Worth the trip! A genuine french bakery in Colebrook NH. The bread and pastries are fantastic!

“Make yourself feel UNwelcome by going in”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 October 2009

When you get to Colebrook, NH, you're probably on your way even further north to The Balsams or even Canada; so most likely, the only reason to stop in this town is to eat, take a potty break, and have tea or coffee. We went into this seeming tearoom to do just that, but we were met with a most unfriendly entrepreneur who barely spoke when we came in from the cold weather. No menu was posted, so we asked if she had hot tea; and with her French listening ability, she thought we said something else and almost snapped at us. Her pastries are beautiful, and several apparent local customers came in while we were there to buy them. She didn't acknowledge that she knew them, either. When I asked how long she'd lived here (as her French accent was quite heavy), she replied, "Eight years." There is a great selection of wonderful cookies and breads, packaged spices and other cooking ingredients; but her unfriendliness and unwelcoming attitude made us want to leave quickly. The only has three small seating areas in there, so perhaps she doesn't really want walk-in tearoom business. On plus is that she has a few gluten-free bakery items. By admission, she doesn't accept "plastic cards;" so if you go in, be sure you have cash.
