“Squam Lake Inn: a wonderful experience”

Our six day stay at the Squam Lake Inn was great: charming old inn, friendly, cheerful staff, great food, a well run operation. The owners, Cindy and Rae, have created an atmosphere in which the staff obviously enjoy working together and taking care of the guests. Jim and Gretchen Neel

High color season in New Hampshire is Columbus Day weekend, and Squam Lake Inn provided a beautiful complement to nature. During this busy time, we were greeted with a charming ease that immediately introduced us to this cozy inn. Molly provided friendly and sure guidance to our room (Squam Suite) and information about the Inn Kitchen and Bar amenities. She thoughtfully advised us to consider dinner reservations for what would turn out to be, indeed, a very deservedly busy restaurant (attracting both Inn guests and locals). This kindness and attention to detail was reflected in our encounters with each of the staff members; during our five days' stay, Steve and Kristen's enthusiasm for the dinner menu was borne out in the different entrees we enjoyed, every one unique. (The bean salad was exceptional, and the fish entrees particularly tasty!)
Breakfasts went far beyond expectations in their variety and originality: coddled eggs in a ham "cup," stuffed French toast, and five-grain pancakes with maple syrup were three of the delights. Continuing the Inn's universal hospitality were the pleasant and sincere exchanges and actual conversations with the servers, such as Diane and Aly.
Despite the demands of such a busy time, our encounters with Rae, the owner, were always unrushed. She genuinely wanted to hear about our plans and activities and our daily satisfaction with the Squam Lake Inn experience. Her attention to detail is reflected in the motto, "Everything matters," and we found this in all aspects of our terrific time at the Inn.

Room Tip: Since this is an older Inn, it is smart to check out the rooms on the Inn's Rooms and Rates web...

Our room was cute and very well appointed with a gas fireplace. The baths are newer and are very nice. Our bed was very comfortable. The food was excellent. The complimentary breakfast is great and they have coffee ready 1/2 hour before so you can go down earlier. The staff would always somehow be there when you needed help but almost invisible otherwise. It also was very clean and organized.

Room Tip: I was in a room facing the street at the top of the stairs to the right. Very quiet and comfortable

It was hard to fault our two night stay at Squam Lake Inn. The staff were very friendly and helpful, rooms were beautiful, beds very comfortable, showers powerful, breakfasts were absolutely delicious (French toast bake was a real treat). Home baked evening treats were a lovely touch. We ate dinner one evening in the restaurant and would highly recommend it, the halibut special and hard cider cocktail were delicious. They also have a store in the town with great sandwiches. Take one and walk up to Rattlesnake Mt for great views! Only drawback is no lake views. We were sad to leave this welcoming and cosy inn and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxed or romantic stay. We hope to return one day.

Room Tip: Great mid week discount deals. Eagles Nest is a beautiful room that feels like youre at home, not in...

We took a leaf peaking trip thru New England and since we had never stayed in a B&B or inn before decided to give it a try. I found this place by searching the internet and we were not disappointed in any way! The staff is so friendly, they make you feel like you have known them forever! Melanie waited on us both mornings of our stay and even made sure my husband had their delicious bacon both days!!! She is a delightful young lady. The rooms are a little small but immaculate as is the rest of the inn. the food was delicious (we ate dinner there one night). I highly recommend this inn to anyone traveling in that area...you will not regret it!!!

Room Tip: We stayed in the Lake Winnipesaukee room but I think all of them are equally as nice

My weekend stay at Squam Lake Inn was a surprise gift from my boyfriend and it could not have been a better choice. We are both young professionals working and living in Boston and wanted a cozy weekend away from the city. Neither of us had stayed here before, but we definitely plan to go back. The first thing we noticed when walking in was how warm, charming and homey the inn was, with people sitting next to the fireplace and enjoying tea and snacks. We stayed in the Eagle Nest, where a bottle of chilled prosecco and a cheese, fruit and nuts platter were waiting for us (present from the boyfriend). We had breakfast and dinner at the inn both mornings and nights that we were there and they did not disappoint. We could not have gotten better meals or cocktails anywhere else in town. The wait and bar staff were so friendly and knowledgable. Saturday we spent the day kayaking on Squam Lake and checking out the Squam Natural Science Center...both great activities for any age. One of the many nice things about the Eagle Nest was that there was a bathtub to soak our achy muscles in after kayaking for 4 hours and walking/hiking for 2. I believe it's the only room with a small tv, but it wasn't used much by us. They have a great collection of books and DVDs you can borrow. The rooms are small, but not cramped. Our bathroom had a tub and standing shower (I don't think all of the bathrooms have tubs, but I could be wrong), so it was quite big. The entire inn was immaculate. I can't say enough nice things about the staff. I have zero complaints and can't wait to plan another weekend there. I would recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a relaxing getaway in the country where you can eat a great meal and go to bed early.

The inn was recommended to us by our daughter. My husband was hesitant to stay at a B&B, but my daughter convinced him. He was won over. The Inn is so charming, the staff pleasant and accomodating. Our room was charming, clean and comfortable. The on-site restaurant had some very unique selections and the apricot glazed scallops were outstanding.

Room Tip: We stayed in a deluxe room on the second floor - Chocura - charming and roomy.
