We had three nights booked at the Orleans for a getaway vacation to Las Vegas. I was apprehensive about staying off the strip, but because of all the great reviews we decided to give the Orleans a try. The worst thing was mid morning, we stepped into the elevator to go down stairs and immediately smelled a foul smell. Well, there was human diarhea on the elevator floor. We alerted a janitor who didn't make a huge effort to clean it up. Discusting. This could have been a freak thing, but it was still gross.

Well, we checked out after the first night and headed to NYNY on the strip(which was the perfect location.) If you have been to Vegas numerous times and are simply looking to gamble, not sight see, this is a good choice, But if you are a small town girl like me and looking for that great, wow, experience this hotel just didn't have it. The decor was bright, but looked a little cheezy. The room was larger than our room at the nyny but nothing special. We ate breakfast at the buffet which was alright, eggs were horrible though. It did have some wonderful french pastries and a little pastry counter to order from. We were disappointed at the amount of table games, they only had a couple of poker tables and no texas hold em which we won and had a blast playing at other hotels. We bowled and that was fun, but other than that, this hotel is far from the strip and that is really where you want to be on a vegas vacation. The shuttle did work for us, but in the end we regretted getting an off strip hotel.

Hard to find fault with this great value hotel. The bottled water is inexpensive, the liquor store is inexpensive, the restaurants are inexpensive, you get the drift. It's really easy to get a drink at this hotel, and the service people are actually friendly and helpful, not like some of the posh hotels on the strip! I started out every morning with a bloody mary oyster shooter at Big Al's. Check this place out, you'll love it! Then over to Brendans Irish Pub for some beers & some games. The only real drawback to the place is that is too far off strip. The cab fares add up. Also, the complaints about the pool are correct. The hotel building is L-shaped and it manages to block the sunlight on the pool for 90% of the day. Overall a decent place to stay, I would definately go back!

We have just returned from spending 12 nights at the Orleans and had a fantastic time. We have been to Las Vegas 5 times now and have previously stayed on the strip. The rooms a larger than you get from the hotels on the strip and are very comfortable and clean. The maid service was excellent. There is plenty to do at the hotel with a 70 lane bowling alley and a multi cinima complex on site. The casino area is huge with plenty of choices of machines and a good size poker room. The check-in and out process was very smooth and efficient. They give you a book of discount vouchers when you arrive which can save you a few dollars. We had a hire vehicle which I would recommend as it gives you more flexibility to get round. The hotel does provide a courtesy bus that takes you to the strip but we did not use this. A good tip is to drive into any of the main hotels on the strip and use the valet parking, for a couple of dollars it is well worth it and a lot less hassle. Another tip is the prices for the buffet breakfast dramatically increase on Sunday mornings so it is a lot cheaper to go to one of the local diners instead. Would recommend the Blue men show at the Venetian hotel, very different and very entertaining. Would definately go back again.

  • Liked — It was large and very clean and comfortable
  • Disliked — Nothing
  • Tips/Secrets — Hire a car and use the valet services at the strip hotels for a couple of dollars it is well worth it.

My husband and I just returned from our stay at the orleans for out 17th anniversary, and we were impressed. I have been to vegas with my sister many times, and been spoiled at the Mandalay Bay, but my hubby has never been, and our budget is much smaller than my sisters. We chose the orleans after reading all the positive posts here, and took advantage of the fact that they will match any price that they can verify. They matched a price that we found on travelworm, and that saved us almost a $100!!! The rooms are huge!! Beds are comfy, showers are hot, everything was clean!!! We had a non-smoking room that truly smelled non-smoking. I was prepared with a candle, just in case.

My biggest complaint would be that the doors are a little thin, and you can hear other peoples doors shutting down the hall, but it wasnt bad enoung to make me not want to go back. Staff was relatively friendly, but ladies in the gift shop were pretty cranky, and waitresses in the cafe not very attentive, but all in all our visit was a blast, and we would definately return.

Stayed for one night and would recommend it. Off the strip but still a very nice casino. Very good price and there is a shuttle to Barbary Coast which is central strip if you don't have a car. Only downside is pool closes at 6pm so could not take advantage of it. Don Miguel's mexican restaurant is very good. The staff was also very accomodating and friendly.

  • Liked — Great value for the price
  • Disliked — Pool closed too early
  • Tips/Secrets — Will price match so keep looking on other web sites.

Our recent trip to Vegas was great. The Orleans was just as nice as others had said and you can't beat the price. The rooms were spacious and clean. The view of the city was exceptional especially at night. We liked the small window in the shower to let fresh air in and take out the humidity from the shower. The maid service cleaning the rooms was very good. They even made us check our key to prove it was our room when we came back and they were cleaning. We were very happy to see that because anyone could have been coming in our room.

We liked the security downstairs where you had to show your room key to ride the elevators.

Lots of places to eat. Buffet breakfasts at the French Market were great and for about $6.50 each you couldn't beat it. Breakfast at Courtyard cafe was more individually priced items and more expensive.

Dinner at Sazio's was great. The lasagna dinner was hugh and delicious. It was about 1/2 of a 13 x 9 pan that I would make at home.

Went to see the Blue Man Group and loved it. Just don't buy the drinks. $5 water, $6.50 Beer, $15 mixed drink. But the show was great. Didn't need the earplugs they were giving out.

We stayed at the Orleans because of the price and since we are not big gamblers we were planning 2 side trips. One to Hoover Dam (after it reopened because of a crane falling) and an overnight trip to the Grand Canyon. Both were excellent.

Since we rented a car we decided to drive and stay overnight at the Canyon. It took about 4 1/2 to 5 hrs. It was a very easy drive once you get out of Vegas. We stayed at the Yavapie Lodge. It reminded you of a dormitory. The rooms were really a lot nicer than we expected. Also very clean. You had to drive to the rim or take a shuttle, which was very conveniently located right outside.
The food at the little food court by room registration was not very good, but we were starved.

Anyone not visiting the canyon at least once in their life doesn't know what they are missing. It's breathtaking. We loved that it was not all commercialized with bill boards and signs, etc. Just natural and beautiful. It was extremely windy and chilly when we were there 9/20/06. The trails down are great, getting back up is another story. You just have to base your hiking on your physical ability.

The wildlife we saw there and on our drive there was amazing. Prong horn sheep, elk, mule deer, squirrels, chipmunks, etc.

As for Vegas it was great to see. Using the Orleans as our base camp worked out well. We will definitely go back. You can't beat the Orleans, but you must see Hoover Dam and the Grand Canyon.

Our travel group of four "girls" chose the Orleans based on the reviews at this website. We stayed five nights starting Oct. 1. We had two adjoining rooms. We asked for connecting rooms, but we were told that they didn't have them. Like a lot of other reviewers we felt the rooms were large, well furnished and clean. Toiletries include soap, shampoo, conditioner and body lotion. We especially enjoyed the sitting area by the window which overlooked the pool and the mountains in the distance. One charming feature was the small window over the tub with a rose engraved on it. This window actually opened. The only things missing from the room are an inroom safe and a chain on the door. Our entire floor was nonsmoking. Maintenance is ongoing. We saw a painter on our floor painting around the elevator entrance. I got up early the first morning, and saw a street cleaning machine cleaning the driveway. You could spend your entire vacation at the Orleans, because they have everything you need.
We used the free shuttle every day to go to the Strip and return to the Orleans. Once or twice we had to wait ten minutes or so, but most of the time we waited one or two minutes. We used the Barbary Coast Hotel/Casino as our base on the Strip. They have clean restrooms, a small casino, and a small, quiet restaurant in the back called the Victorian Room.
