Recently stayed at the Hillwinds for 4 nights. Price was very reasonable, amenities were standard for this type of hotel and area, staff was VERY friendly and accommodating. The room and bathroom were neat and clean and it was QUIET. We did not hear neighbors at all. I would recommend Hillwinds to all!

We are yearly visitors to the area, and we usually stayed either in Bethlehem at a family colony, or at a major hotel in nearby towns. But we were glad to find out about "Hillwinds Lodge", where we enjoyed our stay.

The room, the beds, the linen, even the carpet and everything else in the room, as well as the whole property, and the pool and area, everything is really clean, and well taken care of.

We took 2 rooms at the river front, and enjoyed the nature tranquil setting, we ate dinner and breakfast on the picnic table in front of the river, enjoyed the pool, and late evening sat around a nice relaxing camp-fire at the fireplace area in center of the property.

There are 2 hiking trails just in back of the property, that we didn't have the chance yet to check out, as we headed out to the areas major attractions, but would love to check out when we come back.

The hosts are here to please and accommodate, and it made our stay a pleasure, and most definitely plan to return in the future g-d wiling.

Room Tip: Upper lever has somewhat a higher ceiling then the lower level. River Front rooms cost a little mor...

Of the many motor lodge type motels we've stayed at, Hillwinds is definitely the nicest. The room was clean with an updated bathroom. The exterior was well maintained and nestled right next to a nice little river. The pool was clean and there were some fun games such as badminton and corn hole. The room rate was very reasonable. We would definitely stay here again.

Great place to stay . Affordable,Quiet ,Clean,Comfortable. Beautiful location on the Gale River. River side rooms offer beautiful views of the Gale River. Pet friendly. We had our little Buddy with us so we stayed Poolside . All rooms have AC,TV's ,Microwaves,Coffe makers, Fridges and porches to sit out on and enjoy the view . Beautiful ( heated ) outdoor Pool. Most times you have it all to yourself. BBQ's and Picnic tables on the river and by the pool . Free Continental breakfast best assortment I have seen lots to choose from ( bagles, raisinbread, english muffins 'cereals ,muffins, danish, tea's,juices ,milk and Great Coffee.) Breakfast area has large windows that give great views of the river. May even get to see humming birds on the feeders . Great way to start the day. Hiking trail that goes through the woods and follows the river to a great swiming hole. Gale River is stocked with trout and is a great spot to fish. Lots to do and see close by. If you want to get away from the crowds this is the place to go. The hosts are some of the nicest people you'll ever meet. They will go out of there way to make your stay enjoyable. Very helpful and knowledgeable about the area . Cant wait to come back next summer .

Room Tip: River side units offer great views of the Gale River .

It was so good to be able to come back here Again. We have stayed here every summer for over 10 years . The hosts Tina and Deane are the best. They will go out of there way to help make your stay enjoyable. The location could not be any nicer . It sits right on the banks of the beautiful Gale RIver. We usually stay in the river side units but we had our dog with us so we stayed in the pool side units. I highly recommend the river side. Sitting out on the porch morning, noon or evenings watching and listening to the river is just so relaxing. They offer a FREE contental breakfast ( english muffins, bagles, bread, rasin bread, cerals, muffins, danish,GREAT coffee, OJ,Milk, an assortment of herbal teas, fruits and, yougart) Toasters ,butter ,jams, Jellies and cream cheese ) you can eat in the breakfast area which offers great views of the Gale River or you can take it back to your room or better yet sit at one of the picnic tables on the river or by the pool. Beautiful Pool that never gets crowded most times you have it all to yourself. They even have towels at the pool and pool toys for the kids. Theres a volleyball/badmitten net in the grass next to the pooltoo! The Gale River is a great place to catch yourself a trout, get your feet wet and best of all it is safe for kids ( knee high so even the little ones can enjoy). the water is Crystal clear !!! There is a great hiking trail right on the property that takes you though the woods and runs along the river to as great swiming hole up stream for you big kids lol. A short easy level 15-20 walk. Its quiet and private you wont be disapointed . If you want to BBQ they have BBQ's and picnic tables by the pool and on the river. They add a beautiful wooden swing chair .You can sit and watch the river . Theres a new fire pit in law by the pool with comfortable wooden chairs to sit and enjoy the fire . You can go for a walk into town , theres a park ,Museum ,libary, super market, general store, 3 restaurants, coffe shop, sport store all within a short walk ( 5-10 minutes) I recomend stoping by the Iron Furnace one of the last standing iron melting furnaces that is still intact. also a short walk from the hotel. Beautiful views everywhere you look .Another place is the Robert Frost house. A short drive from the hotel. They have poetry readings and a nature path with some of Robert Frosts pomes .You can even rent a bike and ride around town . Close to all White Mtn attractions . Best place to stay In the White Mtns .

Room Tip: River Side units all are right on the banks of the Gale River. They accept pets but you have to stay...

Stayed here while doing a tour a road trip through New England and only stayed here one night.

Front desk woman was extremely helpful and answered all of my questions and provided some helpful tips on what was around the lodge.
We ended up driving to Littleton for dinner, just a quick 10 min drive away.

Check in was easy and there was ample parking.

Room was dated but has been kept extremely clean and very tidy.
The room was fairly large with all the amenities (TV, hairdryer, coffee maker, mini fridge and microwave) and two beds. The beds were a little too soft and squishy for our liking but comfortable.

Toilet/Shower room was very tiny, while using facilities you touched the wall, but the water pressure in the shower was awesome (I like high pressure showers). The sink area was also a little dated, but everything was very clean and worked fine.

Great location in Franconia, loved that it was right by the river and you could sit out on the lounge chairs out front your room and enjoy the view.

Breakfast was included in the room rate but we left before breakfast begun.

We stayed here because we wanted to take the Cog Railway steam train up Mount Washington and wanted to be somewhere close by. This was the perfect location and only a 30—35 min drive to the Cog Railway in the morning.

Clean, comfortable, nice room, and had a great stop over. We would stay here again!

Room Tip: Make sure you ask for a room facing the river.

Because it is not directly in Lincoln or Woodstock, Hillwinds is a little less expensive than other motels in the area. The rooms, ground, and pool are immaculate, the wifi signal is decent. They also offer free long-distance calling in North America, which was great as I didn't have cel reception.

There are some trails behind the motel if you want an early-morning walk, you're equidistant from Franconia Notch State Park and Littleton, and there's free breakfast too. The owners are friendly and accommodating. This was my second stay, and I would absolutely return again next year.

Room Tip: The hotel allows pets, but there are a limited number of rooms, so be sure to ask before you come. Y...
