“Kinda glad we stayed here...”
Reviewed 17 August 2014

We were ending the first leg of our Road Trip in Vegas and booked the NYNY. We've never been to Vegas before...and had "TV" expectations...and they were kinda met.

It's not really a place for kids is it? There's nowhere to sit and have a coo, drink without having to have a meal if you have kids. Strolling "up the strip" involves countless detours into hotels and shopping centres...irritating.

Having a teenage daughter with us...at least the NYNY had a few distractions and was less "pretend pompous" than some of the hotels. The pool was nice...especially in the morning when in shade...and the eateries downstairs were varied. The room was very clean and serviced well...quiet modern. Comfy beds.

The NY Times Square bar is fun with the duelling pianos in the evening.

This place was cheap as chips.....so you can't complain. I'd consider it again if I had kids with me in Vegas....which is a very remote possibility...not NYNY's fault...just not a place for them.

Dear weleasewobin:

Although we thank you for allowing us to introduce you to Las Vegas, we’re disappointed to learn that your time spent here did not meet your expectations.

The Big Apple Coaster & Arcade, Hershey’s Chocolate World, and Nathan’s Famous Hot Dogs, are just a few of the family-friendly attractions available here on property. On behalf of the entire team at New York-New York, we apologize for any inconvenience, and hope for an opportunity to create a better experience for you and your family in the future.

Sincerely,

Lori P.

Stayed here for a wedding 2 nights. Great variety of stores. Pillowtop mattresses. View of strip. Dont even notice roller coaster. Shampoo conditioner soaps provided but no refills 2nd day. Resort fees suck... 24$ a day and the wifi is horrible signal. Ac keeps rooms nice and cool in Vegas heat.

First stay at New York New York. Wonderful experience and I do mean wonderful. Room was upgraded without the $20 sandwich trick....although husband did try and it was returned and since front desk noticed it was a "special trip" they put us in the same class room with a Strip View, Strip View was an understatement, you could look south to the airport and to the north up to Planet Hollywood before City Center blocked the view. Corner room with extra space in room and bathroom. Yes you can hear the roller coaster but it stops at around 12AM. Restaurants a plenty and new Hershey's store had all kinds of delectable goodies. Walking distance to MGM Grand, Tropicana, Excalibur, Monte Carlo (which has a hallway that goes directly to Aria off the store area as well as a free tram to City Center, Vdara and Bellagio). Slot Machine aplenty (Wizard of Oz of almost all types). Tried new ones we don't see in local Indian casinos and enjoyed the classic TV Batman, Wheel of Fortune with the 3 wheels, Video Poker at bars and on floor. Players club very helpful as somehow my mlife card had an incorrect email address on it and they linked my husband and mine together. Only issue is it was a short stay and after first night housekeeping never showed up even though we told the floor maid we were going to be gone for several hours and to make up the room. Had plenty of towels so it wasn't more than a one star reduction. We have a bad history with that at CET properties so it seems the unions have an issue. Reviews of pool say it's small but we didn't seem to think it was that small. Entry is at 3' and goes down to 4.5' in the middle where the volleyball net is. Nice jacuzzi...word to the wise here...sun doesn't clear anything until around 11:30am so plan for lot's of shade until afternoon. Drink service was very prompt at tables and at slots. Staff was very friendly. Overall we will return to this hotel and remember the very nice short stay we had. Next time we will see if we can stay longer and hit up Gallagher's...those dry aged meats looked wonderful.

The room:
Our room was at the corner of the hotel facing the strip and part of the roller coaster. It was a VERY long walk from the elevator!!! We can also hear screaming from the roller coaster but I was fine with it. The curtains are great because they block out all the sun light when you try to sleep in!!! The room was clean and comfortable but I thought they can modernize the design a bit to make it look less bulky (but that is just mine opinion). The bathroom was good size and it was very clean! The only cons of the rooms that I can think of are: lack of free fridge (I think it was $25/day to rent it) and no free bottle of water (like Monte Carlos). These were not a big issue just a bit inconvenience. I also don't really hear any one else around me!! IT is a great bonus!

The casino design?:
So I have been to many of the hotels and I have to say, I love the high ceiling of the casino area! It feels much more open compared to some other hotels!

Food court+food:
I definitely love it!!!! I know every hotel has a little food court and the food is similar...but truly, hands down to NYNY! This is the only food court I have been (I have gone to about at least 10) that does not have the feel of a food court!! Sometimes in the morning, I even feel like I was in New York!! The clam chowder at the Fulton Fish market is pretty good and the family meal is a steal! But make sure you are prepared to eat all those fried food!! Their hush puppies are awesome! The hot dog place (dog is very normal although very long), Gonzalez Y Gonzalez (the service is a meh~ and got gas problem after eating, and America (the mac and cheese is like the ones that come out of a Kraft box) are so so. Greenwich cafe (I think that is what is called) breakfast is decent and their pastrami sandwich is a killer! Chin Chin was pretty good but I liked Dragon Noodle Co at Monte Carlos better. I past by the aged beef display every day and one day I will try them!!!!! Do not go to the pretzel stand that is right at the exit to the MGM air bridge!!! IT was very bad pretzel and I regret buy it!!! Il Fornaio (the cafe not the restaurant) has some great breakfast choices (I ate half of my breakfast there) if you want a quick bite and running out of the door. Their soup and sandwich is pretty good for lunch but their salad serving is a bit on the small side.

Convenience:
It has two air bridges: one goes to MGM and other goes to Excalibur (which connects to Luxor and Mandala Bay). It is also right next to Monte Carlos more toward the south end of the stripe. I think it is a good location because there are free connections from Monte Carlos to Bellagio's.

Room Tip: If you want a room with view, request it!!!

Dear Tktk_543:

You are spot on! The Village Street Eateries are an unconventional take on the traditional casino food court. Guests can discover a variety of tempting foods amidst a Greenwich Village-style neighborhood.

You truly are a New York-New York expert. We hope to continue to reinvent ourselves, providing opportunities to surprise and delight you during future visits.

Stayed at the New York New York for three nights. When we arrived and went to get checked in, the woman said that our room was not ready for another few hours and asked us to upgrade for so much extra a night, after us saying no to an upgrade, our room was suddenly ready...
Once we got up to our room there was a smell of cannabis in the room. Not constant however.
After house keeping had been, we popped back to the room to find the bed sheets were dirty...
The wifi was extremely slow and failed to load emails.
The pool area was nice however it was in a bad location as the sun went down behind the car park in the early afternoon. The pool wasn't very deep either, only 4 and half feet.
Wouldn't recommend and wouldn't stay again.

My boyfriend and I came to vegas from the UK on a special holiday as we normally stay in Europe so to us we paid a lot more money than usual so we had very high expectations! We certainly were not let down by vegas or the hotel, words cannot describe how we felt when we first saw the hotel...it was amazinggggg!

But then as we checked in we were checked in by a member of staff that wasn't very helpful or welcoming...he didn't offer us a chance to pay for an upgrade (which we would have done as we had researched the spa suites) he gave us our key cards and that was it....no real welcome to the hotel from any members of staff for the entire week...and checkout was electronic so no Thankyou for staying either.

The room was also a bit of a let down after seeing how fancy the rest of the hotel was...I mean it was fine, it just wasn't very special and like I say we'd paid a lot so we had higher standard than normal!

Loved Vegas though!

If you are looking for an affordable clean and modern place to stay this is the place. This hotel is suitable for all. The pool is not big. The area is great because you have many things in walking distance. Would recommend to anyone looking for a clean but affordable place to stay.
