My brother and I were finishing up a road trip west coast USA with a trip to Vegas for 3 nights. It was our first time being here so to be honest we had our hopes set pretty high after everything you see and hear about the place.

However the one thing they don’t tell you about is the smell. This was the only place we stayed in that we felt didn’t live up to our expectations at all. When we arrived we thought it was just the amount of people etc that was the cause but eventually we realised what it was. The hotel smells like the inside of a nightclub that has a carpet floor – stale drink and cigarettes. They also then add in some scent to the ventilation to try cover it up but this just makes it worse. There’s only so much I can give out about the smell but it was so off putting and out of all the others we went into (Ceasers, MGM, New York etc) none of them had a smell.

But onto the positives. First is first. Big shout to the guy on the concierge, think his name was Preston, this guy is what a concierge should be. We are involved in hotels ourselves so we can recognise when someone does his job well and this guy just knew what we wanted and how to deal with us. Advised us first to go to a show ‘Tournament of Kings’ in the Excalibur. He then said if we wanted to have a great time (not just a good time) we’d want to be in the dragon section as “it’s always more fun to cheer for the bad guys” and also to get pretty drunk beforehand. He knew we were there for the banter and wanted to get stuck into a show. He then gave us vouchers for other events etc. Essentially he made our last night in Vegas. We also had a problem with the safe that was sorted within 10 minutes.

The room was pretty nice, 29th floor and three doors down from the elevator. View of the strip was decent too as we weren't facing the Aria/ Cosmopolitan. Pool area is quite cool also. We didn’t want to queue for the huge dayclubs so this suited us down to the ground! It’s basically just like an adult playground and there’s good fun in the current pool.

All in all I’d like to say I’d stay here again but the smell just ruined it for me.

Room Tip: We were on the 29th floor facing away from the Aria/ Cosmopolitan and had a pretty decent view!

Plans changed and we booked a last minute trip to the Monte Carlo for some fun in the sun. We had stayed there before (3 times) but never in the summer. The staff was nice as always and we enjoyed the pool area. The new additions out front were finished this trip and we tried all but the coffee shop. All were very good and would advise anyone returning to check out.

Room Tip: A high room with either strip or non-strip gives a great view. I like the moutian view better becaus...

This hotel did not really impress me, it was an older hotel the rungs were nasty. A in room dinner service tray was outside our room 4 3 days. There r a lot nicer hotels in Vegas to stay. Not a good location.

Monte Carlo is conveniently located within easy walking to many other MGM properties. The monorail linking to Aria, the Cosmopolitan and Bellagio is great. Easy access to pool. Lots of options for food from fast food to high end.

Room Tip: ask for a room close to the elevator as hallways are very long

Dear Bonny64,

With our convenient and complimentary monorail system linking us to several sister properties, plus a diverse assortment of casual and fine dining options (like the always popular Diablo’s Cantina and Yusho), Monte Carlo simply can’t be beat. Thanks for staying with us at the MC, and please feel free to visit again whenever possible.

Sincerely,

Lori P.

My comments are directed only for the Spa Suite at Monte Carlo. We have stayed in a Spa Suite on two different occasions two years apart. We do love this room as it is spacious. The spa is very large and is rectangular in shape, so there is no "lost" room in it. The bed was fine and has nice linens. The room has a bathroom that also has a very large shower with a seat. There is a nice granite top "kitchen" area with two seats that encloses an area with a small refrigerator (no freezer), and the in room coffee set-up is also there. The air conditioner worked fine (116 degrees while we were there), and housekeeping was just fine. They left plenty of towels and spruced the room up daily. The promised daily paper was there each day as was the bottled water. We were on the 28th floor and had NO TROUBLE getting wifi. Not a problem. Not sure why as I had read that there was no wifi above the 2nd floor, but Yay! I am going to mention some "differences" between the first time we stayed and this time. There was supposed to be a Keurig coffee pot and 2 "pods" for each person daily. They no longer have this; they have little coffee bags for single cups of coffee like you'd find in any hotel. Big disappointment for us as this was a special touch for this suite. They need to update their information. The carpet in the hallways was unbelievably worn for a "resort" such as this. It was almost threadbare looking and quite tacky. Our room had a lighted make-up mirror that did not light. Below it were several holes in the wall. (Not kidding!) The shower had a great deal of mold. It just needs to be scraped and caulked again. These things are maintenance items, and it seems to me that management needs to upgrade their maintenance efforts. This is just too nice a room overall for it not to be maintained. There were actually children running up and down the hallway several times for extended times during the late afternoon, so it wasn't especially quiet during that time. (Where are parents???) The pool area is nice, but it was so very crowded that about all you could do was just "be" in the pool. Lounge chairs are literally right against each other. So...to wrap this up - we had a relaxing time as the room is comfortable and the jacuzzi spa is just the best. But they better start taking care of their facility if they want people to come back.

Dear Inthemoment71,

We deeply apologize for the in-room amenity issues encountered during your recent stay at Monte Carlo. Oversights of this nature are uncharacteristic of our commitment to superior service, and we regret any inconvenience experienced as a result. Extensive renovations are planned, so please bear with us as we do our best to create the ultimate travel destination along the Las Vegas Strip.

Sincerely,

Originally booked a standard room but received an offer to upgrade to the spa suite and boy am I glad that I did. The Spa Suite is huge with a Jacuzzi by the window. The wet bar area was a treat with a refrigerator that came in very handy. I loved coming back to the room after a busy Vegas day and just relaxing in the Jacuzzi. The view from there at night was amazing. The bed was very comfortable to sleep in. The hotel itself is in a great location. Close to everything. I found the tram that connects Monte Carlo to The Bellagio very useful. Look forward to returning to vegas so I can stay there again.

Just recently stayed here for 4 nights. I had a good time but you definitely get what you pay for. This is a great place if you are on a budget. The location can not be better and the service from the moment we arrived to the moment we left was excellent. However, the rooms were quite run down and old. All the furniture had chips and scratches on it and the bath tub had a constant leak. We also had to call maintenance to come and fix the bathroom sink which was not draining. It really was not a big deal but what bugged me the most was the paper thin walls. I could literally hear conversations people were having in the next room(s). The hotel only had wi-fi in the common areas and not in the rooms. I would consider my options a little more carefully before returning to the Monte Carlo.
