“Great pool!”
Reviewed 12 July 2010

We enjoyed our stay at the Golden Nugget. We were pleased with the rooms, especially considering that this is an older hotel. You wouldn't know it from the rooms, and we stayed in the older tower (the other one has been relatively newly renovated). The Golden Nugget is not on the strip, but on Fremont Street. It was cool to see the Fremont Street Experience. We just drove to the strip, because you can park for free at most of the casinos/hotels along the strip.

One of the main reasons we stayed here was because of the shark tank in the pool. According to several online sources, it is one of the top 10 hotel pools in the world. We thought the shark tank was pretty awesome. There are several varieties of sharks in the tank, and the waterslide that goes right through the middle of the tank. Would definitely recommend if you have kids or if you just like sea life like us.

We didn't come to gamble, but to see the sights, and we thought this was a good value for the price, a pretty good location in relation to everything (if you have a car), and a neat unique experience at the pool.

One of the negatives was the incredibly long line to check in and check out. It took at least 45 minutes each time. It would have been nice to have free wi-fi too...we went down the street to Krispy Kreme to use their free wi-fi.

We received a very generous free upgrade, so I cannot review a 'regular' room. I can report that the staff was uniformly friendly and professional, and that the hotel facilities are well-maintained. Public areas were notably clean.
One-of-a-kind pool is a great attraction.

My husband and I recently enjoyed a 3 night stay (7/4-7/7) at the Golden Nugget in downtown Las Vegas. We've stayed there many times before and would heartily recommend the hotel to our friends and family. Over the years there have been no problems to speak of until now. Their garage parking seemed to create such a problem during our stay that they were directing their guests to a remote overflow outdoor parking lot a block away. We were told the parking problem was due to a busy 4th of July weekend. However, as the days passed the situation didn't seem to improve much. Perhaps the hotel management didn't anticipate the need for additional parking when they built the new Rush Tower so now the garage can't accomodate the increase in hotel attendance. My advice is to reconsider using the remote parking lot (dimmly lit,no attendant) if schlepping all your luggage the extra distance causes a problem and use the valet parking instead. It's free.

I was surprised at how nice the rooms are here given the age of the resort. Our room had an excellent decor, the king bed was superbly comfortable, nice heavy wooden furniture, a flat screen television, double bathroom sinks, very cold A/C, and nice soft colorful carpeting.
The slots here, like most of the other downtown casinos, are more lucrative. The staff was always well at tentative. The buffet was the best I've had in Vegas. All hotel guests receive a coupon book. The book contains several specials including 2 for 1 buffets, free well drinks, free slot plays, and many discounts. Valet parking is free for quests also, however, there is a garage located just across the street. Quest park here free also.

This was our second visit to the Golden Nugget. Last year we stayed in a
Gold Club room. This year we stayed in the new Rush Tower. We arrived
Saturday at 2 o'clock to an empty check in counter and were warmly greeted and
helped by JP. The check in area and elevators are off the beaten path so it was
always less crowed and a quiet area. We stayed in room 8220 looking out over the
parking deck and the far off strip. It was not a great view but staying downtown we understood there are not a lot of great views although last year we overlooked the pool which was nice..
The room was very similar to the the Gold Club room in color, decorations and
furniture but with a much larger bathroom with a separate water closest.
We did miss a TV in there the Gold Club bathroom had a tv in the
mirror and very cool. The reports of the slippery bathtub are very true but
there was a rubber mat that I suggest everyone use. We did that the second day and
there after so really not a problem. The only issue for us that was
mentioned in other post to was the lack of electrical outlets near the bed if
anyone else has a CPAP machine. I had to pull out the night stand and unplug the clock
no big deal since we really didn't use the clock or the built in Ipod player
but an extra outlet or adapter would have been nice. I know we could have called
and possibly got an extension cord or something. The room overall was
comfortable, very clean and as quiet as any hotel room can be except for the
occasional slam of a door or loud people talking as they walked down the hall past our room. Maid service was preformed efficiently everyday with plenty of
towels and toiletries. Golden Nuggets staff was always pleasant, very helpful
and they would stop and talk a minute with you. Casino has a good vibe with very good cocktail service. We play video poker and the selection was not great but 21 and craps tables were great fun. Did not eat at any of the on site restaurants this year but heard good things from other folks. Pool is great but yes crowded with kids so we skipped this year no big deal for us. The one thing we noticed at most casinos was the kids this year hanging out, Serveral youngsters were helping their father play video pokier in the
Golden Nugget Casino, what a shame and where was security. Overall our second visit was a very pleasant experience again. In the future if we stay downtown we would definitely chose the Golden Nugget but probably stay in the Gold Club room and pass on the Rush Tower unless the prices were crazy between the too..

Decent property with good service and selection in dining. Stay away during the summer months if you dont have children, I thought I had got on the wrong plane and ended up in Disneyland, what do people do with their kids in Vegas, teach them how to gamble? The pool was PACKED with families with kids, never went near it. The Rush tower is very nice with contemporary decor. The Steakhouse was good but doesnt warrant a #2 rating for Vegas, Ive had better steaks elsewhere, the Sea Bass was very good.

The good, bad and whoa........................

We stayed at the Las Vegas Golden Nugget with family (including two teenagers) over the long 4th of July weekend.

Overall I can only muster three stars.

Hotel- five stars, very clean and great staff. Room was better than expected. Very nice and all they promised. VIP, Valet Parking, etc all very nice and attuned to your needs.

Casino was very nice. Excellent staff.

The negative. The hotel entertained a very large party Friday night and closed the pool for the afternoon and evening with no notice! The noise was too load and too long

The pool has turned into a party pool for the young. We met our grandchildren and expected to stay in by the pool all day Saturday. HaHaHa - absolutely no room and very rambunctious young crowd doing a lot of drinking. This continued through Sunday and Monday. The adult pool was “sold out” all the time we were there. Management could have cared less.

Food - TWO STARS. GN needs to wake up and smell the coffee real soon. Ate at the buffet and wow. They moved it upstairs and the food is medicare at best. Looks like the Landry Family is using real restaurant control to run the buffet and other restaurants. Selection was half what it was downstairs. So called Prime Rib was a dried out old piece of beef, tough and no flavor. Food was warm, not hot for both dinner and breakfast.

The same for the Carson Street Café. Cut the menu in half and took away all the good stuff to foods for the masses. No more bowl of wanton, no more shrimp-crab Louie, etc. And the staff could care less if you have a VIP line pass or not and the service is not on par with the Carson Street Café I remember. Long waits between seating, ordering and getting your food. And they were not busy. Go figure.

We also dined at Vic and Anthony’s A little high for what you get but the food and service was great.

Would I return? Probably not. Other hotels have the same deals with better amenities, especially the pools and better dining experiences. (MGM, Mandalay Bay, and others).
