As a Dover resident love to go to there out door stand and have a dog with all the trimmings for a pleasant out door lunch in the summer. They also have an indoor location at the end of Washington street that is open for breakfast and lunch.Nice people and a great Dover experience.

I eat about two hot dogs a year, typically at picnics but was visiting relatives in Dover and they took me to Downtown Dogs where most everything is home made and the quality of their food is amazing … fresh and simply delicious! Wish I lived closer because I'd definitely have more than two hot dogs a year!

The Seacoast Region which includes NH and Southern Maine communities has three Hot Dog Palaces---one in Cape Neddick, one in Kittery, and this one in Dover. This one is tops in Designer Dogs.

What makes Downtown Dogs special is that the owner makes most of his own condiments. Three that I especially like are:
- Etcetera Relish - An old-fashioned sweet relish
- Sweet Allium - An onion relish sweetened with molasses
- Downtown Dogs BBQ Sauce - A tangy barbecue sauce with medium heat

Downtown Dogs operates its kitchen out of the One Washington Street. In the summer, June through August from Thursday to Saturday from 11 AM to 3 PM, it sells out of a cart in the downtown area in the alley between 386 and 388 Central Avenue next to Nicole's Hallmark. Other months, it sells out of its first floor location at One Washington Street. Hours for Monday- Friday are 8:30 AM to 5 PM. Saturday hours are 11 AM to 3 PM.

Diners have a choice of beef or veggie dogs either grilled or steamed. From there, it's the diner's choice of condiments to create that special favorite hot dog.

The basic grilled or steamed hot dog is $2.75. A Kraut Dog is $3.00.

Some of the menu offerings for Designer Dogs include:
- Chicago Dog - All Beef Dog, Mustard, Sport Peppers, Relish, Kosher Dill Pickle, Tomato, Onion, Celery Salt on a Poppy Seed Bun
- The Dogfather - All Beef Dog, all Beef Savory Chili, Bacon, Grilled Onions with Grated Cheese on a Poppy Seed Bun
- Chili Cheese Dog - All Beef Hot Dog, Homemade all Beef Savory Chili with Grated Cheese on a Poppy Seed Bun
- B.O.B. Dog - All Beef Hot Dog with Bacon, Onions, Barbecue Sauce, on a Poppy Seed Bun then topped with Grated Cheese
Prices range from $3.75 to $4.50.

Veggie Dogs include the Grilled Veggie Dog, Veggie Kraut Dog, and Veggie Chicago Dog. Prices range from $3.00 to $3.75.

Soda, chips, and water are available.

I visited at the indoor location for a steamed dog with mustard, his Sweet Allium Relish, and his special Etcetera Relish, plus a dash of celery salt. It was great.
