“We tried to pick the perfect Vegas hotel... and succeeded”
Reviewed 28 September 2012

This was my first trip to Las Vegas, and we went for six nights, so I wanted to find that perfect, iconic Vegas hotel which was classy, kitschy, well-located, well-priced, and had all of the right amenities. After scouring way more reviews than I should admit to, I decided the Mirage was it. Wow. Yes, it was! We spent $85 per night on the hotel for a very large, well-appointed room with a great view, were right mid-strip so that we walked to every single other hotel on the strip (for future reference), the casino was fabulous, the pool was the best on the strip -- even more so, I thought, than Mandalay Bay, which gets a lot of acclaim -- and it felt modern but also "old school Vegas" as I'd imagined it. The coolest part? The Secret Garden where you could see white tigers and lions from a few feet away, as well as to watch the dolphin show up close, all of which seemed happy and healthy. We had great bar options throughout as well and extremely well-priced food from California Pizza Kitchen and the burger place. My only complaint would be that the rest of the food options were pricy and not so great -- I came to HATE the Carnegie Deli because the food was awful; however, because you're right next to Caesar's Palace and the Venetian and the Bellagio, as well as across the street from a food court, affordable and/or better food options are around. Also, the spa is overpriced, so we didn't go (I just wanted to use the exercise room; it was 115 degrees outside). Love the volcano! We'll go back and totally stay at the Mirage again. Oh, and it smells like coconut, faintly, throughout the hotel, and it was truly pleasant.

We are M Life members and booked the Mirage's "Summer Offer", which was supposed to include a 1 night complimentary deluxe room, additional nights at $48/night and 2 buffet credits.
Sounded great. The buffet WAS great - excellent seafood - crab legs, prawns, shrimp cocktails.
However, at checkout, we were charged for one of the buffets. They insisted our offer was for only 1 complimentary buffet, not 2. We could not convince them otherwise, and nothing on the so-called "confirmation" sheet made mention of the buffet offer. So for $33, the Mirage ticked us off enough to not return again. Although the buffet was certainly worth paying for, it was the principle of the whole matter.
Room: The room seemed nice enough when we walked in but, on closer inspection, the carpet had definitely not been vacuumed. There were bits of debris everwhere. It made one wonder if they even bothered to change the bed linens or whether they just made up the bed to look nice....;). The bathroom was nicely upgraded but small; the door came within an inch of touching the front of the toilet. Toiletries were nice, towels were extra thick and fluffy - a cut above most places to be sure, and the shower water pressure was very strong and lots of hot water, too.
Food: Breakfast at BB King: Large portions, okay food, okay service. California Pizza Kitchen is always good.
Dolphin Habitat: The $21 resort fee (a joke!) allowed $3 off the $20 admission fee. The dolphins were wonderful of course, and the secret garden was a series of small-size pens for a variety of cats - lions, white tigers and black panthers. Partly under construction. The white tigers paced constantly. Too small a habitat for them I think. They looked healthy enough but not particularly happy.
Casino: Very smoky, in the evening especially. We actually won on the slots, though.
Race and Sports Book: Very good. Lots of good comfortable seats up close to TVs.
Shows: Terry Fator is great; pay a little more and get up close; it is worth the extra money.
Love is fabulous and there is not a bad seat in the theater.

We are so glad you had the chance to enjoy both of our shows, The Beatles LOVE by Cirque du Soleil and Terry Fator; It's great to hear! On the other hand, we are sorry for what must have seemed like a lack of attention to the cleanliness of your room. As part of our Green Advantage, The Mirage is dedicated to protecting the environment and it’s our policy that room linen is changed daily at our guests' request. We apologize if this was not your experience.

Thank you for your concern about our cats. We can absolutely assure you our cats are well fed and taken care of, and receive only the best of care from animal experts. They spend most of their time in a larger facility, and have more room to roam. The facility is also routinely inspected by the federal government for its care standards and receives high marks. Siegfried and Roy and The Mirage family all love these cats.

Again, thank you for taking the time to tell us about your stay with us. I would appreciate the opportunity to address the buffet credits that you mentioned as well as address any other concerns you may have. Please do not hesitate to email me directly at tripadvisor@mirage.com. I would be happy to resolve this issue for you.

We are a family of 5 that stayed in 3 rooms at the Mirage for 4 nights. When we arrived we were pleasantly surprised that the check in queue was short and were attended to quickly. We were rather surprised/disappointed that our rooms were not close together - two on the 6th floor of one wing and the third on the 23rd on a different wing.
The rooms themselves were a good standard, not luxurious but with plenty space and pretty much everything we needed.
The swimming complex is large with plenty of loungers and staff in attendance. There wasn't a lot of swimming taking place - most people were simply using the pool to cool off - also the pool depth didn't encourage swimming.
We found the Mirage staff to be very helpful particularly the concierge team who helped us with the "Cirque Love" tickets which was an excellent show.
We were not really interested in the gambling activities and found them an unwelcome distraction more than anything else but that is pretty much the same at most hotels.
Having been to a number of higher end hotels like the Wynn, Venetian and MGM Grand, the Mirage is simply not in the same league. However it is a lot cheaper and is well positioned on the strip.
Overall it suited our needs and was good value but perhaps next time we might splash out for something more exotic.

I stayed here with 5 other mates March 2010, paid half price due to a discount through my employer.

For 5 nights it set me back £200, amazing value for money. The rooms purchased were your bog standard two double bed, room only. However the room was luxury, walk in warbrode, large bathroom, plenty of space for two people. Two Queen siz beds, very comfy, alarm clock, MP3 docking point, huge desk, fridge (for drinks), ironing board and iron (gotta look good at night), flat screen TV. Everything we needed to basically live like kings for a breif moment.

The room had this ambient lighting to it, so it was never fully lit at night, but I liked it, set a real tone for a night out.

Location was centre of the strip, 20mins + walk to either end, or just grab the Deuce bus taking 10mins. Mcdonald's opposite for quick bite to eat.

Didnt use the room service of gym so cannot comment, pool was amazing though, large and enough space for everyone.

Used the Love lounge, nice, friendly and staggering distance to our room at the end of the night.

Worth staying in my oppinion, however I wouldn't pay more than $100 a night for the basic rooms.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the strip, excellent views of the volcano!

The Mirage is one the best hotels I have stayed at on the strip. The size is just right, easy to find everything and not confusing. No messing getting from parking garage, into lobby & check-in and then to rooms. The room we had was on a corner, so had 2 massive windows looking up and down the strip. The bed was the best I have ever slept in with amazing pillows - they are that good, you can buy them in the gift shop! The rate we had included ALL taxes so no extras at check-out. Great onsite restaurants & Buffet.

Room Tip: Ask for a strip view

Had a fabulous time and would certainly return. The pool was magic under the hot sun, much needed boost for the winter to come. Would recommend this to anyone. The views all round are to die for and the staff couldn't be more helpful. Lots of places to eat, the buffet excellent value.
