The décor screams 70's and I haven't been updated since! The little store front you walk through need to be revamped or get rid of it! The food was fair to above, I would eat there again. 4 German beers on draught. The little store/deli on the other side where you pay seemed interesting enough.

Been here many times and have never been disappointed by the food. Prices are a bit high for Reno with all the competition about, but the food makes it worth it. However, was there the saturday before Father's Day and learned two things; don't go a Saturday night and do not go on a holiday. They just were not ready for the increased business, and I think they should have been with all the ex-military in the area and the age of the population puts a lot of those old soldiers in Germany in their time of service. Where better to take Dad or even your Grandfather.
THe wait staff tried to make it work, the owner tried to make it work, but two hours are two hours of waiting. Only so much wine! BUT: the cook did not short cut anything we had waited for. The food was STILL excellent. WE'll go again; but at a different day and maybe different time.

Tried this place a few years ago and really enjoyed it - but then forgot about it. Went there again yesterday and had an awesome lunch. Decor is certainly dated, but the food was great. Last month we had tried the Hofbrauhaus in Vegas and the food was way better at Bavaria World, at half the price. Beer was about 30 or 40% less than Vegas too. In the same building as the restaurant, they have a full German meat deli and bakery. Bought several items and the quality was high.

Mostly because I am still a bit speechless of where we ate today. We are moving to Europe in the next year and really have never eaten a lot of German or Bavarian food. Since our choices in Reno, for that cuisine, is Wienerschnitzel (the hot dog place) or Bavarian World...we had to give it a try. Even with the not so good reviews...have to say it was quite an experience. We like stepping out of our comfort zone with food and restaurants,,,so off we went.
It is not that far from downtown Reno...but in a very different atmosphere for sure. It is a huge building.
Once inside, holy cow. To your right is a small "market". They offer a large bakery choice, a very large assortment of meats and sausages. They were also selling Christmas ornaments, jewelry and key chains? If you keep going there are maybe 5 or 6 isles of assorted German..."Bavarian" items. All very interesting, but as one review had written before...a bit dusty. Still the interesting items helped us to progress to the actual restaurant.
Once again you walk through a area of things for sale. Things from Herbs to put in your ashtrays to make it smell good?...to very beautiful bowls from Germany...and more Christmas items.
Walking in the restaurant, you see a sign that tells you to "Seat yourself". This is how they do it in Germany, you pick your own table. The tables are around a dance floor. Part of the restaurant was dark...the other parts lighted by 1960s hanging lights. We got ourselves a table next to the dance floor. We were only the second table being filled. Oh, the decor mmmmm? Lots of plastic flowers, all is outdated and a uncared for.
Even though old...looking out over the dark dance floor...you could just see how much fun it would have been in past years or would be on a Saturday night still, with the dance floor filled. The waitress came and we told her we were "newbies" to all of this and could she suggest a beer for us to try? She brought the most wonderful beer and we are not beer drinkers...really good.
We order two meals to share with each other. I ordered the Sauerbraten and my husband ordered the Wurst, Wurst, Wurst. With those we shared side dishes of Spaetzle, Red Cabbage, fried potatoes and sauerkraut. Now I'm not going to claim we really knew what we were eating...however it all tasted good.
With both lunches, and two small beers the bill was $36. On our way out we went back to the bakery/market (where your bill is paid) and bought two slices of Black Forest cake for later tonight...super good.
Hey, get out there try something very different. Have a new experience. Overall the place was a bit strange, a mixed bag, pretty fun and certainly very interesting! We both left smiling...could have been the beer?
