“Decent Stay in Vegas”
Reviewed 12 August 2014

Attended a conference in the hotel. While it was little bit of a walk (what isn't in Las Vegas?) to the conference area, we stayed in the bungalow so we could have a balcony and upgraded to the poolside view. It was truly worth little bit of extra money to do it. Yes it was hot and August but it was so nice to get outside. The area is room key secured from the rest of the casino and that provided a bit more comfort. The room was clean and housekeeping did a good job for the 5 days we were there. This end of the strip is good. All in all it was a good stay.

Room Tip: People who stayed in the rooms in the towers complained about sirens and other road noises at night...

We recently spent 2 nights at the tropicana, pleasant enough hotel, we went room only (which seemed to be the norm), but went down to Denny's just round the corner for breakfast. Rooms fine, perhaps a little dated, chipped porcelain in the bath, no tea/coffee facilities which is odd. Very central to the strip, opposite MGMs and New York New York. But a lot smaller than neighbouring hotels. The Beach Cafe in the hotel did lovely meals in the evening, fab BBQ chicken salad, pool large but not many children there, geared up for adults and partying! But plenty of sun beds.

Just returned from a weekend in Vegas. This was my second stay at the Tropicana. The first in 2012 was great, this time average. I made my reservation in Dec of 2013 , but it doesn't matter when you reserve it's what time you check in that makes the difference. We arrived at 11 pm to find all they had left were smoking rooms, I had booked non-smoking. The gentleman who checked us in said we could move the next day if the room smelled, but after checking the room and finding the smoke smell to be too strong we went back to the front desk another agent told us they were fully booked and we couldn't move rooms. She gave us a 50 food credit which was nice but not off to a great start. The room had burn marks in the carpet and the furniture was a little beaten up. After 11pm the hall filled with the aroma of marijuana. Housekeeping was fine and we had a great breakfast. Not sure if we will return .

Room Tip: If arriving late call in the morning to guarantee the style of room you need.

This was my 7th trip to Vegas and decided to book through Hotwire. I will start with what I enjoyed about the Trop. Great Location, I upgraded to the paradise tower which was a great idea, very close to the tables and MGM walkway. The casino is great, fun dealers, good crowd, but not too crowded. Staff was very friendly and very helpful at the front desk.

Now to the not so great, It took me three times to get my room, (comped me 5o bucks for this)first attempt they put in the wrong tower, second room was not ready and smelled like vomit, the third had some issues. Overall the room was not bad, but there was black stuff in the tub and the water would not drain when showering, I called and they fixed it, but it was just as bad as before. On the last day the entire hallway and room smelled like sulfur, it did not go away for a long time. I had a lot of confusion about the upgrade, they couldn't tell that I did and tried to charge me at the end for it again. Staff was very nice and apologized, and they took care of me fast at the doubletree rewards counter. Last, is why no black out curtains??? Vegas goers like to have to room pitch black at night and the shutters did not cut it.

I would recommend based on value, location, and the tables. They have done a great job turning around the property, but still having some room issues.

Room Tip: 100% upgrade to paradise tower if you are going to spend time at nearby hotels.

Quite small by the standards of Las Vegas, the Tropicana is situated to the southern end of the main strip hotels although close to New York New York and the MGM. It is neither a "boutique" hotel nor large enough to have the variety of in house restaurants and attractions of the big boys. It does, however, have a reasonably good pool area with a number of pools, a variety of concrete and grass and options of loungers or (extra cost) cabanas. It also has the great benefit of free covered parking which means that your car is less like an oven when you go to collect it. Valet parking is in the open but you hope that the AC has cooled the inside a little by the time you get it back.

There is not a huge selection or variety of restaurants and snack bars and the food in all that we tried was pretty average both for quality and value for money. The Biscayne, their "top" venue is in a rather characterless room which never seemed to have very many diners or a buzz of life. Food there was overpriced but with good service for most of the meal.

One real irritation was to come back to your room and find 4 identical telephone messages from the same lady (supposedly from the cast of the show that was on) trying to get you to book seats. A bit short of customers?

Used by airlines, and from a lot of the bedroom windows you look on to the airport, rates are competitive and lower than some of the larger competition if you book ahead, so you could stay there and go elsewhere for food and the attractions.

Room Tip: If you are in the Club Tower and want in room WiFi make sure that you are on the 5th floor or higher...

I stayed at the Trop during a convention across the street. The room was comfortable, but several things detracted from my visit. 1) Housekeeping was spotty. I stayed three nights and on night #2, they made the bed, but didn't even touch the bathroom. 2) There was a periodic "wooshing/rumbling" noise (sounded similar to the jets taking off from nearby McCarran, but happened every few seconds at times) that I think might have been the elevators, but I was several rooms down from them. This was somewhat distracting. 3) Basic Internet access is free (1 megabit), but 5 megabits was $19.99/day (I'm a Hilton Platinum member - you'd think this might be comped). 4) Desk chair wasn't adjustable. It was a little low for typing on my laptop and couldn't be raised (just a four-legged chair). Overall, I would put this hotel above the clown hotel and below the other tropical-themed one nearby.

There was no coffee maker or coffee in the room so you have to go downstairs and through the casino to buy coffee every day. The bath tub porcelain was chipped in many places. Good location near the airport and strip with access to highways. Excellent Italian restaurant on site.
