“What a country pub should be”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 November 2013

We've eaten here regularly over the past six years. The service is very friendly and helpful, the landlord knows his beers and it always very happy for you to "try before you buy". The food is tasty, well prepared and nicely presented. It's not haute cuisine but excellent quality pub grub - and plenty of it too! Most of the meat is local and the fish is always fresh. The lunch menu is especially good value.

The regular clientele is a complete mix with children welcome and a cross section of village society to be found around the bar.

What other pub runs an astronomy night?!

Girls night out Friday night. Varied menu - plain to specials on blackboard. Only two serving bar and restaurant so made service a little slow. (Girls gassing so wasn't a problem), Food served was tasty, puddings lovely. Prices very reasonable. Old fashioned pub feel.

We have not stayed here as we are local but have had meals. The food is homemade but there is a good variety on the menu to suit all tastes. The Staff are very friendly and it has a lovely atmosphere. Comfortable to sit and relax in after your meal. Good parking. Easy to find. Traditional bar games available to while away the hours! Another plus.. it serves Harveys beer, a local brewer!

Its an old local pub (bar billards, darts and of course a Bonfire society) in West Sussex with Harveys beer (local brewer) and good food. We stayed in the en-suite room which is comfortable and just fine except the sound insulation from the bar is almost non-existent - so take advantage of the beer until they close rather than try and have an early night! Breakfast was excellent and it was an enjoyable stay

We (my wife and I) drove a few miles out of Lewes and went for Sunday lunch with another couple and a single friend. Overall it was a very good experience although we don't know what it is like to stay there and surely there cannot be many guest-rooms in what is essentially a Country Pub (ex- Coaching Inn). First impressions not favourable as when we entered it was to find a somewhat flustered lady behind the bar who wouldn't look at us at first even though there were only a few other customers around. This soon changed when some of the male staff came into the bar and we were offered the menu and told a bit about it. We all chose the roast lamb (or beef) with which, for £10 you coudl also have either a starter or a sweet (a good deal). Service was very quick and our single friend put this down to the meal being pre-packaged. But all of us agreed it was tasty fare, with the traditional roasties and Yorkshire pud (even with the lamb). Prawn cocktails (on a plate rather than in a glass) were also good starters and my wife had an excellent, thick vegatable soup to begin. Staff were friendly, helping to create a good atmosphere in the cosy surroundings and it was an open kitchen where the nearer diners could see all that was going on. Harvey's Ale is available which is always a bonus and wine was a reasonable price, too. Once again I'd like to appeal to Trip Advisor to provide a "Good" category because this is what Horns Lodge is - not "Very Good" even though, in a generous mood, that is where I've placed it.

Room Tip: , The Sunday roasts are very good value for lunch but there is also a substantial a la carte menu.

Great stay in a warm and welcoming inn. An old fashioned country pub in the nicest sense. There was nothing 'biscuit box' or saccharine about this place. Just a homely pub in which you felt instantly relaxed.

Stayed one night and the owners were helpful and accommodating without being all over you. Was made to feel I could come and go as I liked and they were more than flexible to my needs (when luggage was dropped/collected etc).

The full English breakfast was superb. Apparently it was all locally sourced and you really could tell.

The room was comfortable, staff helpful and the pub itself lovely. 100% satisfied and have no hesitation in recommending.

We've eaten here once, & stopped another time for drinks, does it have a new owner we ask?
The food was ok, when we ate here, nothing special, freshly cooked and hot, as dsecribed.
The place badly needed a makeover, and was in need of redocration etc.
It had ok beer, but nothing more really.
