“Perfect alternative to camping”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 October 2012

We planned to camp for 3 nights in the white mountains but unexpected freezing cold and snow made us rethink our plans. After the first night we happened across these dollhouse like cottages and decided to stay. They were warm , cozy, and spotless! The bed was amazingly comfortable. They are small and quaint not modern or fancy in any way, but it had everthing we needed in the tiny kitchenette. Was a perfect location and affordable accommodations for exploring the beautiful franconia notch parkway away from the touristy town of Lincoln. We plan to go back in the spring:)

Positives: The price is reasonable for a small cottage --in the middle of peak fall foliage season.
The cottage is spotlessly clean, the beds comfortable, proprietors very friendly

Negatives: The set up of the cottage left a bit to be desired; frustrating at times.
There are no nightstands on either side our our bed, so we had to set up our luggage to put our watches, tissues, phone/clock near us.
The bathroom door clocks the shower entrance. You can take out the door stop holding it, but would lose the warmth from the bedroom heater .
The shower itself is a bit claustrophic- dark with a metal floor and very old shelves to put your soap (2 small bars provided), and shampoo (not provided).
The sink is tiny- with no place to put your personal items like shaving cream combs, tooh brushes, etc. There was a medicine cabinet, but I prefer to not put things in there for a 2 night stay, especially as old as it was.
Our cabin, an upgrade/higher price (we were in Cottage 17, supposedly the quietest, farthest from street noise) did not have a kitchenette, just a tiny coffee maker; we were told we could use the microwave in the Common Area across the lawn by the office; I did, but it was quite inconveneinet and walking in the dark and rain laden lawn made it no fun)
Again, clean, comfortable bed, TV appreciated on rainy nights.
I know running a place like this is not financially lucrative, and they are trying their best, but I hope they can someday splurge on inexpensive microwaves in all cabins (especially the more expenisve ones) and perhaps hit the Yard Sales for tiny nightstands to make it possible to not have to get out of bed to find tissues and the time.

We decided to head to the White Mountains in NH for the Labor Day weekend, and found Hearthside on the internet. It looked nice, and but it's the internet, and we've been fooled before... but we went anyway. What we found there was all that was described and more.

This is a family owned and run little gem in the mountains. The cabins looked like little doll houses - white with green trim, and fieldstone chimneys. The grounds, which include a well-kept pool, chairs for sitting, a playground for the little ones, a garden, and more, are immaculate and well groomed. Fantastic first impression. Just got better from there. The owner handled the check-in, and we went to the cabin, a one-bedroom we reserved.

Before we looked inside, I thought "these are going to be tiny", based on the outside. Not so!! It wasn't the Presidential Suite, but it was more than big enough for 2. A sitting area with a flat-screen, working fireplace, little table for eating, kitchen with all the appliances, bedroom, and bathroom. Everything had that "just scrubbed" feeling to it - clean and neat. Couldn't ask for more. It is an older property, but extremely well maintained, and everything works. The ONLY thing we found that wasn't perfect is that we couldn't use the oven, and there's no microwave. Not a travesty, just not helpful when you buy a dinner at the grocery store that needs to be heated. We managed :)

The owners were extremely helpful, informative, and friendly - down to offering coffee in case we didn't make it to the market before it closed.

The location is in the central-north area of the White Mountains, close to just about everything - Mt Washington (both the auto road and cog railway), the "kiddie" attractons (Santa's Village and Storyland), Littleton and Lincoln, and tons of good little restaurants and things to see and do.

We do travel a lot (and by motorcycle, which can be a problem, but not here!!). Fantastic value for the money. We'll be back!!

I found this cottage on line and after reading the reviews I decided to book a 3 day stay. It was everything we hoped it would be. The place was older but spotless. The owners keep everything clean and ready, from the rooms to the play area for kids, to the pool. We had an amazing time and my grandchildren loved the place. I would return for sure.

Room Tip: The cottages in the back have more room between them and further from the street.

I stumbled across this place on a website and decided to give it a try. The little cabins are delightful, like little dolls houses. We were travelling with 2 young children and they loved it. There's also a kids playground which kept them busy for ages whilst we relaxed with a beer after a day exporing the nearby Franconia Notch State Park. Although quite small inside, the cabin had 2 rooms and was big enough for the 4 of us. There was also a small kitchen at the back, but with a great cafe / restaurant in nearby Bethlehem for dinner and a superb pancake restaurant near Franconia for breakfast we didn't do any cooking.

We spent two nights at Heartside Village staying in their quaint cabins. The accommodatons were very clean and cozy. The location is ideal for expoloring the White Mountains. We plan on a return visit next year.

We stayed at Hearthside for 2 nights as part of a 2 week road trip. I really wish we could have stayed longer.

We had a little one bedroom cottage with a king size bed. It was like stepping back 50 years as soon as you walked through the door, but in the most positive way. Everything was small but totally functional, there was enough room in the lounge/ kitchen to prepare and eat your meal & watch some TV in the evening. The kingsize bed was huge and very comfortable. The cottage had heating, so we were able to put that on in the evenings as it was quite cold in the mountains.

The location was great for driving around the White Mountains, easy to reach Mt Washington cog railway and the Franconia Notch. Littleton a few miles up the road had plenty of places to eat and Rosa Flamingo's restaurant in Bethlehem, was a great place for live music and food. It was in a very quiet spot too, so lovely and peaceful at nightime.

I imagine in the summer it would be great, as there was a swimming pool and childrens play area too for those with children.

I'd certainly stay again if we return to the area
