Great place to visit with nice people. Still carries Old Las Vegas charm though. If you are a video poker player, and you get a four of a kind, press your change light and a change person brings you a scratch card that is worth anything from $1 - $5000. That's REALLY nice. If you are downtown, this is just an extra 5 minute walk. The buffet smells yummy too. :)

Stayed at the Main Street Station Hotel as part of a group trip for a week in Las Vegas centred on the Rugby Sevens tournament. The hotel is in Downtown (think classic Las Vegas) rather than the 'Strip' where many of the modern hotel/casinos and their shows are. You can get to the Strip by bus or taxi in less than half an hour. The hotel rooms are a little old in decor (so no flat screen TV, Internet, bit short on mains sockets) but were clean and well maintained. The bed was comfortable (I prefer a firmer bed rather than a marshmallow) and despite some traffic noise I slept well. Hotel has a really good buffet restaurant with a range of international food that was rally good value. It also has a 'Brew Pub' or microbrewery with some good, award winning beers although these were a little rich for my taste. Buffet and Pub can be busy at peak times and you may need to queue. You can expect to pay a lot less here for good food and drink than hotels on the Strip. It proved to be a good base for visits to the Strip, the Rugby Sevens (staff helpful in booking group transport) and out to locations such as the Grand Canyon. Not really a gambler, so can't comment on the Casino aspect - but get the free 'Connect' card from the Casino that gives you a small discount at the buffet.

Thank you to the friendly and helpful staff at the Mainstreet Station Hotel and Casino. Everyone from the bellmen, B Connected desk, hostess and wait staff at hae buffet, waitresses at Triple 7, cage attendents, runners, housekeeping staff and restroom attendants were friendly and helpful. They were accomodating, and did not hesitate to provide great customer service. Actually there was only one worker that didn't seem to enjoy her job. She was the asian, pit boss at the craps table. No smile, just a grouchy, no patience kind of attitude. That's ok. One worm did not ruin our experience, but a great BIG thank you to everyone else. We'll be back in October!

Main Street Station is our favorite hotel in town. Rates are very reasonable, and there is ample free parking in their ramp right outside the North Entrance. The casino has good machines and decent table games. The triple 7 brewpub has the best beer in all LV, and the garlic fries and chicken wing appetizers are must tries as well. It is a 1 1/2 block walk to Fremont street (all indoors except crossing one street). The rooms are actually the weakest part of the whole property, and they aren't bad. They are attractive and furniture is nice. The TV's are old and channel selection is not great. Louvered blinds with no curtains are fine with me but do let some light in. Traffic noise from the freeway is pronounced in rooms on the North side of the building (even # rooms). There is railroad noise on the south side, but not nearly as bad as the traffic noise. The view to the south from the higher floors is very nice. (Try going out on the outside stairwell at night for the best view.) The hotel is close to the new performing arts center and a premium outlet mall.) It's also only two blocks from the IRS building!! There is no fitness center or pool. (can use the Cal's pool)

Room Tip: South side higher floors, smallest room # are furthest from noise.

Only criticisms were no coffee making machine in the room and totally naff choice of tv stations and the noise from the railway.
Very good beer at great prices too. Very good buffet and meals in the Brewery restaurant - great value- saved a fortune on Strip prices.
