I like the location right on the strip. Housekeeping did a very nice job. The rest of the service was average. Nothing outstanding good or bad. Ordered continental breakfast for room service, kind of a joke. The fruit plate had half of a sliced strawberry as an item. Really? Half of a strawberry?

Room Tip: We chose not to be strip side and had a nice view of the mountains from the 21st floor

When booking my holiday to Las Vegas I wanted somewhere Affordable and in a great location, Having looked at the MGM, Luxor and New York New York (right next door) I came across the Monte Carlo. It doesnt have the big Theme some of the other Resorts have however, for the price and location it was great.
Restaurants, shops and a big casino are all pluses on my trip to Vegas. For the price I couldn't have asked for more,

Stayed here 06-14 May for my wife's birthday with another couple.

Booked a high strip view room, other couple booked a standard room.
Had asked about upgrading as our friends emailed & asked the same. They were given a high strip view room with VIP access. We were given nothing, not even from email request or at the check in desk when doing the $20 trick ( google it ). Check in person took the 20 & offered nothing despite this. Friends arrived, given VIP treatment, although you still get coffee in a paper cup there, sov very dissapointed as we were then separated as a group.

Average room, but clean. Mediterranean style & a bit dated but OK. Usual casino & could use my MLife card which made no difference. Some average bars & restaurants in here, but $8 for a beer when casinos down the strip a block or so offer $1 bottles. Across the road at Walgreens you can get cheap beers & that is what most people seemed to be doing.

Buffet was OK, but again lukewarm & sometimes dry food that had been cooked way too long & left all day on the warm serving counter. Was still the same stuff in the evening.

They added a room resort tax of $22 a day & tax of $19 a day in addition to the room cost. Other hotels in the area are far superior for less money & don't have these added costs on top of the room. There is no wifi other than on the ground & first floor which is part of the resort tax you pay. The other costs it covers are for 2 bottles of water in the room & a free newspaper.

It was OK but I will not stay in this hotel again, due to the resort tax & attitude of some of the staff here. There are better & cheaper hotels in the area.

Oh yes, $72 for 5 beers & 2 frozen drinks by the pool. Dick Turpin had the decency to wear a mask!

Room Tip: High strip view room

Dear jonboywalton,

It’s unfortunate to learn that your stay with us fell short of expectations, especially during a special occasion like your wife’s birthday. We appreciate your candor, and will reexamine our practices in order to provide our guests with an exceptional resort experience going forward.

Sincerely,

This is the 2nd time we've stayed at the Monte Carlo. It's also the 2nd time we've booked the Spa Suite. I've broken this review into sections - hopefully this will help you with your stay decision.

Getting the room: We booked the room early - about 6 months in advance through another website (not directly related to the hotel). We paid up front for the room and got an amazing rate. You should book early as the rates are much cheaper then. We chose the Spa Suite as we've had it before (reviewed further down).

Check-In: Check in for us was extremely easy. We got to the Monte Carlo around 10:30 and took a chance checking in. We left our luggage with the bell desk to be delivered later. We were pleasantly surprised to find out our room was ready. The spa suites are really nice - the room itself has a bar in it (not stocked), a large walk-in shower (no tub), and a 2-person jacuzzi right up against the window in the bedroom (studio style). There is a couch and a couple chairs in the room as well.

TIP: Ask for a spa suite where the 2-person jacuzzi faces the south end of the strip. The Mandarin Oriental hotel (next door) sticks out too far to see the north part of the strip, so if the 2-person jacuzzi in your room is facing north, you don't have too much of a view.

Our room was not without its flaws though. It's partly a Monet - if you look close, you'll see issues. There was wallpaper peeling in places, and missing in others. A couple of our light switches didn't work properly. They were cleaning windows the week we were there and they requested us to keep our shades drawn each day between 7am-5pm. We took the spa suite specifically for the view! That being said, for the price we paid for this room, the small issues were easily forgotten.

The casino: The Monte Carlo has a great casino. It's smaller than other hotel casinos, but has a great mix of games and table games.

The restaurants: The Monte Carlo has great restaurants. We were NOT impressed with the buffet, but did eat at a few of the restaurants and all were great. And all of them take the mLife card for tier credits, so make sure you present it to your server if you go.

The location: The Monte Carlo is located at the south end of the strip, adjacent to the Mandarin Oriental and New York, New York, diagonally across from the MGM Grand. There is a "secret" tram that goes from the Monte Carlo to the Bellagio, also stopping at the Vdara. You can also walk through to the Aria from the Monte Carlo. I would say the location is good, not great. I prefer being further up the Strip, but it's definitely not hard to get further up, either by bus or by the tram and some walking.

The pool: The Monte Carlo has a great pool, complete with both a lazy river and a wave pool. The Pub, a restaurant in the hotel, serves the pool and has great food.

Overall: We're happy with the Monte Carlo and would not be opposed to stay here again, but only if we get another great deal on our room.

Room Tip: I suggest the Spa Suite, and make sure you ask them for a suite where the 2-person jacuzzi faces the south end of the strip.

The Monte Carlo really just wants your money. They don't care about customer service at all. When we checked in we we're given an ok room-nothing special really. We were hanging out In the room and the door was opened by two girls who thought it was their room. Apparently keys were issued to them for our room. I called the front desk and basically was called a liar. Upon my insistence we were moved to the 21 floor. That night it was clear my friends bed was broken so we went again to the desk to complain. The agent didn't say anything to me as he fired me new keys for a room on the 7th floor. I told him I wanted to check the room first before I moved yet again, he said "ok". We went to that room and it was worse than the one we were in. Angry I went to my room and phoned to speak to a supervisor. After being on hold for ten minutes I spoke with her and she was finally apologetic. She moved us to the hotel 32, which is the renovated 32 floor. The room was nicer for sure, and there was a private lounge for guests of that floor. I guess ultimately we wound up having a good room but after moving twice and really not feeling like the staff cared at all it left a bad taste in my mouth. I still had to pay my ridiculous resort fees and was not comped anything. The only people who we had a good experience with was the excellent bell hops.

Room Tip: Pick another hotel

Dear Kli1981,

We apologize for the unfortunate room assignment complications encountered at check-in. Incidents of this nature are unusual, and certainly not in keeping with our unwavering commitment to exemplary service. We are grateful to learn that the complimentary upgrade to Hotel32 helped improve your stay, and hope that despite the challenges encountered, you’ll consider visiting us again in the future.

Sincerely,
