“Nice decor average food and service”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 July 2013 via mobile

We had dinner and breakfast here while we were staying at the inn. The food was pretty good but nothing special. Service was ok as it was mostly a younger wait staff. They are very adamant about having reservations for dinner but they sat us anyway. The dining room is very nice. The whole place has a historic decor.

“Not fine dining but food was decent”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 November 2012

After coming to the area off season we did not have many dining options. We chose the Fanconia Inn because it had great reviews from diners as well as the Boston Globe. However, I felt somewhat mislead.

It's a strange place...
1. There was a wedding in the main dining room and they wanted to seat us in that room. We chose to sit in the smaller dining room but it was quite loud due to the wedding next door. When we asked to have them close the door everyone looked at us like we were strange, although they did and then it was better. Also they declined to tell us the wedding was going on when we called for reservations earlier that day.
2. The waitress was well intentioned but she was a bit unprofessional. She smelled our food and the cork on our wine bottle and commented on how delicious everything looked quite frequently.
3. The whole place needed a facelift. It felt more like a ski lodge and not fine dining. The carpets and window hairs were quite old and smelled a little weird.
4. We were told at 9 the dining room was closing but we could take our wine bottle down to the lounge area. This was a cute bar like place but was not a cozy quiet environment that we had come there for.
5. The food itself was quite good but a little heavy.
6. Wine list is appropriately priced.

All in all we probably wouldn't choose to go back but if we found ourselves there it would probably be ok.

“Why did I wait so long?”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 October 2012

15 years ago my husband and I had our first stay at Franconia Inn. We have stayed at various inns and B & B's since then. We decided to go back, spur of the moment and called for a reservation. The woman on reservations was extremely nice and helpful and even offered to give us our original room. Our room was spacious and comfortable. The bed was so comfortable we couldn't believe it. We were lucky enough to go up on a beautiful Indian summer day. There is a bar area downstairs that is cozy and comfortable. We sat on the deck, walked the grounds, watched the horsed grazing. We chose the MAP plan and were extremely pleased. The food was exceptional and with the meal plan extremely reasonable. My husband and I each had different meals and enjoyed every morsel. The wait staff was attentive. The breakfast was also wonderful!. We could not figure out why we had not returned sooner!? After taking in the scenery in the area we decided we would come back more often! Although we were told that the foliage was past peak my husband noted that it was not past beautiful.

“Still Wonderful”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 September 2012

I have been vacationing in Franconia for 50 years. The restaurant at the Franconia Inn is even better than ever. We had four different main courses-all delicious and attractive. The service was good, the ambiance charming. It was a pleasure to revist this restaurant.

“The perfect combination: elegant, relaxed, delicious ...”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 June 2010

We didn't stay in the Franconia Inn but ate in their truly elegant restaurant. The building has all the charm of "Old New England" but is superbly well-kept. We were seated in the small dining room with a fire in the fireplace and a cushioned bay window. The menu combines traditional recipes with modern finesse: perfect ceaser salad, delicious New England Clam Chowder, and an exquisite salmon steal in strawberry balsamico sauce are just a few examples. Their creme brulee was my crowing conclusion to a superb meal. The service is professional and friendly, creating a relaxed atmosphere without taking away from the feel of fine dining. For a romantic or special dinner or just when you want something delicious, it is very worth a visit!
