This seasonal restaurant on Rt 3 in Campton has wonderful seafood. It is light and fresh. Dining in in the mode of a lobster shack ,above the Pemi river, has covered and uncovered dining. A great use for a historic building.

I have gone back numerous times since my last review and have had several different items. The lobster roll is the best I've ever had.. wow... Turkey sandwich, burger, scallops etc are all sooo good! I just love the atmosphere :)
Great acting couple managing the place with very high standards.

This family owned restaurant has a compassion for perfectly prepared fresh seafood and other creative items. The fried clams are extraordinary, not over cooked and full of flavor. The haddock is equally delicate and fresh with taste.

My congratulations to this new young restaurant in maintaining such high standards. It's a pleasure to dine where local American seafood only is featured rather than frozen Asian products.

The self service allows for attractive pricing and combined with the excellant quality creates an exceptional value.

What a wonderful surprise to find they also serve Sandwich Creamy ice cream and shakes.

We will return several times a week.

You cannot imagine our delight & pride in this "find" 10 min. from our home. Succulent FRESH chunks of lobster generously packed into a large lightly buttered bun; the best lightly fried whole belly clams with their own homemade tartar sauce; piping hot creamy thick very "clammy" clam chowder; very fresh haddock not overly battered "fish and chips"; locally grown fresh corn.....need I say more! And overlooking the Pemi. River through the woods as you sit in what feels and looks like a tree house. Attached is a long time well known handmade crafts shop. Just go and you will be thrilled at the fresh tastes. Owners are relocated from Hawaii who are experienced fish mongers. They also offer locally made ice cream with many flavors.

And there were many things I do love about the Little Red Schoolhouse, unfortunately, the food is not one of those things.
The location and atmosphere can't be beat, mountains in the distance, glimpses of the Pemi below, the charming treehouse ambience, and clever decorating. There is also outdoor seating available at picnic tables, As another poster mentioned, the tractor seat bar stools may not be the most comfortable option for those of us with short legs, and even with mine turned to the lowest position, my feet barely reached a rung, but a minor inconvenience. We visited on a very busy Friday evening, and had to wait for a parking place; since many patrons only stop for take-out or ice cream, it only took a moment for a space to open . It was not clear where the line was, or how things worked, but we quickly figured out that it was open seating, counter-service, We waited 15 minutes for our order to be taken at the counter. There are printed menus along with offerings posted on overhead chalkboards (we noted price discrepancies). There is a separate list of the beers available and we were very pleased to note the local brews. You pay using a tablet and we were told a tip could be added electronically at that time (to mention that before any service or dining has taken place is a bit presumptuous). Once seated, we waited 30 minutes for our food, not too bad for a busy night, but long enough to require another short wait in line to order and pay for more drinks. It would be nice to have another option to get a second round. Being that we came for the food, this is where they fell flat on their face. Having lived for over 30 years on the seacoast, we love our seafood and were so excited to finally have a local source. The clam chowder was good, the local corn fresh and sweet but our scallop plates failed miserably. Instead of battered golden-brown, they were heavily breaded (almost the texture of canned bread crumbs), crusted to a deep brown color, way over-fried and very oily inside. The French fries were also overdone, actually black in places (some like them that way). When a server asked if we'd like to take the rest home, I expressed our dissatisfaction. She explained that they usually ARE served golden brown, but there was someone in training cooking that evening, She told us to come back another time and they would cook them perfectly for us. The prices are very reasonable but I'm not sure we would give any of their fried food a second chance, before observing what is coming out of the kitchen.
They do offer a breakfast menu and the lobster rolls looked delicious, so we will probably return to see how things are stacking up.
If I rated food alone, it would be a "1" based on our scallops and fries; the rating of three is for location, atmosphere, prices and menu offerings. I wish I could rate them higher, as we love the concept and location.

Hi there!
We are so sorry to hear about your experience here at the Schoolhouse. We care greatly about the food we provide and sincerely apologize that you did not like your dinner. It is unfortunate your scallops were not cooked properly, as we use fresh, never frozen sea scallops from right here in New England. We hope you will give us another chance to show you that we can indeed serve up delicious food! Thank you for your feedback.
