Before we arrived at the Inn on Newfound Lake, we stopped in the town of Bristol, NH which appeared to have a number of places to eat. We really lucked out when we found, Kathleen's Cottage, a very authentic Irish Pub. It is easy to miss as you are going out of town, because it is attached to a Garden Center. I had the best Reuben Sandwich I have ever had. Really pleasant place, and on the weekends in the evening, they have live music.

We were able to walk here from our B&B so we could have a few pints. Great beer selection and whiskey too. Enjoyed the food also - overall a really friendly and warm place - live music was a bonus.

Stopped in for lunch and to 'clense our palets' during a wine tour of tthe region. An appitizer 'bucket of bangers' along with a pint of beer made quite a nice lunch for me. My wife was apprehensive when she saw the Ruben she had ordered - it was different than others she has had. After eating it she declared probably the best ever. The biggest problem was deciding which of the fine draft beers to have - many great choices. We almost went back tonight to hear a fine local family band as entertainment.

We had dinner here after climbing Mt. Cardigan and had a lot of hope because of all the positive reviews. Nice atmosphere, and our waitress was very friendly and attentive, but unfortunately the food was very disappointing. Onion soup, clam chowder and caesar salad were all OK, but things went downhill with our entrees. My wife and I both liked the sound of the Irish beef stew, so we both ordered it -- it was so bland and tasteless, it seemed like the kitchen must have run out of spices. Even worse, there were pieces of butternut squash in it with the hard skin still attached. We asked our waitress about this and she came back, apologized, and told us there was someone new working in the kitchen who hadn't been able to tell the difference between butternut and summer squash. (She comped us a hard cider for our troubles.) Our boys ordered a burger and pasta off the kids' menu. The guy who has never met a burger he didn't like didn't like this one, and the pasta was served in a little pool of water, like it hadn't been fully drained. The place was packed and people eating around us seemed to be enjoying their meals. It felt like a little black cloud was hanging over our table.
