily, use of the pool, and great free wi-fi. We actually save money moving to the Plaza!

Thank you for bringing your negative experience with us to our attention and we apologize for the trouble you encountered during your stay. The rooms that are located closest to Fremont Street have been remodeled in a way to maintain the historical integrity, which is why the rooms are smaller than other rooms we have here. We appreciate the feedback regarding the facilities in the room and your experience with the Front Desk. We pride ourselves on offering excellent customer service and the interaction you had was not acceptable. Our resort fee includes Wi-Fi, local & toll-free calls as well as $10 off show tickets to the D Showroom at our sister property, the D. Again, we apologize for the inconveniences you encountered and we appreciate the review.

The staff was excellent. I stayed in a suite for $69/night. What a deal! The suites are large and modern. If you have any special requests just ask the front desk, they will accommodate. I couldn't find a room service menu. However just down stairs there is a 24-hour restaurant. I highly recommend the Golden Gate Hotel.

A lot more fun and upbeat than other DT Casinos. I love the golden nugget and it's nicer. But the GG is simply more action packed and cheaper. We had a great cocktail waitress too she was very friendly and deceptively fast. I just like the vibe at GG and will return.

The Golden gate has a wonderful rich history and they have done a terrific job of modernizing it. The casino is a fun an energetic place. The hotel room was very clean with new décor. The staff was very friendly. Their is a stage right outside the casino with great live bands performing.

Room Tip: A single queen is small but nice.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Accurately billed as Las Vegas' "Most Historic Hotel," the Golden Gate has stood the test of time and then some. Since opening as the Hotel Nevada in 1906, this modest and cozy corner establishment has stood placidly at One Fremont Street while the town -- and the world -- changed around it. Most notably, the Fremont Street Experience was built right outside its door. Very little has changed to compromise the hotel's old school charm in the intervening years, although the Golden Gate has made improvements and modernized. The hotel remains proudly dwarfed by its neighbors, at just 106 rooms. The rooms themselves, on the other hand, have been updated and include modern amenities like flat screen televisions and iHome clock radios. The casino is just as active as opening day -- and just as intimate -- although now its boasts Dealer Dancers from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. nightly. Its shrimp cocktail -- widely acknowledged as the first ever served in Las Vegas -- is as popular as the day it was introduced. Even as Las Vegas builds toward the heavens, the Golden Gate keeps close to the ground, rooted in its rich and wildly successful history. ... more   less
