“Pleasantly surprised”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 July 2014

The last time we went to Vegas, we stayed at the MGM in what could have been the tiniest (and loudest) room ever. Upon exploring, we found that the table minimums at NYNY were $10 compared to $25 at MGM. So, we decided that if we ever came back to LV, we would give NYNY a try. We took the hotel up on their offer to stay for $65 night in a Madison Room the week of the 4th.

Here's what I have to say about it:
The Pros:
The room itself was great. Very large with nice accommodations. The bathroom is a tad outdated with brass fixtures, but this is certainly not a deal breaker. The toilet scared me to death every time I flushed it because it had enough suction and force to take me with it! Other than that, I found the room to be great. It had a strip view and we never heard a sound from the strip. That, in itself, was worth the price of admission...especially after hearing every siren and horn when staying at the MGM.

The hotel is not near as large as some of the others and traveling back and forth to the room was easy. We stayed in the Century Tower, which is centrally located in the hotel.

We ate at most of the restaurants while we were there. All were good. The Italian restaurant was good - the service the first night was fantastic...the last night...not so much, but its okay. We also ate at Chin Chin, Broadway Burgers and the Mexican restaurant.

I loved Nine Fine Irishmen - great place to get a drink.

We are also MLife members and when we checked out, the hotel had comped our stay, so all we owed was for taxes and some of our meals. So that was awesome!!

The cons:
The pool is on the smaller side and doesn't see the sun until around 11 am.
The foodcourt was expensive.
Its crazy cold inside the casino! Its 115 outside, and 55 inside!
Tried to log on to the free wireless and gave up. I don't think that they should charge you for something that you can't use. But, since the stay was comped, I will forgive them.
Our room was smoke free, but the hallways smelled really strong of cigarettes. I did not like this. I think that our neighbors did not abide by the smoke free room rules.

It all boils down to what you are wanting out of your Vegas experience. If you want posh and sophisticated, this is NOT the hotel for you. If you want laid back and casual, this is your place. Like I said earlier, we stayed at the MGM during our last trip and I actually prefer NYNY to that. But, its all in what you are wanting. We will come back and stay at the NYNY again.

Room Tip: The Madison room was large and quiet.

Dear GoEagles323,

Thanks you for offering such a detailed travel review on TripAdvisor! Thorough commentary of this nature is invaluable, as it helps us identify those areas where we are meeting success, and others that require a certain measure of improvement. We’re glad you liked your spacious hotel room, the festive atmosphere of Nine Fine Irishmen, and the many comps received due to your Mlife membership. Serving you was an absolute pleasure, one we hope you’ll allow us to perform again the next time you’re in town. See you soon!

Sincerely,

Lori P.

Arrived early and for a small fee we got early check in and a room with a frat view of the strip. The room was very good, the bathroom a little confined but otherwise very good. The hotel is well located with some good snack places in it. The staff were friendly and the check in clerk was exceptionally nice, and had some souvenirs for my kids. I would defiantly stay in the ny ny again.

I do gamble here regularly when I'm in Vegas. Like the atmosphere and have had really good luck on the tables. Usually stay at Aria or TheHotel or Vdara or similar. Needed something in a pinch over the 4th of July weekend, and with my usuals sold out, NY, NY seemed like a decent choice.

Was supposedly put into an upgraded room (due to my Mlife status). If that was an upgraded room, I can't even begin to imagine what a regular room is like. It was fine and all, but tiny, no refrigerator, no microwave, etc. Those things are pretty standard these days. Heck, even Motel6's have them!

The Internet......my god, it's attrocious. Horrid. It's provided through the Cox Hospitality Network, which serves many Vegas hotels, but never have I seen Internet this slow at any of the other properties. It was completely unusable, and I just stuck my phone in the window and used that, for reasonably quick 4G.

Room Tip: Book another hotel?

My boyfriend and I stayed 2 nights (not in a row) in this hotel. The rooms we had was clean and cozy. The first one had a great view (room 1065) but the second view was a brick wall (room 777). Check in was not very quick but the service was perfect. This hotel is perfect for a short stay and it's very cheaper than other hotel in the strip.

Just stayed at the New York New York in Vegas and was just so-so. If you are looking a for a average stay in Vegas this is a good choice. I got a deal on Booking.com for 65 dollars a night for a 3 night stay with a 35 dollars Food/Drink credit. The catch is the credit was for limited choices to bars or Starbucks. Which for me was fine to have my coffee and bagel or toasted sandwich. Easy to catch monorail to go up and down the strip, just cross over to the MGM. I say pick this hotel if you can get a good deal otherwise pick somewhere else.

Stayed here on our honeymoon. Had pre booked special strip view room with travel agent with all fees and taxes included (we double checked). At check in tried to say taxes hadn't been paid and also get us to pay resort fee. Then said there was no strip room available. V poor and after a long trip we weren't happy. Took a while to get them to give us what we had booked. View from room was ok although had adjoining door to next room where sound travels really easy.

It's in Vegas, so of course it's going to be ridiculous, but a roller-coaster??? If Disney did NY then they'd have made this hotel.

The hotel itself is great, it obviously has the obligatory huge casino, restaurants and bars on the ground floor, but despite the size of it the public areas were kept surprisingly clean. The room was very clean and comfortable, and if you time your visit right can be very cheap. I timed my visit right. And it has a roller-coaster around the outside.

The staff were ok, not particularly friendly but polite and very professional.

It's slap-bang on the strip so once you manage to find an exit you're in the middle of the action, everything's in walking distance, but if the heat gets too much you can hop over the road and catch the mono-rail.

If you decide to eat in there's a big choice of bars and restaurants, and I think you might be able to find somewhere to gamble...
