“Always superb!”
Reviewed 26 August 2013

We have been dining at the Hancock Inn for over 20 years, from birthday celebrations, New Year's Eve dinners, girls night out, couples - you name it. It has gone through many changes, and has always been superb.
The most recent dinner was this weekend with my husband, and we ate in the new dining area at the back of the inn. It was a bit chilly to eat out on the patio, but they did have the door open so we could hear the live music.
Our dinners were excellent, service great. We will be back. Great little historic town, and this is a great place to branch out from to enjoy the area.

We went to the town's Old Home Day. We have stayed there before with past owners. The new owners have made very nice changes. Nice outside patio, great breakfast room, in a charming new England town. The owners are very hands on in your stay and make you feel at home. There is a lot of history in the Inn and town. The cemetary has many stones dating back to the 1700"s. There is a Paul Revere bell in the church. We will be back

We have traveled extensively and stayed in many different hotels, apartments and B&B's. And of all the B&B's we have stayed in, I would rank this one at the top. No detail was left untouched to make our stay as comfortable as possible. The authentically decorated rooms, the cozy public spaces with tea and coffee 24/7, the many brochures and info on the area, the stories of the history of the Inn and the list goes on.
And how to even begin to describe the luscious and scrumptious breakfast....home made granola, fruit, eggs of your choice and more. You will have to taste all this for yourselves when you get to stay at this gem.
To top it all, Jarvis & Marcia Coffin, the Innkeepers were everything you would hope innkeepers should be... friendly, knowledgeable and very attentive.

I had the pleasure of spendin nine days at the Hancock Inn and they will be some of my most memorable. The owners, Marcia and Jarvis Coffin are delightful. You could not ask for more attentive and charming innkeepers. They want you to be comfortable and happy and will go the extra mile to make that happen. The breakfasts are generous and delicious. I could go on and on about the dinners as well, I tried nearly everything on the menu and was in heaven on each occasion. You could hear the very same amongst the other diners. Trust me, after nine evenings, you pick up on these things. If you happen to dinner one evening, be sure to say hello to Andrea..she will make you feel right at home as do the rest of the staff. As for the rooms, mine was comfortable and had eveything that I could possibly need. I chose one of the smaller rooms, if not the smallest and was very comfortable. As a woman travelling on my own, I felt right at home. I prefer B&B's when I travel and I have stayed in quite a few. The Hancock Inn is at the top of my list and I imagine will be there for quite some time. I look forward to my next visit, I hope you do too!

We enjoyed a fabulous evening at the Hancock Inn restaurant for a family birthday celebration. The private dining room was perfect for our group of 10, the service was superior, the food was wonderful and the atmosphere could not have been better. Out-of-town cousins stayed overnight - one with a dog - and raved about the beds and delicious breakfast. Jarvis and Marcia Coffin went out of their way to make sure the evening was a success for all - including the dog. Lovely inn, grounds and town. Highly recommended.

I can't add much to the praise already heaped on this fine inn. We stayed in the Rufus Porter room, which is decorated with folk-art landscape murals by the itinerant artist. It was a cozy corner room with its own bath, a very comfortable bed, and a charmingly uneven floor. Breakfast (included in the room rate) was served in the Tavern, a sunny room overlooking the back yard. Both days included homemade granola and a complimentary baked good along with the dishes we ordered; it all was quite tasty. The dinner we had was also lovely, with the menu perfectly suited to an upscale country inn. The staff was universally welcoming, cheerful, and helpful-- including Potter, a golden retriever who seemed to show up at just the right moments.

We have visited the Inn on several occasions for dinner but this was our first stay. The staff was friendly' accommodating and helpful. They made us both feel right at home' even part of the family! The dining was AMAZING!! I expected the diner to be great but was really surprised and "wowed" by the delicious homemade breakfast and the attentiveness of our hosts. We can't wait to stay again.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Hancock Inn is a historic property in Hancock, New Hampshire. Built in 1789, it is New Hampshire's oldest continuously operating inn. The inn has 14 rooms for overnight accommodations that are exceptionally well-appointed with period antiques and inclusive of modern amenities, such as in-room chargers, waffle-weave spa robes, flat screen televisions with built-in DVD and wifi throughout the building. Many rooms have gas or electric fireplaces. There are numerous common areas around the inn for the enjoyment of our guests, upstairs and down. The two sitting rooms on the first floor, one with with a Rumford fireplace, are hallmarks of the inn's warmth and hospitality, separating it from the usual of being away, making it feel closer to home. Outside, the inn's 1.5 acres of gardens and field (which includes a professionally maintained croquet pitch in the summer) connect visitors to the Monandock region's preserved landscape and scenery. In the winter, join countless avid snowshoers and cross country skiers and, other times, experience the lakes, rivers and trails that crisscross our corner of the world. The inn's fine dining restaurant, The Fox Tavern, is open seven nights a week. The farm-to-table menu features New England favorites relying on locally raised beef, pork and poultry, plus cheese, fruits and vegetables from area growers, including vegetables from our own gardens. The Tavern's reknowned, cooked-to-order breakfast is served complimentary to house guests. Come to the Hancock Inn and learn why it has been characterized as "the near perfect expression of the New England village inn." ... more   less
