Took the family for the weekend to Reno and Lake Tahoe. Hotel is in the center of Reno right next to the arch. Offers rock climbing along with the room, but u have to spring for equipment. Rooms are nice, although ones facing harrahs have to tolerate music from next door venue until 10 pm.
Parking across the street in garage.
Worst part was the concierge that insisted that there was such a Hugh demand for luggage carts that they had us dump all of our belongings on the curb outside so that they could use the cart. For a "high end" hotel, this seems terrible. Should they not be investing in more luggage carts so that belongings do not have to be unceremoniously dumped on sidewalk???

Room Tip: On the side away from Harrahs

I stayed for two days in the WPH. Check-in didn't went smooth, they somehow weren't able to find my reservation initially (through booking.com), so it took like 10mins before securing a key. I had a concierge level room, which has a nice interior. I switched off the A/C as it is a little old and noisy, though windows can be opened (which I consider a strong plus). Concierge lounge needs a bit of an interior designer as it really doesn't make you welcome. I could easily do without the evening snack, though breakfast is good and a convenient thing to do. The hotel features a nice gym and a large indoor and outdoor climbing facilitiy. Staff is nice and can set up all sorts of outdoor activities. The hotel is close to the tuckee river, which is nice to have a walk, cycle or run. Hotel is also located in the center of the city, though this is a odd place if you're not up for gambling. I liked the restaurant and bar in the hotel, which I consider to be the best option in central reno. Staff was very helpful and friendly throughout my stay. They add a $10 per night resort fee (I was told for gym and climbing) to your bill, which doesn't show up when booking. I complained and they subtracted it again. Hotel is for sure a little more expensive then the casino hotels as these are subsidizing their rooms with the casino. I think the WHP is a very concenient and nice non-casino hotel alternative and I would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: I would ask for a odd numbered room next time. On the side of my even numbered room smoke (heating o...

Great location, VERY CLEAN & non-smoking, great service, and centrally located. We loved the decor and the rooms here. They have a restaurant and a great fitness center with a rock climbing gym if that's what you're into. Unfortunately the parking situation was inconvenient. You either had to valet for $15 a day, or park across the street for $10/day. I would stay here again because it is refreshing to be away from the smokey casino atmosphere all the other hotels offer.

For a nonsmoking hotel there is the odor of smoke in many places (likely the residual smoke from the Fitzgerald, the hotel it replaced). The individuals at the front desk were pleasant but very uninformed. They could not explain why there where $37 in taxes and fees (on a $100 room), saying merely "we have only been open a few months and we haven't learned this yet." This is knowledge they should have the first day. When our room became too cold and we tried to turn on the heat, we discovered it did not work. Many calls to the front desk went unanswered; calls to housekeeping also were not answered. We found a maid and she sent the hotel engineer to our room. He told us that the thermometers throughout the hotel do not work (re cold to hot); he had to unscrew and remove the grate and manually switch the "water flow" from cold to hot. When asked what if our room gets hot later, he stated that he would have to come back, unscrew the grate, and switch the flow back. Not too impressive technology for a "class" hotel. (By the way, when we informed him that we tried to contact the front desk for over 10 minutes, he replied that they sometimes get too busy to pick up. We were there on a Tuesday; the hotel was strikinglyl empty. No excuse for such lousy service.) We were on the conceirge floor, meaning there were evening snacks and morning breakfast. Very disappointing. The evening snacks consisted mainly of some some slices of cheese, sliced pepperoni, and a small bowl of chopped fruit. Breakfast was highlighted by cold scrambled eggs and the presence of an empty jar of milk. Both may have been ok for an aging Comfort Inn, but we expected more from a conceirge suite. The ice machine did not work on our floor, or on many other floors. We needed to take the elevator down two floors to find a working machine. How does a new hotel that seeks to gain new customers fail in so many ways? In all we were very disapponted with the hotel. Seems like management has seriously dropped the ball. To add insult to injury, we noted that we could have booked a suite (much larger room with jacuzzi tub) at the El Dorado or Silver Legacy for half the price.

The hotel was nice, but they are not customer service oriented. Most of the people at the front desk were college students with no authority to make customers happy. They did not tell us at check in where there parking was and that is was included in the resort fee. they don't have there own parking garage or pool. The ice machine was not working on our floor and we were not informed at check in either.

Room Tip: In our room the air conditioner was very noisy, not sure if they are all that way. View was great. R...

We were very impressed with the Whitney Peak hotel during Hot August Nights. Very close to lots of the HAN activities and no annoying casino to walk through. Very recently remodelled with a great lobby and restaurant. Rooms were clean, updated and very comfortable. We are booking here again next year.

Whitney Peak is a non-gaming hotel, freshly renovated, featuring a giant indoor climbing park and outdoor rock wall (their claim to fame). The hotel is designed as a blend of natural elements -- wood and concrete, leather and natural fabrics, rustic and modern -- and they largely pull it off. The room we had (on the club level) was spacious and very well appointed, from the rubber duckie to the large comfortable bed to the unique leather chair.

The restaurant looks really cool, continuing the wood and concrete motif into a smoky bbq restaurant. The problem is that there's so much meat smoking going on, the main lobby and even some of the floors smell like barbecue.

It's not Vegas-style, 5 star service. At check-in, there was only one agent helping, and he seemed not to know his way around the computer. Agent were goofing off in front of me when I went to check out in the morning, and no one really had a professional demeanor.
