This is a unique property, both in the design of the building and the view of the mountain that it affords. The Guest House is attached to the owner's home but is completely separate, so while we felt well taken care of we also felt like we were in our own space. We happened to be the only guests there at the time, but the layout of the house is such that even with more people I doubt it would feel crowded.
We were a family of 3, staying for 2 nights in August for some hiking and a visit with friends at a local camp. Pauline took great care of us, preparing a delicious breakfast both mornings and giving us advice on the best restaurants for dinner. Breakfast was ample and filling, without being fussy: pancakes or french toast, eggs, yogurt, fruit and cinnamon rolls, plus coffee/tea/juice. Helpfully, there is a small fridge in the common room where guests can store food of their own. We had a busy agenda for both days so we did not spend much time just hanging out on the property, but the common living area and porch are so well-appointed and comfortable that I would consider making a separate trip just to sit by the enormous fireplace and enjoy the view of the mountains. I am sure that this is a wonderful place to stay during ski season.
The 3 guest rooms, which overlook the common area from an interior balcony, are snug but very comfortable, with traditional quilts, comfortable mattresses and windows facing the best view. There is also a wide porch facing the mountains and a stunningly beautiful green lawn punctuated by a few apple trees, which a bear visited during our stay.
I would recommend this for any travelers but especially for a larger group that wanted to rent the whole house at once - the layout is ideal for that.
Thank you Tom and Pauline for such a lovely stay, and for making such a beautiful place available to visitors to Franconia.
