Canoe Club is a nice atmosphere with a good wine list. Too bad they don't do food to match.
We came for a late lunch. Small plates - here's the rundown:
--gnocchi: goopy and bland
--beet salads: wilted bag spinach from the grocer, virtually undressed.
-- curry chicken salad: better but still sitting on curled dead greens.
Ever hopeful (and still hungry) we ordered dessert:
-- apple galet: in the freezer too long, we had a hard time cutting it with a knife. My parents indicated they preferred the apple galet at the dining room of their retirement home!
-- chocolate pecan torte: good crust/ but what is that brown gelatinous stuff?
-- ice cream-- really? Out of a flavor listed as a staple on the menu. And there must be someone in the kitchen whose afraid of running out of everything else: how else does a $2 teaspoon happen in the land of dairy?
All served with that smug air of "aren't we special" and the truth is, no, you are not.
