My husband made the reservation for Scott Shady and I have to admit I was a little unsure when we arrived. But the place is great. The room (that's the important part, right?) was well-appointed, clean and the beds were so comfortable! It's a little off the beaten path which assured that it was quiet. We travel with two small dogs so pet-friendly is important as is a good walking area. Scott Shady won on both counts. The walking area is well-lit which is important to me for the late night wanders. Would love to have found a place like this when we were traveling with kids: there are swings and "bouncy" horses on a great grass area and also a covered pool. It really is a retro gem: the old motor court.
We all enjoyed Scott Shady Court so much that we stayed again on our return home.

I'm a sucker for Neon signs and Scott Shady Court has them all over town directing you to its slightly off the main drag location. If you head down First Street at night, at the end is the prominent "Scott Shady Court" neon sign beckoning you home. I assume this started up in the 50's or so and has seen more prosperous days. In fact there is a large "For Sale" sign attached to the fence in front. If I had the $990k they're asking I might consider it.
As mentioned in other reviews, the exterior is faded and could use a good paint job. Our room had a very musty smell at first, but an open door and air conditioner took care of that. The room was quiet and very clean, Beds were comfortable and depsite some date decor, it was fine. At $62 bucks the price is right and incuded an enclosed outdoor pool which we didn't use but it appeared clean and didn't reek of chlorine.
There is a also a small palyground with swings for the kids (remember swings?) which actually got some play time while we were there.
As a frustrated hotelier, I hope this place is acquired and revived. It has a lot of life left in it.

If you want basic lodging at a very reasonable price, this is the place . The room was small, however, it was clean and the beds were very comfortable. They do have wifi, however, ask for 3-way plug converter since all outlets are for 2-prong plugs. We were here on the4th of July and the town has an excellent fireworks display.

An older motel with little charm on the outside. However, our room was large, clean and well maintained. It may be dated, but so what? Obviously had been refurbished; bath, counter, carpet, bedclothes, etc. Near the freeway, but quiet nontheless. Two queen beds, firm and comfortable. If you are just needing a place to stay the night and get a good rest, this is an excellent value. ($65 all-inclusive for 2.)

We have been staying at Scotts Shady Court at least once a year for the past several years. We usually stay three nights. This is Winnemucca's best kept secret in my opinion. It's a little off the beaten path, but close to everything. It's not a "corporate" property, so there's no Continental breakfast, restaurant, fitness center or other "big boy" amenities. Thus, I believe the staff tries a little harder to make your stay nice. It's clean, very quiet and inexpensive. Overall, it's our choice whenever we make it to Winnemucca!

Although the beds were okay - comfort wise, the whole room was just too dated for our liking. Very bare bones facility. Very dated furniture. Room was cold when we first arrived -- a call to the front desk told us that they had just turned the heat on and it would warm up in a short time. Heat was from a water boiler that circulated through a baseboard heater. No way to regulate heat so it was too warm during the night. No vent fan in the bathroom --- a small window that would open a couple of inches only. Lamp shades were dusty and there was a small "tube type" TV. Next time we would pay a few more dollars and stay in a more updated hotel.

Room Tip: Room 78 was far from the office and in a more quiet location (except for the noise coming from the c...

I don't know if Winnemucca is still known as "the city of paved streets," but it was a few decades ago - and going to the Scotts Shady Court is like slipping back a few decades. It is tucked away off the main drag, and as all you could need or want from a small, laid back, inexpensive motel. Friendly staff, clean unadorned rooms.
