Owner description: Climb to the top of Mount Washington on the world's first mountain-climbing Cog Railway trains!

On a clear day, you can see forever. The day we were in Bretton Woods, it was a glorious day. We boarded the cog train attentively listening to the interesting facts our guide was sharing while we enjoyed the almost hour ride to the summit. Once arriving at the top of the mountain, you have an hour before your scheduled ride down the mountain. On the summit, there is an observation area, a wonderful museum which describes the work of the Nat'l Weather Service, the unoccupied Tip Top Hotel built in the 1800's, and a cafeteria and restrooms. Our trip down the mountain was a shorter trip, maybe 40 mins. We had not bought tickets on line ahead of time since we were unsure of our arrival time, but we were able to buy tickets with only an hour wat time. The entire experience takes about 3 hours.

I nearly didn't take this trip as a return journey for 2 was nearly £80. However as we had travelled to the USA on holiday and where unlikely to see this attraction again we took the plunge and parted with the money. The journey up took 45 minutes and when you reach the summit you have about one hour to look around before having to start the trip back down. Unfortunately the clouds came down and the views were very limited so be prepared to be disappointed as apparently this is a common occurrence. The trip back down was better with great views. Make sure you sit on the left side going up and the right side coming down for the best views. Overall, a bit expensive but remember you are travelling on one of the worlds oldest cog railways.

We rode the cog railroad many years ago on a cloudy day. This time we traveled with our 14 yr old granddaughter and it was a sparkling clear day. The cog railroad is expensive, but worth it & a lot of fun. The flora on the ride up is beautiful and the railway goes slowly so you gt plenty of time to look out and see at close quarters. An interesting commentary as you ride by the conductors. Once at the top you get a hour to explore and admire the views. We were lucky to get a clear day, but even if not clear worth doing. We did make reservations ahead on the internet, as it can get busy in the summer months.

I wish I'd had a better idea of how many stunning trails were around the railway, even at the base. Rather than the few hours we spent going up and returning, I would have packed a picnic and hit some trails, too! It is beautiful all around the railway.

We were with small children (2 & 3) so hiking down wasn't an option, but I would suggest for all who are able. It was inspiring at the top to see not only the views, but the Appalachian Trail hikers and those who climbed the mountain on foot. Wow! It is spectacular at the summit. Have lots of memory on your photo card and some snacks. BUNDLE UP! It's cold and windy up there! Also, I wouldn't plan on a stroller. It *can* be done, but not really worth it - the walkways aren't stroller friendly and it's just too crowded up top.

Too bad the tickets are so expensive. I found the staff very friendly. The only thing is that on the way up the one breakman didn't seem to realize that the speaker system was blown out or something, so we couldn't understand anything on the way up. We just heard a noise from the speakers. The. Whole. Way. Up.

I always wanted to take the cog rail way and the price did not deter me. We arrived this morning in a full gale. 40-70 mph winds and driving rain! Immediately the ticket attendant told us the that conditions were hurricane force on the top of the mountain and that the train would only go 3/4's of the way up. He offered us a full refund or a 25% discount. We elected to take the abbreviated trip. By the time we boarded, the weather was even worse and they offered an additional 50% discount because the train could only go half way. We still went and loved every minute of the journey. Don't miss this really special trip.

The customer service was excellent.
