“Three night minimum!”
Reviewed 24 August 2013

We have stayed here many times and have always been able to rent a room for one or two nights. We were always pleased with the room. Recently, however, they are getting just way too difficult to deal with. We ended up at Hampton Beach last weekend and decided we would like to stay Saturday night and walked into this motel to inquire about getting a room for just one night and they wouldn't even talk to us unless we were willing to pay for three nights! The woman at the desk stated "we have rooms for three nights, nothing available for one night!" What? Isn't one night better than no nights? I can understand maybe requiring Friday and Saturday nights, but whoever wants to stay Sunday night on the weekend?!? Especially with the rates you pay for these motel rooms in this area! The majority of people work Monday-Friday and have weekends off! We went to Janmere and they were happy for the one night business.

Room Tip: Sunny Side are the better rooms

Hello KD from West Rutland VT.

I am sorry that you were turned away from the office without a room, it is our business to rent rooms.

However, throughout the past 40 years we have managed properties in Hampton Beach and come to learn the patterns of when to ask for a minimum night stay; sometimes it is a 2 NT minimum (weekdays), sometimes it is a 3 NT minimum (weekends), depending on the unit it may even be more, larger apartments require weekly rentals.

No not everyone is looking for a 1 or 2 night visit and I know our policy did not work for your needs but it does for the majority of our guests. Our primary clientele generally books for 3 or more nights at a time. In theory if we were to rent all of our rooms on a given day for just that night we are actually sending away more business than just that 1 night rental. Because the traveller looking to arrive afterwork on that day may be looking to rent for the next 3 or 4 nights. Now that we have sold the room for 1 NT we have just lost out on the rest of the weekend. A bigger loss than the 1 NT rental.

These minimums are not required on all days, it would depend on the day of the week, the time of the season and the availability of rooms. Between all of our properties we manage 65 units, not once this season have we lost the rental of a room for a given night based upon the requirement of these minimum stays. We are not out there to mandate that you stay when you do not want to and understand that there are other places willing to fill their accommodations one day at a time.

NOTE to anyone looking for a short term rental we suggest that you call us in advance to check on the availability of a room for 1 or 2 nights. There are times, they do not happen often, when we have short term opening that day. These rooms are usually sold out first thing in morning.

We had plans to visit Hampton on a Tuesday and 4 days before that, we had a death in the family. The only way we could salvage our vacation day would be if we could switch that to Thursday. The manager, Michael Roy, bent over backwards to ensure that we could make the switch. Most other motels would have said 'sorry' and we would have forfeited the money due to their cancellation policies. The room was excellent and clean and we enjoyed our stay. But again, kudos to the manager for treating us with respect and dignity!! We will definitely stay there again!

Very clean room which is my biggest issue when staying anywhere. I don't care how fancy a place is...it has to be clean! The staff were so pleasant as well. There was a couple arguing one evening during our stay and the overnight staff person handled it beautifully! He was a young 20 year old young man from Romania who obviously took his job very seriously. He didn't ignore it...he kept going over to the couple to address how loud they were being and that they needed to keep things down. I was so impressed by him! Everyone was very nice and very attentive. The pool was very clean also, and warm. The location is perfect...not on the main strip, but one block back...perfect...you can get away from the noise, yet just be a two minute walk back to the strip if you want...which is what we did...we went back and forth. We were there 3 nights/4 days and never had to use the car once! I would certainly go back!

After reading some of the reviews we were apprehensive about staying at the Marguerite motel.
However my wife and I decided to take a chance and find out for ourselves first hand.
What a pleasant surprise we had during our stay.
The staff at the front desk were courteous, efficient and most helpful in dealing with any
questions or requests we had. Everything was handled promptly.
The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. The pool and surrounding area was well
maintained.
We would definitely stay at this motel again and recommend it to others.
We stayed at other motels in Hampton Beach and this was the best by far.
Our thanks to the management and staff of this motel. Keep up the good work!!

After staying in unkept hotels for 3 years, it was refreshing to stay at a location that actually has pride and values their establishment. Everything from the office, the parking lot, stairways, room, bathroom, and pool area were immaculate. The front desk clerk greeted us with our keys, contract, a coupon for 15 percent off at McGuirk's (yummy btw), the wifi password, and details on a fishing trip that I had asked about months prior. Our room was bright and inviting. The mattresses were very comfortable. There was a flat screen tv, modern and spotless microwave and freezer/fridge combo, beautiful flags and decorative flowers hung on the balcony... and I swear... round the clock staff cleaning. The parking lot was being swept at night and the second I woke up, I'd see the pool and surrounding area being cleaned. Our room was always left tidy, with plenty of fresh towels. The chairs and table on the balcony were wiped, and ashtrays changed to fresh ones. They really impressed me with their attention to detail. This was a far cry from the other places that I've stayed at. I will never stay at a different place again. The Marguerite has my business every summer from now on. Thank you so much for making us feel like we were home.

We paid $219.00 plus tax per night..Plus they took a $50.00 deposit in case you stole anything. It was like staying with trailer trash. Place was very tacky... Flat pillows and crappy mattresses, no lotion or conditioner, just a tiny tube of shampoo and thin soap. Place smelled of mildew and the manager was rude and very unfriendly. Don't expect to get ice, unless you pay $2.00 for a 5lb bag, Our room was near the pool, so it was noisy as expected, but a family of Hispanics (about 20 people) overtook the area with there boom box, tent, and claiming the two grills and picnic tables the entire days. Couldn't open our drapes because people were sit in the chairs out side our room the entire time. Don't go there!!

Room Tip: Don't stay there

Hello SunshineC,

I am sorry that the room was not as private as you would have liked, as you said youself " Our room was near the pool, so it was noisy as expected," But we do not set restrictions on how much fun people can have in or around the pool area, also including the grilling areas nearby. Since the room is just outside the pool fence and the weather was great during the 2 days of your visit many of the guests ended up in the pool area to enjoy the water and sunshine.

As far as a crowd of about 20, a family group, which represented 4 rooms spent a great deal of time using the grills and picnic area nearest the pool on one of the afternoons. We happen to have 2 of these grilling areas and 4 grills and 5 picnic tables in all. When this family was asked to make way for other guests to use the 2nd grill in the area nearest the pool they quickly moved the tent to one side, they lowered the volume, and welcomed others from the motel to join in. Everyone seemed to have a good time. At no other time during their 4 day visit did they ever block the grilling areas like they did on one occassion.

Except for the time when your off-site guests were asked not to enter the property with their dogs (2 large boxers) did we even have a chance to talk. I suppose the rules that you read and signed at check in that refer to 2 of these issues; off-site guests and no pet allowed probably did not apply to you. I know that one of your party and the woman with the dogs seemed to be put off by my request for the dogs to not go farther than the office. Sorry but we do not permit pets on the premises except for specific areas, of which your rooms were not located in.

The other issues are all part of your opinion, that the place was like staying with trailer trash, that the pillows were too flat, that the shampoo & soap inadequate... on and on. It is just that everyone else has their own opinion about the quality of the people, the Motel and the beach in general and aren't as insulting as yours, especially your references to others being trailer trash and emphasizing that the family group just happened to be Hispanic. No one else seemed to care who or what they were, everyone was just enjoying their time with friends and family.

The room was comfortable and clean.
We loved the heated pool, when the weather was cold to go to the beach.
The only problem was the strong sound of the dryer machine that was working right under our room.
For the rest, we enjoy our days at Hampton Beach.
