We are just completing our first year of seasonal camping at Exeter Elms after spending 11 years at another Southern New Hampshire campsite. We have had a very positive camping experience at Exeter Elms. The campground is well maintained and we have found both the staff and the other seasonals to be extremely friendly. The new owners, Audra & Dana Anderson have put a lot of effort and money into upgrading the facitlities and continue to invest in new improvements. The weekend activities are always well planned out and there is a great variety of choices. We are very pleased that we moved to Exeter Elms -

An awesome campground; full of activities. The owners apparently take pride in what they do. Friendly family camping, great showers (clean), beautiful pool and weekend entertainment. Cannot wait to go back next year!

We chose this campground due to it's location to Hampton Beach, and that it rented out cabins. Once we checked in, we realized they only had one furnished cabin. The smell inside was overwhelming, a combination of cat urine, mold and mildew. The kitchen and bathroom were visibly dirty, counters, sink, floors, toilet were all filthy. At check in, they told us they had just defrosted the freezer, and it had leaked a little on the carpet, but that they opened the windows to air the place out. We went back to the office to complain, and were told to go to the local Walmart, purchase Febreeze and air freshners, and they would reimburse us the cost. With no where else to go, and a non-refundable place to stay, we did this. I spent the first hour of my vacation sanitizing the kitchen and bathroom for my family to use. The smell never did go away, but the constant spraying of Febreeze made it tolerable. We only were there to sleep. The campground itself is very run down and dirty. The seasonal campers are rude and unfriendly to "renters". Many of the seasonal sites are littered with junk and trash, and the trailers are filthy. For what we paid, we expected nicer facilities.

the river was dark brown and all around it was marshy bug infested areas. the firepit was full of water, 7 inches to be exact. granted we had some rain, but after 24 hours of dry weather it was still too wet to have a fire. The other campers were mostly rude. The electrical hook ups were scary, all taped up and nailed to trees. I laughed and said "as if" when I saw a review about an autobody shop at one of the camp sites.... well they were right... this one site had truck doors, truck cabs, and all kinds of stuff all piled up all over the place. Most seasonal sites were a mess. The bathrooms were about a 2 Star... only gave it a two because the water was hot... 2.5 mins per quarter. Two stalls were covered in Crap... covered... as well as with other things... oh I could go on and on. STAY AWAY! ? Worst Camping Trip I been on... and I have been on a TON!

When we checked in on Friday night we were given a flier with information about weekend activities. One of the activities was a concert on Saturday night from 8pm-10pm. I didn't give it much thought - figured it would be held somewhere on the campground where one would have to travel to to enjoy (perhaps a rec hall or in the office?) and that it would be perhaps a guitar and a piano .. at most? Nope. We got back to our campsite at 9:30pm and the sound of the live band (drums, guitars, and amps turned up as loud as they would go) reverberated inside of our tent - keeping our beach-exhausted young children awake and grumpy. The concert, that on the paper claimed it would go "just" til 10 didn't wrap up until 10:30pm! I was almost thankful for the rain that stopped the rowdy drunks (swearing up and down the road all Friday night) from making another 3am appearance near our campsite. My daughter's hands were covered in sand flea bites when she woke up on Sunday morning. The sites are very heavily wooded and tent sites are jammed in close to one another.

The ads for this campground say "Family" but DO NOT reserve here if you believe that camping should be a relaxing and quiet commune with nature. Seasonal sites are littered with debris by long-time campers who have long since stopped caring about picking up after themselves or washing mold off of their filthy r.v.'s. The "playground' in the tent section was just a few swings and a metal slide wedged into a grove of trees.

Spend a few extra dollars and reserve EARLY at nearby Wakeda Campground if you're looking for a truly relaxing family experience. My sister and her family reserved there and we decided to join them at the last minute. Unfortunately we didn't reserve in time so made our reservations at this dump instead. I've learned my lesson and will never reserve without reading the reviews again.

We spent a long weekend here and the campground has some very clear pros and cons.

CONS
- The sites are right on top of each other (tent and RV sites). After 11 the site next to us was observing the quiet rules but we could still clearly hear their whispers as we tried to sleep.
- The "river" is more of a stagnant swamp, there's no swimming in it and no fish to be seen. Even after a night of decent rain fall the "river" had no current or movement to it, just the mucky brown surface. Looked man made to us!
- The wood they sold on-site was $6!!! for a small bundle. Even after we drove further up 108 to get groceries the cheapest we could find was $11 for two slightly larger bundles. Exeter is not a camping/forest town where you drive and find folks selling cheap wood off the main roadways.

PROS
- The activities for the kids were wonderful on Saturday and Sunday, great if you have kids and like to do the large ground family activities. We were there for Carnival weekend.
- The playgrounds were okay for the kids. A little small but if you're site is near the playgrounds it's an easy way for them to entertain themselves.
- The bathroom facilities were maintained okay-ish. They were clean compared to some other campgrounds and the staff seemed to attend to the clogs in a fairly timely manner and we never had to wait more than 1 person inline to get a stall (ladies&gents)
- Only a few $ extra/day for a RV site w/ water and electric hookup was nice for us to put up 2 adult tents and a small kid tent but not too much room left for parking, cooking, hanging out.
- The pool wasn't too crowded and everyone there was pretty nice and respectful of each other.

We don't often camp at the same places (or states for that matter) and for that reason and a few of the cons listed above we will probably not come back here again.
