“Mizpah Experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 February 2012

We just got back from The Mizpah Hotel in Tonapah and I have to say the place is beautiful! From the restaurant, bar, staff, rooms and mysterious hallways, the place was for more elegant than I expected! If you are within a two hour driving distance, the stay would be worth it for overnight. The town is very quiet but the local used book store is fun and the self guided mining tour was worth it and FREE. Speaking of free....we had breakfast in the Cafe this morning and if you stay the night, they practically give you the whole bill for free!! Overall, it should be at least a visit for a drink if you are passing through. The food is affordable too with a nice atmosphere. Have fun!!!!!!

Room Tip: Room 301 is huge! Good for a family. Other rooms are smaller and room 503 is said to be haunted by...

I was delighted with my stay at the Mizpah 7-9 Feb 2012. The historic hotel's restoration was tasteful and according to the period (early 1900's). I felt like I stepped back in time with the exception of having all the amenities of a current 4 star hotel. The hotel and restaurant serves was polite and timely. I plan on staying at the Mitzpah on all future Tonopah trips.

As we made our way from California to Elko, Nevada, for the National Cowboy Poetry Gathering, we happened upon the Mizpah Hotel in Tonopah, Nevada. Lucky us! The hotel has recently (October, 2011) reopened and is an absolute delight.
The rooms are very comfortable and furnished in the early 1900s style. The beds were heavenly and the bath amenities very nice.
Self-serve coffee is available in the morning on each floor and is excellent. Also, a continental breakfast in the Pittman Cafe is complimentary. Guests can also choose to order from the menu and receive $5.00 off the cost of a full breakfast upon showing the room key.
We ate several meals in the Pittman Cafe and all were top notch. "Chef quality" rather than "coo quality"/ The steakhouse was closed the nights we were there. The restaurants serve fresh-baked pastries and desserts. The scones are lovely and the Lady in Red Velvet Cake divine. The staff is well trained and very friendly.
We enjoyed our stay so much that we canceled our reservations in Mammoth for the return trip and came on back to the Mizpah. It was Super Bowl Sunday and we enjoyed watching the game in the historic lobby/bar area. The staff moved all available furniture to provide seating and we could see all of the three big screens nicely. We had the option of ordering food from the bar menu or the cafe menu and the game day appetizers along with the ice-cold beer hit the spot. (The Mizpah is owned by the Cline family of Napa and the wine selection is very nice, too.)
We have our next trip planned for May - this time Tonopah is the destination not a way point!

Room Tip: The King Suites are roomy.

Wonderfully refurbished. NO smoking any where in the hotel ...big plus! Great food.

Room Tip: If you want to perhaps encounter a ghost, stay on the top floor...

My wife and I have been stopping at the MIzpah for years since it was a conventient location halfway between Las Vegas and Reno. It was always a great place to spend the night. Then we lost it for a few years due to the poor economy. It has been resurrected by the
Cline family (Cline Cellars Winery - CA) and their restoration is progressing nicely. We had a wonderful meal at the Jack Dempsey room restaurant. This is truly the only high caliber restaurant between Reno and Las Vegas and is an oasis. Breakfast the next morning in the Pittman Cafe was simple but ample and well prepared. The only drawback we had was a poorly functioning a/c system in the room but we did report it and I'm sure it will be tended to. This place is fun, friendly and historical.

The hotel is amazing. No sense in duplicatingall the good things everyone else has said here. Highly recommend the hotel and the restaurant and the bar.
