The Manor on Golden Pond

My boyfriend and I recently stayed at the Manor on Golden Pond. I was delighted with how friendly the staff was from my initial phone call to reserve the room. When we arrived the Innkeepers were very helpful giving us a short tour of the inn and even taking the time to print directions to local attractions and confirm hours of operation.

We stayed in the Avon room and were very happy with the amenities including large comfortable bed and huge jacuzzi (complete with a rubber ducky, bath salts and a bath mitt!). The water pressure in the shower wasn't the greatest and the room was a little hot during the night, but other than that we were very pleased. Another nice touch was a welcome letter awaiting us in our room customized with our names!

The food was to die for...and the setting was very romantic. We were there duirng the off-season so the inn was very quiet and we were one of two couples in the entire dining room. I escpecially liked the after dinner chocolate covered strawberries given to us to take to our room and the warm cookies that awaited us after our turndown service! For breakfast, my boyfriend commented that the French Toast "was the best he's ever had" and proceeded to order it every morning we were there!

Overall, I would definitely recommend the Manor on the Golden Pond to New England travelers. To be honest, I was surprised by some of the negative reviews I read. Our experience was completely different...not sure if the Inn has improved considering some of the more negative reviews were from a few years ago.

We reserved the off-season Spring Special so our incredible dinner and breakfast were included for $249/night. The dinner special did not include drinks or gratuity...but it wasn't a big deal for us considering we don't typically order alcoholic beverages. I definitely feel as though we got our money's worth. Not sure I would pay the average $385+/night rate for a high-season weekend, but I will certainly keep my eyes peeled for future inn specials!! I would love to return in the fall or summer when more of the local attractions are open.

My husband and I were looking for a romantic, luxurious, relaxing New England vacation and chose the Manor on Golden Pond. We were not disappointed, and would recommend this property to anyone seeking such an experience. The staff, from the owners to the servers and housekeeping team, were all exceptional. We were treated like VIPs the whole stay, including checks for us on local skiing conditions, highlighted maps for great local road trips and reservations for nearby restaurants. The food at the inn was also very good. The location, in New Hampshire's beautiful Lakes District, didn't disapopint either. Our room, like many at the manor, looked out on Squam Lake. Our room had an extremely comfortable bed that was made up every morning while we were at breakfast and turned down every evening. The public rooms at the manor were wonderful, and wonderfully maintained, as well. The two dining rooms were delightful spaces in which to savor the good food and wine. The living room areas had delicious hot cider in the afternoon, comfy couches, a large fireplace, games, books, videos and puzzles. We took advantage of all of them, while enjoying the vista through the leaded glass windows of snow falling gently on the fir trees outside. This is a wonderful place to stay that exceeded our expectations and was hard to leave.

My husband and I recently stayed at the Manor on Golden Pond for our 5 year wedding anniversary and had a nice time. We were welcomed w/ half a bottle of champagne upon arrival, and the dinner speicals menu congratulated us in there too. The staff was VERY attentive and professional, and made the experience fantastic. The dinner was delicious, and breakfast was great too. While it is true that it is expensive to stay there, we booked via the last minute get away package and saved 25% - so that def. made it worth it. We stayed in the Norfolk room. It was large w/ a deck, wood burning fireplace and huge jacuzzi. The decor was a little dated w/ chinese accents and black carpeting. Not really our style, but the room had many details and touches like, an ample supply of wood & matches, cd/clock radio w/ romantic cd's, big bathrobes & slippers, plenty of the biggest white bath sheets you've ever seen, poland spring bottled water and even a little rubber ducky for the tub! It is by far the nicest place to stay in the Lakes Region of NH (we drove around to check out the others), but if you're paying full price, I can see where you might expect more for your money. And yes, there is a major route separating the manor from the pond, but they do own some lakefront property. There's a boat house, 2 small piers and a little beach. It's VERY quiet up there now in the off season, and alot of places (like the Castle in the Clouds) has shut down. But if you enjoy hiking, a slower pace, a very small town, and a very romantic place that leans toward the pricey side , then you'll be satisfied w/ the Manor. It is definitely the place to go & stay for special occasions in that area of NH.

The hotel is in a great location with fantastic views over the lake and surrounding countryside.

The rooms are well appointed and the common areas both inside and out are very condusive to relaxing.

Best to book either directly, on the web or through a recommended travel agent. Unfortunately we used the Vacations Group in the UK and were unfairly overcharged.

I travel extensively and was appalled at the lack of courtesy and customer service at this property. We stayed for only one night and were given no flexibility. We were told that we could only dine at 7:30. We asked to have some time for a cocktail prior to dinner and were refused. We were told we had to order or we could not have dinner. The food was average - not anything special. We did the tasting menu and were not advised that it was an additional cost. The room was tired and not very pleasant.I could not even call it shabby chic - it is just tired, maybe exhausted.

The staff needs to learn some customer service. They are rude and rushed. The wait staff needs to be trained in politeness and demeanor.

Do not waste your time or money. This is not worth the cost.

The public spaces were old time elegant. Our room was once the master bedroom at the manor when it was a home. It was large and very comfortable. The extra touches in addition to breakfast (coffee in the morning, lemonade and iced tea at midday, English tea at 4, and cookies on our pillows) were wonderful. They special ordered The NY Times for us, and were warm, friendly, and helpful. It was a "just right" slow-paced vacation despite some disappointment with the restaurant.

We really loved the Manor: the service, the food, the room, the grounds, everything was better than what we expected. We certainly recommend this B & B to anyone planning on visiting the lakes region in New Hampshire.
