“Good Value & Great Location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 December 2011

After seeing advertisements for the newly renovated Plaza Hotel & Casino, I decided to give it a try for the final 2 nights of our trip (keep in mind I originally wanted to stay at the Rush Towers at the Golden Nugget).

We drove our rental car to the parkade, it is old and the ceilings are super low (I saw a few trucks that just barely made it in) but it served its purpose. We came back a few times when it was dark and I was not scared to walk in the parkade. The older elevators are a bit slow but we only used them when we first arrived and when we were leaving for the airport.

The perfume smell in the Casino is quite overwhelming, but places like Tropicana and Mandalay Bay were awful as well. The casino was very quiet during the entire weekend, Players Club staff were friendly and they had a great variety of slot machines and table games.

Check in was very fast. The front desk clerk was really friendly and personable. We were placed in the non-smoking tower (at least that is what we were told and during our stay there was no reason I had to think otherwise) in a room overlooking the start to Fremont Street. Yes, you can hear the commotion from the Fremont Street Experience, but it subsides by about 1am. So if you go to bed early I would suggest you ask for a room that does not over look Fremont.

The room itself is huge. There was so much space in our King Sized- Non Smoking Room. The furniture, bedding, carpet and other fixtures are all brand new. I had no issues with turning the bedside lamps on and off. They were plugged into the wall and the lamps had a switch on the side. The only plug in issue was at the desk/TV console, where I had to get on my hands and knees and unplug the lamp to plug in my laptop. A minor inconvenience in my opinion.

The bathroom area with the toilet and bathtub/shower is small, no doubt. But it was clean with good water pressure in the shower. Mind you our shower head was low even for me who is 5'6. The sink area is small but had enough room for our toiletries. The lighting did not bother me at all.

The only issue I had was that though the furnishings are new, the insulation and thickness of the doors are not. You can still hear everything in the room next door. Unfortunately I was awoken both nights by a couple who seemed to be having a really good time. *wink*.

If the Golden Nugget Rush Towers were full, I would stay here again. It is a great deal.

Having been just completely remodeled the place was really nice. The Employees were very courteous and helpful. Housekeeping does an excellent job. Good Security, can't get on elevators without showing room key.
Wasn't impressed with the Restaurant the "Hash House" Seems to be run by kids without supervision. But the food was good. even though the service was fair.
Will stay there again except the new enlarged casino does not have a Poker room.
The reason I go to Vegas is to play Poker.
One Complaint -The Ice Machines were Not Installed, had to walk all the way into the Casino to a Bar with Ice Container to get Ice. Hope they Fix that by the time I return in a Month or so.

Do not stay here. We often do "stay cations" we live in vegas. This hotel was aweful.. The light switch upon entering the room didnt work, so room was dark/unsafe. Lamp that should have been plugged into switch was a fire hazard, had a shortage in it. We had to move this Large heavy lamp just to have light when entering room. The lamps at bedside we also un plugged?? The lights in bathroom were so dark, forget putting on makeup or shaving. The room was cold/dark. The photos state linens not used in rooms, Yeah thats right.. The sheets & blanket was so thin I buy slices of bread thicker than the two sheets. No comforter nothing, had to run heater all night, plus no towel bars in bathroom, so you have to lay towel on tolit while showering.. Yuck, I told front desk, they only said were sorry, Please stay anywhere else Oh and you must have 50.00 upon check in for "incendentals" refundable upon checkout.

Room Tip: none... terrible... stay elsewhere...

After reading the reviews on TripAdvisor I was extremely nervous about booking the Plaza but decided to take a chance and I'm really glad I did. I only gave it a 3 because there was no hairdryer or comforter on the bed although the room temperature was perfect so we didn't need it anyway. Check-in was fast and easy, the restaurants were good and the staff was friendly. If you want a good hotel in a good location for a decent price, then I can definitely recommend The Plaza.

Was somewhat concerned with staying here after reading some of the postings on Tripadvisor, but decided with a great discount, and no resort fee to give it a try.

Stayed in the South Tower. Suggestion, check in first and then drive over to valet or self park so you are closer to the South Tower elevators and you don't have to walk all the way through the casino pulling your luggage over the carpet.

The room. See the photo, nice, spacious, well appointed room with a nifty view....comfy bed, ok shower, and so on. However there were a few minor kinks, like one of the lamps did not have an on-off switch and I had to do a mild contortion routine to plug said lamp into electrical outlet. While the the matching lamp on the nightstand did have a rotary, in the power cord on-off switch, and of course this switch was conveniently hidden behind the nightstand.....took me a few minutes to figure that one out.
Coffee maker? Nope no coffee maker
In room safe? Yes
Desk, work area? Yes, large work area with a comfy business type desk swivel chair
Wi-fi? Did not use the hotel wi-fi, instead relied on local cell phone company Cricket's wireless broadband (btw; just this side of dial up, not appropriate for anyone with real need for responsive wi-fi service)
Gym? Yes, nice gym on the third floor, though when I was there several of the treadmills were in need of service.
Pool? Yes though closed for the season.
Ice? Not in your room, not on your floor, grab and ice bucket and go bug one of the bar tenders. And unfortunately not all of the bar tenders got the 'be nice to the guests' memo....ya know just give me the ice, quit with the [...] attitude, do you think I want to come down here and get ice this way!
Valet parking? Yes, no charge, and it was quick and friendly, and a tip helps.
Self park? Yes, no charge, ended up doing a combination of valet and self park.
Restaurants? Yes, got food from the sandwich-deli bar, one of the best sandwiches ever. And ate at the Hash House, interesting-interesting variety and the portions are quite generous.
Casino? Yes

Got to talking with some on the staff and they told me about all of the mix-ups and mistakes when the Plaza reopened in August/September. Though the staff I did get to talk to (with the exception of the bar tenders and the ice thing) seemed committed to providing guests with a good experience.

Would I go back? Assuming the price stays the same, why not?

They should have updated the plumbing, elevators, and let it air out about 2 months with all the windows out. Stayed 1 night (only because I couldnt get a room at the Aria that night) had 2 free nights given from gambling in the casino, but only used 1.

Have just got back from a week in Vegas at the Plaza hotel. just having been upgraded. the only upgrade I saw was a coffee maker in the room. The rooms were clean, but the housekeeping left a lot to be desired. some times no toiletries left. coffee left in room but no cups. and the coffee maker only takes certain cups. The staff are all dull and sometimes rude. The windows in the rooms dont open at all.!! the players comps are not worth a carrot. they tried to give me a bit of discount on a meal, but I told them comp'S implies more than 1 option.they didn't like it but gave me a token for the gift shop.If your a poker player dont go here. they no longer have a poker room. good luck to you all.

Room Tip: get a lower floor. the windows DONT open at all, so if your high up and theres a fire your gonna be...
