“Great location, friendly staff, excellent stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 October 2011

We were in Hampton Beach in early October for the Smuttynose marathon, and stayed at Ashworth by the Sea for two days. We chose the executive king room with ocean view and balcony for our stay. The hotel's location is excellent, directly across the street from the beach and about a block from numerous shops and restaurants. We were very happy with our bright, spacious and nicely appointed room, which had a panoramic view of the ocean. The sizable bathroom was immaculate, and had a walk-in shower big enough for two. The Ashworth has a "quiet after ten p.m." rule, and was indeed very peaceful. Hotel and restaurant staff were uniformly friendly, helpful, and professional. We had a fine breakfast at the Wharfside Coffee Shop (brioche egg sandwiches! real oatmeal!) and an even better lunch at the Breakers Restaurant (lobsters!). We would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: There was some street noise in our room (traffic and passersby). We stayed at the end of the season...

Went to the Ashworth on a Living Social deal - it was very good - especially with the Living Social discount - food was so good we ate there for both lunch and dinner, as well as drinks, where at the Breakers they are offering $2 pints - any draft they carry for $2 from 2-4PM - Guinness and Stella included - will be back again, fun, friendly, and across from the beach for a walk -

I spent 3 days, Sunday - Tuesday at the Ashworth last week. This was off season and most of the area shops were closed but the Ashworth was going strong. They have good communication with email, friendly check in staff and a very nice room. Parking was available in front, a rear lot, or small under building garage. The weather was rainy most of the time and the only parking found was in the back or garage. I used the garage and was happy to have an entrance to Hotel from there. The front parking was always full.

The breakfast shop was great with fast, friendly, service. The main restraurant was also good but we got a forgetful waitress. Could have been her first table but we made the best of it and it wasn't a big deal.

I would return here again, in season it must be very busy as it's across the street from Hampden Beach and walking distance to the shops.

Room Tip: This room was booked online throught Travel Zoo for a nice discount, again it was off season but well...

This was my second stay at The Ashworth and it was even better the second time around. It is THE place to stay if you are seeing a concert at one of the local venues. Even the band picked this hotel so we got to "star watch" after the show! The front desk staff was friendly and accommodating. Our waiter at The Breakers was great! Plus you can't beat the ocean view patios! I will be back!

My husband and I choose to stay at this hotel for the last night of our honeymoon after purchasing a LivingSocial deal that the hotel was offering.
Upon arrival, the front desk staff was less than welcoming, but the place looked really nice, so we remained hopeful. We went to go check out the indoor poor to take a quick dip before dinner, but you couldn't even see the sides of the pool, much less the bottom. We skipped the pool.
After settling in, we went downstairs to the attached restaurant "the Breakers" for dinner, only to experience more poor service.
Our waitress did brought out each drink and plate separately. By the time I finally got my starter salad, a half hour into dinner, it came out with thick glaze on it intended for meat, instead of salad dressing.
My portabella fettuccini alfredo was missing the mushrooms, and the chicken had clearly been microwaved. When I spoke with the manager, he didn't even deny that it was!
Discouraged with the whole experience, we went back to our room. I became physically ill from the food, and tried to lay down to settle my stomach. After 20 minutes of lying on the horrible bed my hip started going numb (I'm 27, not normal!) It became clear that I could not sleep on that bed all night, so we packed up and checked out, only 4 hours after we checked in (with about 2 1/2 hours spent in the horrible restaurant ran by the hotel.
After calling about refunding our money, I was told that we could not have a refund because we violated the "cancellation policy", because we did not notify them a week ahead of time that we would not be staying the whole night.
The whole experience was extremely frustrating, and an unfortunate way to end our honeymoon.
I wouldn't stay at this hotel again if they payed me.

Room Tip: Save yourself a headache and stay somewhere else!

Dear Valued Guest,
Thank You for choosing to stay at the Ashworth by the Sea Hotel. We would like to apologize for the condition of our pool, guest room and dining experience at our Breakers Restaurant during your recent stay. There is no excuse for a lack of service or attention to detail regarding your experiences with us. Please be assured we have spoken with the rooms manager about the condition of the bed as well as the Executive Chef regarding quality of food. Our Restaurant Manager will be retraining our staff on service and guest hospitality in addition to food knowledge. We hope you will give us another chance to prove to you that what you experienced was not the norm, but the exception.

Sincerely,
Peter Coutis,
General Manager

The hotel is a nice hotel, although a little overpriced for it's location though. It is the nicest hotel in Hampton Beach though. The bathrooms have been updated, but that seems to be where they spent most of their money on the room upgrades. The beds were comfortable and the room views are worth any of the smaller issues with the room. You just have to keep in mind it's an older hotel that has been updated, and it's a beach front hotel that sees all types of weather during the winter months.
The balconies are small, but when you're sitting there with a drink in hand it doesn't seem to matter. You can always go out to a roof top deck and kick back for great beach views.
The food in their main restaraunt was pretty tastey as well. I highly recommend the prime rib, it was cooked perfectly. The breakfast buffet was worth the money if you like a big breakfast.
We didn't get a chance to use the pool, but it looked clean and up to date. It's nice to have that as an option incase the beach weather isn't perfect.
Just keep in mind if you have a room where you can see into hotel rooms in the other tower they can also see you. We got to see an "early full moon" from one of the guests across the way that made for a pretty funny experience. Just keep that in mind if you want to keep your blinds shut for the sliding glass doors.
The staff is amazing, extremely friendly and helpful. Even the valet guys were good guys. You can tell they are local students looking to make some pocket money, but they were always professional and friendly.
If you're staying at Hampton Beach, this is the place to stay.

Room Tip: If you're a couple the upgrade to the beach front view is worth it.
