“Never again”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 May 2013

We've stayed in this hotel a number of times over the years because of the location downtown but this would be the last time. This hotel has expanded so much over the years that you almost need a taxi to get from one tower to another. Staff & service are very good and the accommodations are also very good - bust again - another expensive hotel that sees the need to rip-off the customers by charging for Wi-Fi !
The downtown area has degenerated so much that I'm surprised families still feel safe wandering around past all the 'homeless" sitting in the middle of the streets and using the side alleys for their personal washrooms. Back to the strip for us !

After many years staying in Vegas always at the newest and greatest hotels on the strip you might want to give up "stripping" as I have. For my last three trips I've stayed at the Golden Nugget and enjoyed being able to walk across the way to The Horseshoe/ Binions/Sam Boyd's Freemont and the Four Queens as well as The D in minutes. Great value to reserve a Parlor suite in the Gold Tower (1 bedroom and bath plus large parlor with a full serving bar and 2nd full bathroom as well as VIP concierge privileges all for $169 a night with free parking! I entertained 20 reunion friends for happy hour in my suite nightly before we headed out for dinner --- take your pick of all the restaurants since the options are numerous and the prices are right. Went to the "Mob Museum" a short 2 walking blocks from The Golden Nugget tor a 3 hour inside tour experience which we all loved. Of course, there is the Freemont Street Experience Light show every hour at dusk every night. You need to see to believe and it's free... Fantastic. Walk out the hotel doors and there is lots to do and see with a minimum of walking - great for groups. Buffet is $10.99+tax and more than you can eat. Enjoy the downtown "Freemont Street Experience" and if you want to see the Gardens at the Belliago and Fountain at the Mirage or the Pirate ship at Treasure Island, take a cab for the evening and then back to Freemont for a reasonable lounge show and nightcap. The Pool is spectacular with shark tank and lounges in the water also so many comfortable areas to sit and enjoy the views if you don't care to dip in their heated pool(s).

Room Tip: For entertaining small groups for happy hour reserve a Parlor Suite in the Gold Tower. Other friends...

excellent location, clean, lots to do, the chart house a great fine dining restaurant. downtown is very entertaining, plenty of free shows, you can walk from casino to casino, unlike the strip. the pool area was wow, something to see.

Room Tip: rush, is the way to go

As a first time visitor to Las Vegas, we had a difficult time deciding among the myriad of choices, but a friend recommended the Golden Nugget because, to quote him, "The strip is nice, you need to see it, but the most fun is to be had downtown at the Fremont Experience". This was good advice, as we had a great time. We stayed 4 nights in the Gold Tower VIP rooms, and this was a good choice. The room, though dark, was well kept. I like the fact that the casino, which is compact and nice and has everything, is right off the elevator. We ate at Vic and Anthony's one night for one high-end meal, it was great. Carson Street Café is good for breakfast and lunch. The buffet restaurant did not knock me out, however, they need to work on that. The shark tank pool and water-slide are amazing. When we visited the strip, we found the hotels spectacular, but huge and cold, the Golden Nugget seemed more friendly and "old school" and we like that. We will be returning here, I hope sooner than later.

Room Tip: Stay in a room which is further away from the Fremont Experience, will be quieter for you.

First time doing an extended stay at the Nug, very impressed. There was 12 of us on a golf trip and stayed 4 nights in the Gold Tower. The rooms were clean and comfortable, lots of space and the Gold tower is close to pool and getting to and from the parking garage. The best part of staying downtown is the ability to go from casino to casino and during the weekend lots of action of all kinds on freemont, bands, booze....lovely ladies. A must at the Nug is eating at Vic & Anthony's, best steak house in Vegas, very pricey and worth every penny along with very attentive service. The buffet is great, can't beat a $11 breakfast and wide selection of items, dinner buffet was great as well
TIP: If drinking by the pool and charging to the room they want to see a picture ID
TIP:When checking in If you have a Landry's select card and not on a specilal rate or package already, you can request a room upgrade, the card also gives you points at Vic & Anthony's and Chart House, also in the Nug

We have been to Las Vegas on a number of occasions, we had always stayed on the strip, we decided to spend a couple of nights at the Golden Nugget before we moved on to Hawaii.
From start to finish our stay was great.
Our Rush Tower Corner Suite was really nice, it had modern furnishings and compares favourably with other hotels we had stayed at.
I love the general friendly feeling around the hotel, lovely staff.
The swimming pool is heated but beds are a bit cramped.
I will return, really loved it there.
We had buffet breakfast and lunch during our stay they were really good.

We stayed here for the last part of an organised tour that took in San Francisco, Los Angeles and Laughlin. The hotel is downtown on the Fremont Experience, quite a way from the Strip. There is however a good bus service ($8 for a day pass, $20 for 3 days) but it does take quite a while to get to the Strip. Rooms were clean and comfortable but there is a $12.99 daily charge for wifi. The area around the hotel is "loud". Lots of people partying from early morning to late at night but rooms on the upper floor were quiet. Lots of shops and restaurants to choose from. The GN Buffet restaurant was good value especially if you use the buy one get one free coupon. The casino area was very busy with gamblers/drinkers but I was surprised that smoking is still allowed in most areas causing discomfort to us non-smokers. Although I enjoyed my time here, if I go to Vegas again I will pay extra and stay in a hotel on the Strip.
