Heavenly Vacations is to blame for this lousy hotel choice.

First, the location is bad….taxis don’t want to drive up to this part of the mountain. So if you’re a tourist that doesn’t want to drive in the snow…stay away….the staff even acknowledges that if you don’t have you own car you’re in bad shape.

Second the concierge is slow and useless…this is the first concierge service that encourages you to make your own reservations and prefers to hand you a brochure instead of making a reservation for you. The only good thing is I didn’t have to tip them.

Third their shuttle system leaves a lot to be desired. Their shuttle service is suppose to make 3 trips to the Heavenly Gondola (9am, 12pm, 3pm) I called one day for the 3pm they told me they didn’t have anyone to take us. Another day I needed to go to a local food store within a ¼ mile of the property, they dropped me off 2 blocks away and told me they’d pick me up at the same spot…I had to up a hill with 5 bags of groceries and sit by the side of the road in the cold for 10mins before I was picked up. Lousy service!
Overall the transportation in Heavenly is bad, ask any local.

The rooms were clean (The cleaning ladies were the only bright spot) but dated. Also we had heating issues and a bad leak in our bathroom one night.

Side Note about Heavenly…the worst marked mountain for skiing. We spent most of our time lost. There were signs marking the locations of lifts, but there were no signs for trails.
The view was magnificent! The lake is just as amazing as in photos.

Sadly I don’t think I will visit again.
They really need to do something about transportation.

We stayed here for 7 nights over New Year 2007-08 having come for the Lake Tahoe ski-ing. At a first glance the hotel looked to be isolated but we came to love the location - there are the options of the private Gondola down to the StageCoach lift or the direct hotel shuttle. Initially we would have preferred to have been down in Tahoe but, having heard stories of huge queues at the Tahoe Gondola to reach the mountain (15+ minutes against our 5) we had no complaints.
The on-site ski hire shop is excellent - superb service, knowledgable and friendly staff + competitive rates. Discounted passes are also available from here or from the Market Place shop in the hotel which has an impressive range of items on sale including discounted fleece jackets - superb value!
Room was fine although the "subdued" lighting was not to our liking. Deli for breakfast was friendly but limited and often lacking eg: orange juice, jam etc.
New Year's Eve dinner at the Hungry Bear was good - flexible timing and excellent service.
We "escaped" Tahoe before the big storm which dumped 8+ feet of snow in 4 days - wish we were there now.
We would happily return to the Ridge - given a couple of improvements!

We were on a trip to several west coast ski resorts and this is our first stop. We went right before Christmas and not all of the runs were open. The hotel was pretty decent although not really in the best location for us. We wanted to go to the casino area and we had to drive or take a taxi. Taxis are expensive and because of the holiday we had to wait for one.

The hotel wasn't cheap so we expected really nice amenities. The place was clean but the towels were about the same as the ones you get at Motel 6 and the furniture looked like it had been there a while.

The service was good and all of the people we interacted with were nice, so I guess I'd recommend it but we saw nicer places.

We arrived expecting a "hotel" which this is NOT!!! This is a mini resort of approx nine buildings on a very steep hill! If you are expecting or looking for a hotel then think again - if you end up in the Terrace or Plaza you have a lovely uphill walk for breakfast!

We arrived and our party of four was allocated only one room - where possible try to arrive pre 9pm when the reception is still open because the security staff could not organise or allocate or help in any way shape or form to save their lifes!!

The checking in team at security upgraded us after the mistake in booking - only for us to receive a call from the reception staff the following morning to tell us we had to "get out" and the upgrade was being revoked!

I have never been so appalled by the reception of the hospitality team at a hotel. We spoke with the Manager who was rude and smary telling us we were in the wrong and had no right to an upgrade. He was not apologetic at all for the mistake HIS team had made and quite frankly is the most appalling manager i have ever come across and resorted members of our party to tears on our first day! Needless to say we battled for our upgrade and kept it.

The hotel location is on the "Ridge" which can be subjected to strong winds upto 100mph plus and can be very noisy at night. Location to the stagecoach lift is excellent and the shuttle services available to the main town is also one of the most positive things going for the resort.

Hungry Bear is good food but on the expensive side. Good service.

If you are looking for something lively or to be close to runs which are beginners (green) stay in South Lake Tahoe at the Marriot/Embassy Suites or one of the Casinos. Access to green runs from here will require a bus journey.

All in all an OK resort after the initial problems. Appalling reception and management. Excellent transport services.

Location - a little scary to drive to and a long way out of the town!

Quality Rating - Our upgarde to the 2bd suite V. Nice - original room given not worthy of being a 4.5 star hotel!!

This place was just okay. If you could stay in town at the Timber lodge or one of those close it would be so much better. Drive into town is not to nice. Especially if there is snow everywhere. Some of the buildings are nice and newer. But others are in need of updating. I would only go back there if it was later in the ski season. December is to early and the lift is usually not open. So you have to go into town anyways to get on the slopes. So why not stay there.

My husband and I stayed for a week at the Ridge in a one bedroom one bathroom condo. It was a very spacious and clean place to stay - the furniture is a little outdated but well maintained. This is about a 15 minute drive from Heavenly Ski Resort and all of the casinos. I would definitely recommend renting a car as the shuttle service is not at convenient times during the day (picks at up 3 different times) and then once every hour starting at 5PM to 1230 pm to take you to casinos ($5 each way per person). If you do rent a car definitely get a 4 wheel drive - as if it snows you will not be able to get in and out of this resort as there are many windy curvy roads to get you there. We rented a Jeep Comander for a week for around $330 - not bad.

We went through Interval International exchange and spent a week at the Ridge Tahoe II (Tower) for Thanksgiving week. Check-in was a breeze, and we were in our room in no time. It was a one-bedroom, full kitchen, very spacious and extremely clean, right next to the outdoor spa and sauna. Though we were too early for snow, we drove around the lake, ate at a local Irish pub, and climbed the rocks at Emerald Bay. We also drove into Truckee and shopped in the historical part of town. There are many things to do on site at the resort, such as indoor tennis, ping-pong, movies, and age-oriented activities. The restaurant (The Hungry Bear) looked to be a bit pricey for us, so we opted for the Deli, which was reasonably priced and excellent. Of note for skiiers and boarders: The resort has its own gondola to Heavenly Ski Resort, which is next to the Ridge. All in all, of all the places we've stayed through exchange, this resort is one of the few that truly deserves Interval International's highest rating.

  • Liked — The room was clean, spacious, and the kitchen was fabulous.
  • Disliked — The in-room Internet connection was poor. The one in the lobby was speedy.
